Did all the Rift adjustments already...
What do you think for a close to $200 setup:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz $158

MSI 760GM-P33 AM3 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard...
My heart says GPU because its easier.
But my brains say CPU.
Rift runs 60fps everywhere. Sometimes higher. In cities with lots of players around that number drops to 25 to 30. MMORPGs are notorious for being CPU intensive in cities. Google "Dalaran FPS" sometime regarding WoW. WoW had...
Such conflicting advice here. I appreciate the effort but please remember to look at my situation or read my posts again. I do not need awesome super end Crysis 2 graphics. I just want to run online CPU INTENSIVE games better.
I am frustrated because the open box GTX 460 Superclocked was $150...
Thanks Ghys i agree with you. I am going to hold off for now and concentrate on a new cpu and board.
Do you think I should wait for the Bulldozer's? I have an AM3 board and I heard they will work no with them. Or do I go all Intel at this point?
Also, I have kind of had it with ATI lately. I have been using ATi cards and had all of the classic ones going back to the 9800 days. I have never been a fan of the Catalyst Control Center, their cards always run hotter than Nvidia cards, and I always feel their drivers are not up to par. Plus...
Here is my power supply. A Corsair 650 with 52A on the 12+, It has two seperate PCI-E plugs.

If I can get the 460 GTX for $150 wouldn't that be a good deal for me?
I am THIS close to purchasing the GTX 460 Superclock. The performance it gives is very good. Plus I will have DX11.

Should I do this? It makes sense, then when Bulldozer comes out I...
1. I run 1680 x 1050 because i have a 22' monitor. That is fine for me.
2. I do know Rift is poorly optimised
3. I did some small overlocking already from 2.8. I think 3.2 or 3.3 should be easy.
4. i do not have the right MB to unlock the 4th core
thanks for your help guys!
Specs:
Phenom x 3 720
4gb Ram
Radeon 4870 512mb
I mostly play cpu intensive online games like Rift. No need for top end for Crysis 2, etc.
I did the low resolution test in Rift and I am CPU bound, however I am still tempted to look at the Geforce 550 Ti. I have no issues going over to...
Wow. I left a tube of Arctic Silver in my pants. My wife did a load of my laundry and BAM! That sticky stuff is all over my clothes in big spots. Has anyone spilled this stuff on their clothes before? Any ideas? Should I Spray and Wash and keep running this load over and over again?
Help! All...
One last thing, even though I have Windows 7 64 bit on my gaming rig, I was thinking about XP for him. Maybe its a no brainer because he likes some old school "legacy" games and emulators, plus I don't move to Windows 7 without 4gb of memory.
Windows 7 vs XP gaming performance isn't THAT big...
+12V@24A is more than fine for a 600W power supply running a video card (4670) that uses minimal power. Plus the customers reviews were good. People were powering higher end systems with it.
Thanks you saved my bacon.
I was able to call them and cancel the order for the 4670 1GB DDR2 and instead get the 4670 512mb DD3 for the same price.
I totally fell for the “noob” trick of 1g of memory vs 512. That is so embarrassing. I knew better 10 years ago!
Anyways, for $70...
I am working on a mid-range build for my son. He is 12 years old and enjoys World of Warcraft. He does play some other games but it is mostly that.
Current System
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
2 GB Ram
ATI x1650Pro Video Card
40GB IDE hard drive (yuck)
In Dalaran, he was having issues, lucky if he could...
I understand AGP vs PCI-E very well :)
Here is the board I am buying him:

By the way I also just purchased an ATI HD 4670 video card. I am just trying to figure out the power connectors with my power supply vs this card...
Hi, I have a budget system for my son with a power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817162017that does not have PCI-E connectors. I just bought an ATI 4670 PCI-E video card.
Questions....
1. Does the ATi 3850 require a PCI-E connector?
2. Do all PCI-E video cards...
I have two sticks of this memory available. I was going to use this memory for a system I am building for my son but I just bought him an Athlon XP 5600 (AM2 socket) and correct me if I am wrong, this memory would not work with that CPU?
Anyhow, it is brand new from a new HP system pull. It has...
My 12 year old son has a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz system and WoW is running very slowly. Limited budget here. Maybe dust off that old A64 x2 4000, 5000, 5600 or whatever and send it to me for shipping only? Perhaps a trade from below?
Here is what I have to toss into the deal to mix and match:
2gb (2...
Yeah lots of good advice here but the more I look into it the Pentium 4 is brutal for today's needs. I should sell my DD3 ram and get an Athlon 64 x2 4xxx or 5xxx series cpu. From what I read its not even close Especially now that WoW supports dual core processors. Plus it is very CPU intensive...
If I go your route and only update the video card is there any processors better than the Pentium 4 for my board? I assume not, without changing the motherboard. I think it is a 478.
Let me turn the tables and ask you this. I am giving myself a $175 budget.
Would it be worth it to build a cheap AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ system together? I have some extra memory laying around. Basically, here is what I have to work with:
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
1gb old memory lol
1650pro...
OMG I can't read.
But here is the thing. Given the choice of an x1950Pro for $65 or a 3850 for $20 or so more, which destroys it in benches, why would I get the x1950pro?
I have my son setup in his room to play WoW on an aging Pentium 4 3.0Ghz system with Windows XP and an awful ATI x1650Pro video card. I hated this card from day one. It feels so underpowered. With the graphics turned up even Elwynn Forest gets choppy in the rain.
I do know that whatever I get...
I am upgrading my sons computer I just set up in his room. I have him with a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz processor with 2gb of ram on WIndows XP. He had a Geforce 5900 Ultra video card in there (that series was brutal) and with all the settings at minimum at 1280 x 1024 he gets around 40fps in World of...
Geforce 4600
One of the best cards ever made.
Some would argue the Geforce 4200 as you could overclock it like crazy.
Voodoo 3 16 was huge.
ATI 9800 was a beast.
