Yes, I have one of the original 'batch' - as you can see in my former post, I got the card at the end of December. So I'm running with the original specs, and have had nothing but excellent performance and no crashes or issues in both 2D and the most current 3D games.
I had some of those low-profile Enzotech ramsinks, but I too have decided not to install them as heat is not a problem with this card. So it's kind of pointless, a waste of money, and one more thing to be a potential problem. I've had the card since 12/27, running it every day with my GPU / Mem...
Odd that it doesn't address the issue people were reporting with the RAM.
Basically, it's the same fan, but a different heatsink... which may drop the GPU temp a couple degrees, but that was never a problem. I mean, mine runs 'hot' because I have a relatively low airflow case, and it's still...
The problem, if it is the RAM, isn't with just this card. It's with all 8800GT's that are using the Qimonda 10ns RAM.
For shits, do an internet search with: "[your brand here] 8800GT problems" - you'll find a thread for just about every other mfr.'s card as well.
For instance, Xman got a 'good'...
What I'm saying is you can't pull the Occam card here because it's not like everybody has a bad card. It's the RAM for you, and for others it could be a Vista issue when trying to get rid of old drivers unsuccessfully, or it could be a GPU issue for others (I think Vlad had that). It could be...
But it's not the RAM for me, since I have the same RAM as you and don't have any problems with anything. And BTW, I didn't just run ATiTool.
I've been running Crysis, Bioshock, etc., with all settings maxed, for hours on end, with zero crashes, artifacts, etc., and I have the Qimonda 10ns RAM...
Maybe it's the 169.21's that I'm using that are working out nicely?
I ran the ATiTool test to demonstrate that I wasn't getting any of the artifacts that people were complaining of seeing in their cards. However, with the GPU resetting... that's a toughie. I'm getting 3-4 hours straight of...
Hopefully someone who is having a problem can report on this, as I just finished up another 2 hour Bioshock funfest - again with no problems. Not to mention I replayed and refinished Crysis last week / weekend on this card as well with zero incidents / issues. I'm currently running the 169.21...
Ah... I just took a quick internet tour and XFX, BFG, Galaxy, etc. all seem to have some thread somewhere talking about the same problems people are describing here with the Gigabyte. From what I've seen, either you've got one that can handle the factory OC, or you don't and have to scale it...
I wish I knew what the potential problem with this card is because I haven't encountered one yet and would like to know if I'm "at risk". There may be some commonality with mobos, PSU 12v rail amps, CPU types, etc. among the people having issues and it would be nice to know what those factors...
Looking at the pictures Vlad took above, the RAM is Qimonda's HYB18H512321BF-10.
According to the Qimonda website, it seems to be rated for 1.0Ghz (2000Mhz effective).
Unless I'm reading this wrong?:

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks so!
And about nVidia and 1280x800... when I got my 8800GT I noticed that. So I took a look around and found out that you can use Rivatuner to basically force your card to accept a new setting - in my case, 1280x800 @ 60Hz. Now, that is a selectable option...
Nope - that's a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS. I have no idea what the skinny port is for (it's been 3 years since I put it in), but the big black cable goes to the breakout box up front.
And thanks about the case clutter comment - makes me feel better ;)
I just sometimes wish I had a more modern...
I actually don't like the pixelated sharpness of my hp w2207's native resolution and prefer to run it at 1280x800 for everything! I have the monitor performing the scaling, and it looks as good and clear as my old LaCie 19" (Electron 19blue IV) when it was new... actually, it looks better ...
Just played the full version of Bioshock that I got from Steam this morning... played for an hour... all settings as high as they can go. No problems. Still running the Gigabyte card completely stock - no under or overclocking of anything. RAM temps, according to Everest (questionable) hit...
I ran Crysis for 3-4 hours straight last week (I had time off ;))... no issues.
I ran UT3 for about 1-2 hours straight last week... no issues.
I ran the Bioshock demo last night for about 30-40 minutes (played through it a couple times and drooled at the artwork)... no issues.
I'm am not running...
I have an Opteron 185 with 2 gigs of RAM. I'm not sure how close that is spec-wise to a 170, but I'm sure there are plenty of folks who think the any 939 chip is "insufficient".
Regardless, I got my 8800GT and can play Crysis with every setting on "Very High" (edit Cvars files - I'm still...
Hopefully someone into overclocking can help you out with that one!
I'm not truly [H]... I'm not really into the overclocking scene ()... more into quiet & stable performance (not like they're necessarily mutually exclusive).
As far as I know, this card has a dynamic clock thing going on, so it can change it's clocks and power consumption according to 3D load. So, if you're running a highly demanding scene in a game, the GPU will be clocked at maximum speed, while running cut-scenes or any lower-GPU intensive scene...
It's a cupholder. It's nice to have when I need it.
Seriously though, I lost my other rear port covers (god knows where I put 'em), but digging in my spare crap box I found that one... it has that 'arm' that extends, maybe to mount a side fan? Either way, it covered the port, so I used it. It...
Just as an update for those interested...
This is re: the Gigabyte 8800 blah blah HP card at 700/950...
My original load temp posted was noted after running Crysis for an hour or 3DMark06. Temps were checked with Everest. I just grabbed ATiTool for the heck of it and ran that artifact test...
Got mine today too ;)
Idle: 39 (my ambient case temp even before installing the card)
Load: 52
Those are the exact same idle and load temps as my X850XT had!
So, temps are good, noise is virtually non-existant, and the thing has been running stable for a few hours now, with 3DMark06...
That's very uncool how they don't tell you which one you're getting...
For some, space and noise are concerns... not just cooling. The 'new' redesign appears to have the cooler enclosure extending beyond the length of the card, and those side-blower fans are always noisier, esp. when enclosed...
FWIW, the review of this card on HardwareZone states that "All the NVIDIA cards here were tested using ForceWare 169.02 drivers". So, not the Gigabyte branded drivers... and apparently there were no problems with that.
You are correct! I edited that about 5 minutes before you posted this ;)
Also, new pic up comparing stock / Galaxy / Gigabyte for anyone who has space concerns.
That Galaxy is SEXY.
I can tell by the pics that the Galaxy is not shorter than the Gigabyte, but it appears to be shorter than stock!:
Specs do say that it has the 3-phase power, and it definitely runs cooler than stock. Does it run cooler than the Gigabyte? Don't know. The Palit runs 20 degrees hotter under...
Whew... you're right. It appears they've finally sold out of the 512MB version, and so the first this I saw this morning was the same looking card, but for $50 less than I paid for my 512!!
I've edited my post accordingly ;) - Thanks!
ClubIT has the 256MB version of this card for $219 now if anyone is interested, and they're out of stock on the 512MB version.
Meanwhile, Newegg = $279, MWave = $269 for the 512MB version.
Thanks for the endorsement of NWN2... I've been looking for something new to play! I finally uninstalled...
MWave also has them listed "in stock" now for $269...

Just an FYI on the off chance that ClubIT happens to sell out in the next couple days.

I'm almost positive that it's two slots, and absolutely sure that it's not three. My x850xt with the same cooler only takes up 2 slots. Wish I had more definitive info for ya. dimensions are listed as 91(L) x 126.4(W) x 30(H)mm if that helps.
I KNOW. It's not huge, but 15 bucks is still 15...
