After I posted this thread, I did some slight research online. Leaning towards just going for the CCNA, since I have no work experience yet. I was considering buying one of those labs that are available on eBay, but I'm not sure if those are not necessary or a rip off. What would you all...
My FiOS ONT is mounted on the outside of the house near the electric meter, and the battery backup unit is mounted in the basement near where the cat6 cable comes into our home. I would just have them mount the ONT outside your house and then run the network cable to where ever you will have...
I'm looking to go for my CCNA certification this summer and possibly CCNP as well. I was looking to study on my own and then take the exam online or at a test center. I have an old Cisco 1841 router that I was given to me that still works, but I do not have any Cisco switches. Should I pickup...
I believe I understand how subnets work just not entirely sure I have a grasp on supernets.
Basically, if I divide these departments into subnets of various sizes, I just need to determine an IP address and subnet mask that can represent all of the subnets as one?
Have a question regarding supernets and subnets. Not quite sure I understand how these work, so I was hoping someone could clarify the concepts. Say I need to design a network to support around 300 devices with these devices being in multiple departments within a company. Since there are more...
Here's an example of the problem:
Posting a new craigslist ad. There's a button that says "Add Images." When I click on that nothing happens. Possibly a minute or so later, I'll finally see the upload (OPEN) window show up.
This is happening on any site in Google Chrome that allows me to...
I'm not really sure what the issue is but it must be something simple. When using Chrome if I click on a button on a webpage, such as Facebook nothing happens. It is not website specific either. This does not happen in Internet Explorer. Maybe after 2 minutes the upload window will finally...
May be out of your budget, but I've worked with HP A-5120 48 port POE switches. They're a L3 switch. Very nice switch with a good GUI and easy CLI

Okay cool. I will probably be sending you a PM about all of this soon, since you deal with this kind of installation often.
Thanks for the info!
I'm going to look into getting a single server to run a few VMs, as well as 4 hour on-site warranty. Thanks guys!
Will be using Patterson Eaglesoft. Should I use sata or sas for this small of an office? Regardless, it will be a Raid 10 OBR. Should I do a VM just for DNS, DHCP, DC, AD...
I will possibly be setting up a small network for a family member this summer. Right now I am in the planning stage of determining the best setup for this network. The office is a small dental practice. The network will be done in a two part process. The first part will be implementing the...
Good to know, I will have to look into them. If I can get familiar with this 1841, I may buy a 1921 for the network I'm planning to install for a family member's office this summer :D
Thanks!
Question on when to send the "break" to the router. Should I do it as soon as I turn the router on or what? The tutorial you posted says that some start up commands will show, but none show on my terminal window.
Thanks!!
How would I wipe the config?
I read over the guide; however, I am having issues with the break command during the power cycle. Doesn't seem to be working, as after a while the log-in prompt comes up again.
I should have been more specific. I'm in hyperterminal, but I am prompted for a username and password. Are there specific commands or another way to do a hard reset?
