I'm in the market for a new laptop and wondering if I should invest in a i5 6300+ that support intel Vpro. Which allows remote wipe and lock of device incase. This laptop will be personal use and may store some client information. How difficult is to set up intel amt? Can it be run...
I did that, I even used ssh into exsi to format drive before adding the drive. Other drives I add, doesn't have problem. I think some how esxi still think it has this datastore or vcentre? I might just wipe the boot usb, when I have time... or dont use this drive on the system. thanks for the help.
I'm getting the following error when I try to add a wd 250 gb drive to datastores. I had a power issues today. System lost power for a second because someone accidentally pull the plug. After reboot, my wd 250gb was drop out of my datastores while my ssd m4 64gb was fine and running. I try...

So to install my 10 x 2tb from OI (i should do export) and install them to Omnios (i should do import) and it should be accessible ? without export will the pool get corrupted?
I had a standalone openindiana with nappit for years but it was getting buggy after each update. So I decided to move another solution.
I first try freenas again still on freebsd 9 (10 should be release real soon):
pro: - lots of new features, (so many supported plugins now owncloud too)...
Oh nice, I'm thinking of making a copy of the data since I have space before moving physical hard drive over. Zfs send command the fastest way?
update:
running zfs send on OI to OmniOS now (don't know when it will finish)
zfs snapshot -r tank/data@fullbackup
zfs send -R tank/data@fullbackup...
what's the best way to migrate data from Openindiana to OmniOS. Can thesystem see each other's zfs system since they're one same network? Do I need additional packages? thanks
or just buy some refurbish hitachi 2tb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD2U46667&cm_re=hitatchi_2tb-_-22-145-616-_-Product
use them as media storage later on.

thanks thegrinch will definitely look into it. I'm also looking for NVR and it seems some NVR models have build in POE. Some other members recommend me NVR with POE and be done with it, but I find the HP switch pays for itself after few years, notthing beats lifetime warranty ! Will let you know...
I'm looking for a HP 24 port switch. I have a HP procurve 1810v2 24 port already, really enjoy HP lifetime warranty, when my v1 die, they send a new switch right away! love the web interface as I dont know how to CLI. Would like to get a switch that has webinterface :D

just wondering can you set recordsize for each folder or would I need to create another pool? So I can increase efficiency. Store media files on larger recordsize and small files on 128 recordsize?
thanks
revaluation ram to hdd ratio 1000:1
As I'm in the process of updating my zfs. I have been running zfs on 16GB ram for my 10x2TB and it has been great for my needs. I will be adding 10 x 5TB drives and moving the nas to 24 bay supermicro chassis. With 10x5TB, using 1000:1 rule, i should have...
thanks @_Gea and HammerSandwich
Also another question is how does Seagate SMR drive like the 5TB and 8TB perform in zfs condition?
From articles I read some say its bad for RAID because of the drive would need to rewrite to lines on the drive just to makes make changes on one line. (I can...
I have been running opensolaris and nappit for few years now. raidz2 10*2TB, excellent reliability and easy maintenances. :D
I recently purchase two supermicro 846 24 bay chassis and plan to purchase the 24 SAS2-846EL1 backplanes with SAS expander support.
With blackfriday and cyber...
OK tested the system again found something interesting. new files I dump onto zfs drive is really fast and when I transfer it back, it's really fast.
ONLY the old files that was in the drive (from freenas) are super slow
zpool version is 5000 ???
will this increase transfer speed from external computers to nappit in ESXI or just to VM to VM inside ESXI
I'm moving my zraid1 5x2TB from freenas VM to omniOS VM but transfer speed is like starts from 100 KB/s to 6 MB/s with large files from omniOS vm to windows 7. I did a clean install with...
