I just reworked the setup in my sig (Abit IP35 Pro and Zalman cnps7700-cu) and noticed that I could actually lift the Zalman off the surface of the CPU just by tugging on it, and I wasn't even pulling very hard. I have it set to ramp up according to the CPU temp, and the CPU stays around 45C but...
A single 8800GT plays TF2 maxed out at 1920x1080 (still CPU limited due to lack of proper multithreading support), I haven't installed anything else since I got my 42" LCD (actually, that's a lie... Starcraft runs just fine in case you were wondering). As for future proofing, you have to figure...
That looks pretty good for the most part, but this PSU supports higher max amperage on all rails except 5v and I think I'd trust OCZ more than Thermaltake (and it's cheaper after rebates):

I'm currently running a 12" Kenwood car sub in a box with a Kenwood mono amp: KAC-8103D (discontinued; this is the new one). Of course, you'll want an amplifier that closely matches your subwoofer's specs.
The important thing here is the power supply; like the others have said, computer...
Next time you're at a LAN party, you'll have to carry around a gigantic adjustable wrench and smack everyone who walks by, occasionally hitting the computer too.
I have a 5.1 setup by running my card's analog outputs directly into amplifiers and out through speakers -- no special receivers or anything. I currently use my motherboard's onboard sound but will be upgrading to a good sound card soon (what I'm picking will be determined later, or possibly by...
I have a custom surround setup (currently quadraphonic, will be 5.1 once I get a center speaker and finish the sub enclosure, but that's irrelevant). I want to know what kinds of mics people use for surround setups.
I currently use an old headset, draping the headband around the back of my...
I'm a huge fan of ASUS, having built both Socket A and 939 systems using their boards (A7N8X and A8N32-SLI), but they just don't currently have a board with all the features I want and at a good price point for Socket 775. Just like your link suggests, I went with the IP35 Pro this time around...
If this means Ubuntu will get better than one minute per battery percentage on my laptop, I'm all for it. That's about the only reason I'm still running Vista on it at this point, especially since I've seen Source-engine games running on Linux.
Glad to see some people here favoring Cowons; I've had my D2 for around 6 months and love it. I pretty much have to purposefully not charge it for its battery to die.
The CPU is technically working all the time, just at varying rates. Whether or not it's possible to add an LED that would only light at a certain percentage of CPU load, I'm not sure. It would have to be software-driven with probably a custom serial-port or similar interface for the hardware...
I have a system nearly identical to Banditfromhell (check the sig) and get flawless framerates in TF2, albeit at 1280x1024. Something's wrong with your framerates, and drivers seem the most likely culprit.
I had a friend whose eVGA 8800GT overheated during UT3. It didn't suddenly die, it would just lock up solid for about 30 seconds at a time every few minutes. Don't check the temperature probe; open the case and touch the top of the card just above the GPU. His was so hot you couldn't keep...
The point is that the heat is already there and is actually wasted energy; since the process is far less than 100% efficient, you would be using more power to drive the speakers than you would convert from the vibrations.
I've also wondered what happened to that idea; I heard about it a few months back back and then haven't heard anything about that technology since then. Of course, another cool idea would be using the heat to power a Sterling engine to spin a fan, but I don't know enough about them to even know...
If you're not gaming, the 8600 would be a poor choice because it'll drain the battery more quickly (whether or not it's a significant amount, I don't know). Also, if a number pad is one of the major things holding you back, I would encourage you to go with a USB or even Bluetooth (if you like...
Sorry about that, no offense meant though it did kind of read that way; I corrected you more for the benefit of others who might be confused by that. Heck, we all know the Sansas would be better if Samsung made them :D No hard feelings?:(
One thing that I think needs to be taken into...
I have the 8400M G, which is a step below the GS, and I even have to turn down some settings in CS:S to get smooth framerates. If I had had the option to pay $100 for an 8600M, I would have done it in a heartbeat. The 8400M is not a gaming card; it's an Aero card.
EDIT: Are you sure you want...
I usually try not to correct people like this, but it's the Sandisk Sansa. Being a previous owner of an e280, I felt the need to set it right. I also cringed a bit at the thought of the Sansa, but that's a story for another day.
Anyway, everyone knows that you can rip music off CDs with...
Painting the inside of a case flat black is about one of the best-looking "easy" "mods" you can do; it's amazing the difference it makes in appearance.
Ooh, I just noticed the hanging hard drives... that's a nice touch, good way to hide cables. Pretty creative IMO.
Cool, sounds like an old-school repair trick, much like blowing in the cartridge. It sounds like whatever method of accelerometer it uses just got jammed and had to be nudged loose.
I had a 500 watt X-Connect, found out just how terrible they are and moved to a 600 watt Silverstone. My system didn't need more than 500 watts, but I was actually able to reach a higher stable overclock with the Silverstone (no other changes to the system) because the voltage was more stable...
All 7800GTs should be compatible, but I'd look for a second (or third) opinion (fact) on that. Plus, you should look for benchmarks to make sure SLi actually gives you a performance increase at whatever resolution you're running.
EDIT: Also, about a year and a half ago I bought a 7900GT for...
I thought the whole name "Athlon" wasn't going to be used anymore... Am I just way wrong? I kinda hope I was wrong, I like the name Athlon for some reason.
And, as far as CPU's relevancy to gaming: I'm running a single-core Athlon 64 3800+ at stock 2.4GHz and the only game it hurts me on too...
You have to know what you want and have research done already when you walk into any B&M store or you're just screwed. I've had a CC employee lie to me about the specs of a car speaker while I was looking at the specs page over his shoulder! In his defense, I guess he could have been...
Are you two making references to Dan Brown's book? I can't think of the name of that one right now.
EDIT: Deception Point. It came to me.
EDIT again: Now that I think of it, Deception Point was concerned with chondrules, not chondrites... Any geologists care to discuss the differences?
