    Rugged smartphones?

Moto Defy is getting a bit long in the tooth. It's replacement, the Moto Defy+, is scheduled to be released end of September. If you can hold out a bit longer, Samsung Galaxy XCover might be available in 2-3 months...

    Sprint, Virgin Mobile or Verizon?

If bang for your buck is a primary concern, then it would be silly not to consider Virgin Mobile. FYI the $25/month Beyond Talk plan is still available as a "hidden" option when signing up and will be till August 19th so you can get in on the old lower rates for a while longer. Also Virgin...

    Low/Mid Range Gaming Build

Recent history would suggest otherwise: 3/25 - i3-2100 + MSI H61M-E33 $100 weekend deal at MC. Corporate extended the deal for one week (including weekend starting 4/1) due to complaints from customers about low stock. 4/15 - i3-2100 + MSI H61M-P23 $120 weekend deal at MC. 4/29 -...

    Low/Mid Range Gaming Build

Microcenter has been doing their $120 i3-2100 + MSI H61M-P23 combo deal on and off again the past couple of weeks. I think there's a good chance it'll pop up again in a week or two. In your shoes I'd hold off buying the cpu+mobo for as long as possible and try and pounce on that deal next time...

Intel to mass produce 3D transistors for all future CPUs, starting with Ivy Bridge

I love it. Ivy Bridge is gonna be one hell of an upgrade and it's a drop in for current Sandy Bridge setups. Outstanding news for anyone who has or is contemplating building a new SB setup. :D

    Wow! i7 950 is only $179.99!

Intel repeatedly confirms that SNB-E (LGA2011) is the upgrade path for 6 core CPUs. Ivy Bridge will stay at 4 cores.
  7. T

    Wow! i7 950 is only $179.99!

I don't quite understand the logic here. If you go 1155, you can drop in a 22nm Ivy Bridge quad down the line. Based on Intel's previous die shrinks that means approximately 25% increase in max overclock + 10% increase in IPC. So about 37.5% increase in performance by upgrading down the line...

Intel Sandbagging: Cougar Point failures != 5-15% after 3 years???

Incorrect. Sandbagging is intentionally downplaying your true potential to gain an advantage over the competition. There is no advantage in having a defect in your product. Whether the true failure rate is 1% or 90%, it only serves to hurt Intel. Your usage of the term makes absolutely no sense.

Think intel will ever release a "K" version of the i3?

K series is positioned as the top tier in each segment. There might be a slim chance for an i3-2120K. But there's no chance we'll ever see an i3-2100K. Tray price for a 2120 is $138. A 2120K would most likely be $148. At that price I think most people would drop a few more bucks to get the...

My AM2+/AM3 compatible board won't run upcoming six-core processors?

You should be happy about waiting till next year. That's when RD890/SB850 mobos will be released which not only will be guaranteed compatible with Thuban, but also with Bulldozer. Thus guaranteeing a long upgrade path for your purchase. Thuban will in all likelihood maintain DDR2...

    Suggest me a mobo. for i7 860!

You're not going to get much past 3.5Ghz on either if sticking with the retail cooler. If money is that tight, you can get a 1366 adapter bracket for your OCZ Vendetta 2 and reuse it. Search for part# OCZTFORC2V2

    Suggest me a mobo. for i7 860!

Since you live near a Microcenter, the i7-920 D0 + Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R is a superior choice at the same price compared to the i7-860 + Gigabyte P55-UD3R. The 920 D0 overclocks easier, higher, has better featured mobo, better upgrade path, and avoids the whole socket 1156 burn issue...

    i7-920 $199.99 at Microcenter - In-Store Only

Why are you trying to peddle your shit here? That crap belongs in the For Sale/Trade forum. I'm sure you can find someone there who actually believes it costs $32 to ship and insure a CPU (LOOOOOOLLLL). Just because Microcenter doesn't allow CPU returns doesn't mean it's ok to try and unload...

    939 showing its age

With that budget your best bet is waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and jump on some hot deals for some AM3/DDR3 components. Going with AM2+/DDR2 or LGA775/DDR2 setup at this point is like repeating the S939 situation all over again. New CPUs supporting AM2+ will stop being produced in a...

