If anything, Intel and motherboard makers are the victims of the memory suppliers failing to uphold their end of the bargain.
Do you realize how many specialized and unique parts a motherboard maker has to acquire to produce a high end board? And yet those are all readily available for...
Well, OK... how about sturdy desk arms with >25 lbs capacity? The NEC's are 4 inches thick, which makes them "heavier" since most of these arms are weighted with 1.5-2.0 inch screens...
No, a wall mount wouldn't work here. Two issues:
First, I'm in a basement - hey great, concrete walls right? No, alas - they're insulated with a couple inches of foam, and then there's just cheap thin wood paneling on top. So basically there's no way to get a solid mount - even if you use...
Well, I think I've made a big mistake purchasing two Ergotron LXs for use with my NEC LCD24WUXi monitors. Oh, they mounted fine. I can get my monitors exactly where I want them.
But they JIGGLE.
I have a solid, heavy desk. But just typing or mousing sets up something in these arms that...
I never said I expected 0 RMAs... just that I was tired of 95% RMAs in the past. Burn me once, shame on you... burn me six times, shame on me, right? Some brands have better reputations for producing quality, problem-free products than others. My experience with ASUS is that they *were* fast...
I think I mentioned in my first post, I've had bad luck with them, and I've been using them since the Pentium-90 days. My main issues have been after 1-3 years, they either got flakey or completely died. I have a shelf of old dead motherboards to attest to this.
The last ASUS I used was a...
Earlier this year I bought a pair of Hitachi 2TB drives for my WHS system (adding to the 2 500gb Seagate drives it came with). So far so good - no issues. I'm duly impressed, especially for the price I got them for.
For my main system, however, I'm going through a similar decision trying to...
Except I would like the advanced frills that are typically only available on the advanced boards, good performance (even at stock), and very high stability. I figure if a board is designed to be stable with a huge overclock, it should be utterly rock solid with no or a mild overclock. I tend to...
First, I should preface by saying I am NOT a big overclocker. I typically do a minor overclock and sure I like to game, but primarily this will be a work system (which includes lots of video editing). My priorirties are stability, performance and features.
Until now I've sworn by Intel...
Well, as far as I can tell what it does is re-adjust the "bad" sections and block out the bright sections of the screen to match the brightness of the bad sections. But in order to do this and maintain the same brightness level, it has to increase the backlight level. Combined the two reduce...
Something's been bugging me about one of the 2490's I bought. Basically, it's white level and brightness is VERY inconsistant. It seemed much "colder" on the edges than the middle. I have two monitors, one with the SpectraView bundle, so I was able to check the white level characteristics of...
I've got them configured and calibrated now... the stock stands seems sturdy enough, but when I read about the "quick release lever" to remove the panel from the arm I started to wonder about how well they were attached. At any rate I *do* plan on getting proper monitor arms in the future (so I...
Well, I just received a pair of LCD2490WUXi's today... a regular and a -SV (figured I didn't need two calibrators). December 08 build date. Just have them off to the side right now for analysis.
I'm a bit disappointed to see a couple [dim] stuck subpixels on both units, but they're off to the...
The old model is still available - but barely. I know one of their major distributors in Canada is already claiming it's discontinued (and won't be convinced otherwise), but another still seems happy to order them - I'm hoping they actually come in for me.
I think the problem for refurbished monitors is: why was it returned? Was it a subjective panel issue (dead pixels, uneven backlight etc.)? Did the service tech agree that it warranted panel replacement - in which case you'll be fine - or did they think it was "fine" and sent it back out again?
Hmm, I've been reading the recent 2690 thread and had a question - is there any conclusive reason (beyond the bundled calibrator) to buy the SpectraView version over the "plain" version in North America? Ie. is there any difference in warranty or panel quality? I'm rather paranoid about getting...
I think the term "sharpness" needs clarification. The 24 and 26" models have the same resolution - 1920x1200. This means that the pixels will be *smaller* on the 24" than the 26" model. Due to the way Windows works, this also means everything else will also be smaller, including text.
Now...
Hmm, local distributor just got 12 of the original model in stock... I'm seriously tempted.
What's NEC's policy on dead/stuck pixels on these? I inquired using the online chat on their site last week and got the standard canned response about "5 subpixels" and what not - do they really hold...
OK, I must be particularly dense tonight... because I just don't see what the issue is with the equipment you currently have. If you only have one PC with dual outputs, then only that PC will be making use of both monitors. So just hook it up directly to that monitor...
...But if only one of your systems has dual outputs, then why do you need to even switch that monitor? Just leave it hooked up directly and switch the other. When you upgrade your other systems to dual outputs, then you can worry about finding a dual switcher... :-)
LOL, I love your diagnosis of TN! :-)
I have an older S-IPS monitor right now (Philips 230WP7NS). Frankly if I turn the lights off in the room and display a solid black screen, the "glow" is pretty much everywhere at every angle. It's not quite as bad looking straight on, but otherwise the...
Actually I didn't post the question in two threads; I posted it solely in the 2490WUXI2 thread but albovin quoted and responded to it in this thread... so my response to him was naturally posted here.
The A-TW filter is reportedly nice for off-angle viewing, but what if you don't really need...
However, that's what the specs say: contrast goes from 800:1 to 1000:1, and sRGB coverage from 93.5% to 96.7%.
Of course you drop the polarizer, and lose some brightness...
I've been doing a lot of looking through the "post your setup" thread, but it's not always easy to tell from that where the primary working position is.
Currently I only have a single monitor, but can see real benefits to two... not sure I'd want to get into 3 yet since I'd need another video...
I'm hoping your post wasn't indended to be quite as insulting as it came off, so I'll forgive you that...
...But I've been reading here long enough to become disappointed with every single monitor that I've researched. The monitor I had before this was the FW900 (which I loved so much) - and...
Speaking of which, does anyone know what the input lag is on this Philips 230W I'm using now? I could never really find much information on it.
It's distressing that there is no decent "jack of all trades" LCD... everything's an "or" situation - this OR that...
After not being happy with my choices a few months ago, I'm back looking again for a monitor. Criteria are:
24" plus
IPS
NORMAL color gamut
1920x1200
cost no objective
What are my options? I had lusted after the NEC 2690WUXI/2, but it's wide gamut. It looks like the best one at this...
Yeah, the wide gamet thing has got me a little concerned... it seems that non-profile-aware applications would display everything very very wrong. I do a ton of different stuff with this PC... I'm sure my photo editing and video editing software will work, but I have a lot of other graphic...
When my FW900 died some years ago, I ended up making an emergency purchase of a Philips 230W 23" LCD. Generally, I've been pleased. It has a couple of unnoticable stuck pixels (my second unit - the first was much worse), but my biggest issue with it is I want to be able to play Blu-rays and it's...
Hmm, since I'm in Canada and so far no reports of noise in North America... I just may have to give this a shot. But if there's noise SOMEONE in US/Canada tech support is going to be hearing about it! :-)
Has there been any consensus on that buzzing/chirping sound that some users have reported? I have extremely sensitive hearing and something like that would absolutely drive me nuts. My old CRT used to get a soft buzz in the back corner after it had been on a while and it really irritated me. And...
Exactly... since they're so subjective I think the tests are only of real use when done by the same person on multiple monitors. Different people, different subjective limits. :-)
What is more scientific and I'd love someone to do is the CRT vs LCD lag test - where you set the displays to...
I really don't know. After seeing his results I downloaded the software and ran the tests on my 23" Philips - but they're almost all so subjective that I don't know how it would be possible to get reliable results without some reference point. For example, in the text legibility test I was able...
