I also have a 4870. 6GB ram and an E7200 @ 3.8
Everything on low I probably average 35fps so I rarely even play the game anymore. Its just how this game runs on our systems

fixed link. slow as fuck DL
edit: heres a quick mirror (none so far for XP)...
My 2005FPW just bit the dust so I'm looking to get a new monitor... price range is $160-190 with a max resolution of 1680x1050 or preferably 1920x1200. post or send a pm! thanks :)
keep the 260 and overclock your CPU to 3.4-3.6 if youre comfortable. Those two games are somewhat CPU dependant, especially L4D2, being a Source engine game. borderlands is UT3 based (afaik) which also should not tax a 260 much.
what res do you play at? that might help explain poor performance...
sometimes inadequate power from a PSU can result in lower scores. though i doubt that is the case since the 8600gt stock vs OCed power draw wouldnt be much different. whats your PSU info?
try running the tests with only your GPU and then again with only your vRAM overclocked and post the...
how much lower fps do benchmarks and games receive after the OC compared to before?
is it possible to run the games with at least 1280x1024, or perhaps something higher? if you can, see what kind of results you get. even if its not smooth, it will put more load on the gpu and might show you...
Ahh. 50c is still alright. nothing to worry about at all.
also, 3.4 without a voltage bump is very nice for your AMD. cpu voltage is the only thing you need to raise for higher clocks at this point, try it in increments of 0.05v if your mobo allows that type of control. use the program CPU-Z...
they lowered the price of the 4850 to $99 because of this problem. much better deal if you ask me. might not OC as well, but plenty faster out of the box.
3850 has more features, plus you can opt for the 512mb. Better image quality and the power usage and temperature cant be beat. the 512 version can easily overclock to 3870 speeds.
well if those 3dmark numbers are true...
wow. thats VERY impressive! now to wait and see how nvidias dual-gpu 9800 performs. Its got 2 boards and looks a lot worse compared to the 3870 x2, so if i had to buy one of these now, it would be the 3870
ive got a 3850 with the same type of heatsink/pcb as your 3870. It is very simple... theres a bracket on the back with 4 spring loaded screws. simply take those out with a small screwdriver, and there should be a few more larger screws located on the edges of the pcb. Youll spot them.
unplug...
youre right. enthusiasts arent that numerous either, but Im sure there are enough AGP users to justify a profit, and ATi is the only one selling to this niche market.. so they probably make good money from it.