HOT Micro Center deals on AMD CPU's

Not hot at all. The new tray prices are 955 = $175 and 965 = $195 as of 4 days ago. The 550 BE has been discontinued. All 3 of these will be superseded by new C3 stepping processors in about 2 weeks. Definitely would not recommend buying now at these prices. :o

    Which AM3 MoBo?

You can get the GA-MA790XT-UD4P for $105 shipped from ZZF. Save money and avoid the rebate hassle at the same time. This mobo comes with an eSATA bracket in case you didn't realize. I consider the Gigabyte the better choice of the two, and coupled with the lower price, makes it a no brainer...

    Cheap Gaming Build Please

Read here. I don't think it's much of a shock to anyone that a better equipped and better cooled mobo manages to push an overclock slightly higher than the more budget offering. That's the same situation on any platform.

    Cheap Gaming Build Please

    - Much cooler running Northbridge + power circuitry - Better slot layout. No issues with ports being blocked. Esata bracket with power supply connector included - More SATA ports with better RAID options - 790X NB has a bit more headroom to OC and performs slightly better than the 770 - Even...

    Cheap Gaming Build Please

My only suggestion would be to switch the mobo to GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Newegg Link) for $105 shipped. It's a much nicer mobo than the GA-MA770T-UD3P for just a few bucks more.

    $400-500 Budget build help

Since you want to encode video, I would strongly recommend going with a quad core. Lack of L3 cache on Propus has no effect on video encoding which makes it ideal for that purpose. CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H - $199 combo...

    HTPC - The Dream!

In that case there really doesn't have to be any special HTPC consideration in the build. Just look at all the general purpose gaming builds listed here, pick something you like, throw it all in the Antec Fusion Max, and voila you're set ;)
  27. T

    HTPC - The Dream!

If Antec Fusion Max fits your definition of sleek, by all means go for it. It's a much larger case so you'll have plenty more freedom in component selection. If you want to stay mATX and want something sleeker, you'll have to compromise on the vid card. The quietness is irrelevant in this...

    Best Upgrade path for $300-350?

You could also go with this mobo as well. Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H (Newegg Link) If you wanted to make the switch today, that's one stop shopping for you. ;) Sorry if it came off that way but I wasn't trying to imply the PII setup would match the i5-750. Just that it would come reasonably...

    Best Upgrade path for $300-350?

A Core i5-750 upgrade will run you around $400 after you figure in tax. Add in another $40 for a HS if you want to overclock. You can get by spending less than half that much by staying with AMD: Phenom II X4 805 - $80 Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P - $110 You can reuse your RAM and HS...

Ati vs. Nvidia for the ~$100 video card sector

Well I couldn't resist anymore and bit on the MSI 4830 (non OC version) myself since Newegg decided to throw in Rainbow 6 for free. Got it yesterday and have to say I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far. Aside from the part number printed on the label, this is the OC version. Mine...

Ati vs. Nvidia for the ~$100 video card sector

Get the MSI 4830. See the review here as to reasons why. It's the same as the OC version except you're not paying MSI an extra $10 to clock it 10Mhz higher :p

    Is the VisionTek HD3650 > MSI X800 ?

Newegg open box Asus P5Q Pro $69.99

Why would I get an open box mobo when for about the same price I can purchase a brand new equally nice mobo with all included accessories, full warranty, generous return policy, and is guaranteed not to be somebody's test bench beater? LOL... :p

Newegg open box Asus P5Q Pro $69.99

Nope. Board is $70 + $8 shipping. I/O shield is $10 + $5 shipping. That brings total up to $93. For that much money I can kick in another $10 or so and get a quality brand new mobo instead of some refurb/open box garbage

    Powercolor HD 4830 512MB $79.99 AR @newegg

Wow great price. This seems far more impressive than the Sapphire 4830 that's been on sale recently. All solid caps, copper heatsinks, HDMI output, and a decently quiet fan. Maybe we'll see a promo code for free shipping pop up to sweeten the deal :)
