I believe the motherboards have to specifically support AMD Overdrive. I have heard there are some 7xx series boards that don't even support AOD, so I would hazard a guess that an older board will not.

There's no reason to have more than one BE edition Phenom. IMO, BE means the chip is a mutli-unlocked cherry-picked CPU from that model class. The only time they should offer another BE edition is if something within the CPU is different... for example, a 5000+ BE has 2x512KB cache on...
