Are there any true 8-bit displays out there for <$500?
I had the Viewsonic VX2025WM many years ago and things sure have changed. I use an NEC EA231WMi now, but the banding with 6-bit panels is much more noticeable.
If that's not possible, what are the top two or three 24" displays everyone is...
Is forcing these sorts of refresh rates when the monitor does not support them safe? I'd want 72hz personally since that is 24x3 and would playback most content I watch smoothly.
You should really buy this sort of thing locally. Safer to pick-up and no shipping charge. I bought mine here...

It was $325 when I picked it up, now it's down to $310!
Hate to reply to an old post, but this is absolutely true information. I am a photographer myself and knew about the uniformity issues going into buying this. The RESULT of the uniformity issues on the left and right sides is a slight red/pink tint, not the other way around, there are no tinting...
Well I only maybe went through the first 10 and last 10 pages. It's convincing, that's why I'm waiting for the real reviews to come out. It's not even available at newegg.ca yet for me! :o
For me it's one of those items where there are many, many, many things it could excel at and I hope the...
I'm basically in those boat of users looking at the HP ZR24w or NEC EA231WMi. I'm on a VX2025WM which I've had for 4-5 years and want a noticeable upgrade. Anybody coming from the same ViewSonic?
Anyway, it's amazing how much hype and word-of-mouth users of this forum have started for the HP...
Hey I noticed that if I adjust the RGB like you had it it looks noticeably less "true" to white. This could be due to me not using the ICC. I checked a couple scenes in 2001 A Space Odyssey where the spacecraft is obviously supposed to be white.
For the record I am using a BFG 6600 GT OC card and all the NVIDIA scaling options work flawlessly. It seems like the 7900 series in general has caused the majority of scaling problems. I'd put off buying anything in the 7900 series for now and wait until the new generation of NVIDIA cards come...
I wouldn't worry about height adjustment. Nobody complained about CRTs not having it :p
IMO everyone should spring for a 16.7M model. I do own the VX2025WM too!
Is there a way to create desktop icons to change my monitor scaling?
I go between NVIDIA fixed aspect ratio and do not scale often and it's annoying loading the control panel every time I need to switch.
Thanks ;)
I got mine at PCCanada ;) for $390 + tax. I knew Canada Computers and Infonec were selling for around $360 at the time, but I like the staff at PCCanada: they always give me excellent support and their knowledge is above average. Oh right, and you can collect points to use against a larger...
Would any of the owners like to post their settings? Just curious :o
Monitor:
Brightness 50, Contrast 67
NVIDIA Color Correction:
I kept brightness and contrast at 100% like default and tweaked it on my monitor instead. One step in brightness or contrast feels like 3-4 on the monitor...
I don't think a lot of people know the VX2025WM is a true 8-bit monitor using P-MVA panel.
http://prad.de/en/monitore/review-viewsonic-vx2025wm.html
The VX2025WM is the most excellent overall monitor you can find near its price :)
Excellent for games and movies, no visual ghosting (or...
I just use the control panel if I need to scale. You can choose fixed-aspect (that's 1:1 right?), let nvidia do scaling, let your monitor do scaling, do not scale. Using BFG 6600 GT OC.
I better share my settings. This was a bugger as many have mentioned to get it looking its best.
On the monitor itself:
Brightness 50
Contrast: 66
NVIDIA Color Correction:
Digital Vibrance: 9% (in the control panel)
Brightness 100%
Contrast 100%
Gamma 0.86
Eizo has an...
Thanks MJC
sRGB is 6500k at 2.2 gamma right? What's the difference besides that?
sRGB looks great for games and movies, but it's too bright for desktop use (I switch back to 6500k).
Few questions!
1) Can you please post your brightness and contrast settings (on the monitor itself) Mine are brightness 45, contrast 75
2) Why doesn't auto adjust or any manual adjustment work with DVI input?
3) Which scaling do you prefer in the NVIDIA panel? I currently have it set to...
Woo I got mine today!!!! :D :)
Something I find interesting on mine is that it is spec'd at TCO'03 on the box whilst the ViewSonic website states TCO'99
I haven't hooked it up yet. I had to carry the bloody thing 2km because I took the train to get to the nearest GO station then...
Bump =p
I have a BFG 6600 GT OC AGP.......I was thinking of getting this monitor also. Can I run a game at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 using its native resolution? Like black bars on the sides so it still displays optimal quality. No stretching...you guys know what I mean. ;)

You're probably looking at another year until the technology is mature and at an affordable price. I'm hyped too, but there's no way I am buying an early model. :)
