The viewing angle being slightly narrower was just speculation, not actually specified as fact, although I did list it as a con which probably caused the misunderstanding so I will remove that. Also I'll update mentioning that it is with older S-IPS panels.
Thanks for the information about the...
Regarding H-IPS technology, there was a comparison between H-IPS and S-IPS (both LG's technologies) done on a Japanese site which I translated here:
http://www.monitorsrc.com/news/the-lg-h-ips-panel/
If it means anything, I use both Linux (ubuntu) and Windows XP on various computers and monitors in my house and I've always found the fonts blurry on Windows (even with cleartune XP). It's one reason of out many why I leave Windows for gaming only.
Brightness: 11
Contrast: 10
Mode: Standard
I find this is perfect for me for web browsing/work (a dimly light room). Bright enough for daytime use and I don't have to turn it down at night time. Black detail gets crushed at this level though, so for graphics work I have to bump the settings...
I've put up a section on the w2207 on Monitor Source:
http://www.monitorsrc.com/22/hp-w2207-22-review/
Still have a few issues/topics to cover such as ghosting, calibration and text rendering, but that's related to the vertical viewing angle mostly.
If you have noisy movement/dithering in your black/dark areas then you have an "A" panel.
If you move around window and notice blocky artifacts you may have a "C" panel. I'm not too sure about this, as only two or three people described it.
You can see what people said about their "C" panels...
I've summarised all the issues with this monitor on my Samsung 226BW wiki at:
http://www.monitorsrc.com/22/samsung-226bw-review/
Boy, this the most controversial monitor ever.
There was another solution to the "stuck Gateway logo", something to do with selecting the language for the monitor:
http://www.monitorsrc.com/issues/gateway-fpd2485w-review-issues/#logos
Sorry, I haven't heard of that issue DBRASCO. It's not related to the above issue is it?
No, the FP241WZ is not worth it, especially for what you are doing (a little bit of everything)
The FP241WZ has a A-MVA panel rather than a P-MVA panel in the FP241W. There's been no comparison of these monitors so who knows how good it is. (some people have confirmed this, I would like to test...
I don't know about you, but I've never had 480p DVD's look good other than on my small 17". On my 32" Toshiba LCD TV and my FP241WJ they don't look it, naturally. No amount of upscaling's gonna fix it. My suggestion is to sit further back from the screen, or try watching the movie in a different...
LG makes S-IPS panels, and their newer H-IPS makes some improvements on the S-IPS. If I remember correctly improving about improving purplish or red hues at angles or something, I'll have to find the article. There's also another improvement, but I can"t recall at this time...
These monitors...
How is this poll helpful? You're comparing a cheaper general purpose LCD against a more expensive one aimed at photographers and the like.
You should be comparing monitors at a similar level, such as BenQ FP241W, Dell 2407WFP A04 and such.
Anyway helping you out, voted LG because it's cheaper.
I agree a glossy plastic sheet put on an anti-glare screen is pointless. I did it for a while on my LG laptop (harsh anti-glare coating) and my smooth but slightly anti-glared desktop monitor, but there was basically no difference I could see.
I don't know about companies doing it for you, but...
This was one of my most worrying concerns, turns out its not an issue at all with the benq. If you switch to standard mode, the brightness and contrast can be turned out to very comfortable levels. (I heard the lowest point on this monitor is about 60-80cd/m2). My vaio laptop screen feels...
The light coming from the monitor interacts with the coating as it passes through and yes good observation, the coating does not move, but your head does. This issue is not limited to 6-bit TN dithering panels.
Won't matter what input you use, it's the monitor panel surface and the anti-glare coating used causing you to see this effect. Many, many monitors have the same issue.
I think I just had a blackout 5 hours after receiving the monitor....
The screen went blank for about a second, then on again for a second, 3 times consequtively....
Is this the blackout problem?
Got my FP241WJ today! It's the FP241W but with an A-MVA panel and updated firmware. Viewing angles are just awesome. Got it for about $640 USD (but in Japan)
The monitor surface is silky smooth and it picks up some glare from an angle, as you can see in the screenshots.
I was worried...
The FP241VW just went on sale in Japan, and you can turn overscan off or on.
That and the WJ and WZ models have been confirmed to have A-MVA panels, with the help of this site. (W model having the P-MVA)
Regardless of the companies handling of the firmware issue, this has just moved to the top...
Well your going from a S-PVA panel to a S-IPS panel, along with any other improvements specifically made to the panel for the 3007wfp-hc... naturally the difference is going to be astounding..
Better? It's pretty close...If you do console gaming it's better, but for just pc use/gaming, LG is better because of better default colors, and not being as bright as the fp241wz and the cost.
I haven't read anything about this monitor, but wouldn't the HN208L6 be the latest and most desired panel?
According to this panel revision chart:
http://pc.usy.jp/wiki/128.html#a81277bd
Um.... He's probably talking about Australian dollars..
I can't stand the mail service in Australia. Probably depends on the service, but I don't ever remember receiving mail after 5-6 pm, and certainly not on the weekends. It's a killer if its a long weekend.
Here in Japan, mail delivery...
I wouldn't be so sure about them using the same panel as of yet. We have had two confirmations of A-MVA panel in the FP241WZ....
From all I've read, the WZ perfect motion technology seems to be a failure. I haven't heard of anyone using it or saying it's any good apart from reducing the...
My impression from Jim Robbins review is that the LG is better suited if you're not going to connect to consoles or a tv:
- It has better blacks/contrast and colours out of the box
- Not as bright as the FP241WZ (thank god!)
- less ghosting than the FP241WZ
Seems to have some scaling and...
This monitor has an A-MVA panel and is coming out on the 1st June and it looks like it's gonna be hugely superior to the fp241w, and there's a little bit about the A-MVA panel:
http://miyahan.com/me/report/computer/070125_WUXGA_LCD/MDT241WG.html
So basically the A-MVA panel should
- be more...
http://miyahan.com/me/report/computer/070125_WUXGA_LCD/index2.html#Review_FP241W
The FP241W has the P-MVA panel in Japan, and the updated WJ model may have the A-MVA panel.
According to this article, The WJ (Japan only) and WV have a slicker, smoother panel surface (less bumpier) than the...
Have you tried wearing sunglasses to see if it's a brightness issue?
Eyestrain after 5 to 10 minutes is pretty serious problem, maybe it's another problem besides the computer.
As has been mentioned refresh rates are irrelevant on lcds, this cannot be the cause.
He's probably referring specifically to the "washed out blacks" displayed by the PS3 connected to the 2707wfp. Other monitors don't have this problem with the PS3 as far as I know.

"It is really not a quality monitor for Photoshop work"
"LCD's were NOT directly made for photoshop/image work."
"No LCD's are good for photoshop work."
I use Photoshop for many things (one for a living) and lcds are more than fine for me.
