I've been using one for a couple of days now. Here's my observations so far:
1. Beautiful, huge display. Very sharp with great colour. Like others have said, it's exceedingly bright out of the box but a quick adjustment later, and you won't feel like your retinas have been burned into the...
I got an Epson P-2000 for a trip home to Scotland a couple of months ago (I live in Cincinnati). It was absolutely perfect for what I wanted - away from my PC for two weeks, didn't want to carry lots of CF cards, and some way to review the photos that I'd taken. But since I came home, I...
It's time to bid farewell to my 256MB 7800 GTXs since I upgraded to an 8800 GTX last week.
They've been very well looked after, never overclocked. I replaced the stock cooling on both with Arctic Cooling NVSilencer5 rev3 heatsink/fans. Rather than rely on the AC-supplied sticky pads to keep...
Smart move, if you ask me. The film market is becoming a niche "purist" market thanks to digital, and consumer product revenues are guaranteed to plummet as digital uptake continues.
By focusing on digital, they are forcing themselves to innovate both in technology and marketing if they want...
Regardless of the resolution you boot into, the monitor should stretch the display by default.
The Gateway is a 16:10 format, not 16:9.
Out of curiosity, when you boot the PC, does the monitor display a white DVI plug in a blue box with "DVI" beside it as the PC is POSTing?
Wow. Awesome mood on that B&W! It looks like the light source in the middle-ground is hidden by the pole in the foreground. You chose a fantastic angle to get this shot. I love the shadow detail on the cable on the left.
With a heavy heart, I returned my (third) 2185 to BB for the last time.
And came away with a Canon EOS 350D! :D
I'm going to suffer with my 19" Viewsonic CRT (horrible text blurring) for a couple of months, and hope that the hardware issues with the Gateway panel are resolved in that time...
Up until yesterday, I was using a PowerShot G6.
Now I'm using a 350D, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5 - 5.6, EF 50mm f/1.8 and a 52mm circular polarising filter. :D
Oh, and a Speedlite 420EX.
Circuit City - Rebel XT
Regular retail price is $999.99. Currently has $100 off instantly (was $120 when I got it yesterday) and a Canon mail-in rebate of $75 through 1/15/06.
$825 for this at retail post-rebate is a steal. Best Buy were selling it with $50 off at $949.99, and price...
Thing is I've exchanged it twice, so I'm on my third. I've decided that it's going back today and I'll wait for a month or so until the buzzing batch that's currently circulating the Cincinnati area has dried up.
Arm's length or greater, which is 30"+. In full-on slouch-mode, add another 15". So at times I'm almost 4 feet away from the monitor, and I can hear it happily buzzing away, no problem.
I've got brightness at 86, contrast at 38. The balance isn't too bad for text work, but for movies and...
The built-in flash looks pretty hard in places, so I'd highly recommend a Speedlite 420EX external flash if you can save up for it. That gave my indoor shots new life, and did wonders for fill shots.
I think we get the idea that you can't hear the buzz unless you have the corner of the LCD in your ear canal. Keep in mind that manufacturing variances mean that your LCD != my LCD.
Playing games, listening to music, watching movies all drown out the buzzing sound. However, most of my time...
I've had three Gateways now, and each one has suffered from what I consider noticeably audible buzzing. I sit back from the monitor at greater than arm's length. My Stacker case has eight fans running, so it's not exactly whisper-quiet. When working in Windows I hear it over the ambient noise...
I read somewhere that 120 cd/m^2 (or 120 nits) is the equivalent of a 100 watt bulb. Granted, you're probably not staring at a constant brightness, but the thought of staring at a 100w bulb for hours on end doesn't appeal to me.
Since I can't stand the buzzing when I lower the brightness...
My guess is either a hardware problem on the DVI receiver (monitor) end, or the monitor's decoding software is doing a crap job of decoding the video stream.
I spent a while today reading the DVI specification, to see if it would provide any clues, but nothing jumped out.
It's not likely...
It doesn't. I've used a single-link and dual-link cable with no change in banding. I also added 75Hz and saw no improvement in banding with DVI. No problems with VGA, however. I added 75Hz as an available option under VGA, and it seems to be working fine.
Higher resolutions and refresh...
I just fixed one that I found on my 21" Gateway LCD. Didn't even notice the little bugger until ten minutes ago.
I downloaded UDPixel, and placed the 5x5 colour-cycling swatch over the dark pixel. I set the flash interval to 10ms. Then, with a microfiber cloth, I VERY GENTLY made small...
