NEC 2490WUXi - The Full Story

Hi friends, How are your 2490WUXIs are doing? Mine is 8 years old and still exceptional. It's probably the best investment I have ever made. An amazing product. Time flies, especially in LCD industry. A few generations of monitors have passed away. But this one - I still don't know...

ASUS PB278Q 1440p IPS (PLS Panel)

Very helpful review (except for 1080 vs 1440 :confused: picture). It looks like PLS is still where it was at the time of the first PLS test review: color space mismatch with non-existent sRGB emulation (read: no real colors).

NEC monitors worth the extra money?

The whole market depends on what LCD panel manufacturers have to offer at the moment. Keeping that limitation in mind, I can say that NEC unlike any other brand is able to convert the best of the available LCD technology into a real consumer product - the monitor. Top NEC models are...

Another attempt to test the new model. http://www.playwares.com/xe/index.php?mid=maingame&document_srl=24375174 Some color space measurements (yes, to be taken with a grain of salt) look not so good.

    AMVA vs SPVA difference.

sRGB S-PVA discontinued long long ago. The last one I tested was 24" Gateway. The last S-PVAs were wide gamut. I don't count anything below 24". Viewing angles in c-PVA are not worse than in S-PVA.

EIZO ColorEdge Series with LED Backlight

It has never been an issue because there is no difference. Usually NEC delivers the same product for a lower price or a better product for the same price.

    AMVA vs SPVA difference.

All *VA monitors of all generations regardless any additional letters have color shift (and black crush as its form). This is a hardware (Vertically Aligned liquid crystal display) issue and cannot be corrected. Newer versions of *VA technology, as was mentioned, have been improved over old...

    Dell U2713HM

The first review is out (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm) and I see promising news. Two major flaws of the older 2711 seem to be addressed: they got rid of wide gamut and probably crystalline effect.:)

    Panel homogeneity issue on Eizo?!

Eizo has "premium" prices, not quality. Have you heard about "color tint"? Guess what monitor introduced this term into common use? Yes. Eizo on WG PVA. The only effective quality control is our eyes when we buy a monitor.

    NEC MultiSync 27" VS 30"

Both SV models are the best monitors available as far as color quality is concerned. Both are excellent universal entertainment monitors for home use. Which one of the two? It's up to you but you need to realize that 30" vs 27" is not just 7 or... lines more. It's a different league. It's...

    Bought TFT central z2440 review

Absolutely. Yes, it's confusing (at least). To help clarify this confusion please pay attention to how exactly input lag and response time are visibly manifested in the screen. What would be your descriptions? Mr. Smith will appreciate it.

Thank you D65_D50, but I need to make something very clear. Although my reviews have been published earlier than others, I am not competing with major review sites and I wish all of them much of success. I am not in business, I am not paid. It's my hobby. Major review sites are doing a...

To pay or not to pay? Reading review sites for money.

A couple of internet review sites have started to charge money for "early preview" of their reviews. Prad.de has been doing it for a while. TFTCentral has recently followed them. Can internet reviews be trusted to the point of paying for them? Facts first. Let's see. Just one example...

Is an Eizo the right monitor for me?

You seem to read just a half of my posts.:) It's not a matter of my personal preference. My only preference is image quality. I am mentioning exact facts about monitors. You don't have to mention review sites. I wrote: If not ... (cover essential flaws of the monitors being reviewed)...

Is an Eizo the right monitor for me?

Did those "good" reviews tell you about their flaws (color shift, viewing angles, WG artefacts, irregular pixes structure)? If not, how can they be good? They are ads. "Junk" is a red flag. You are buying inferior product for superior price. No, top IPS models from NEC (including 2490WUXi2)...

Is an Eizo the right monitor for me?

It's so unfortunate that you are oversensitive to AG coating because this way you miss best monitors suitable for all purpose including photographic quality requirement. VA Eizos have somewhat smoother AG coating than most IPS monitors (except NEC 2490WUXi and glossy IPS). However, they do...

    Any VA recommendations?

Just to make it clear: one should not look for good viewing angles in VA technology. However it can fit many needs even with "VA viewing angles". Unfortunately there are no "recommended" monitors on VA now. They are all compromises. c-PVA has not grown over 1920x1080. You can see one...

    Samsung F2380MX vs S24A850DW and S27A850DS for Reading/Coding?

IPS Monitors - What to Choose From?

Yes, your requirements are quite restrictive: sRGB IPS for photos, no LED, not bright, must be from the list of locally available... Samsung F2380MX vs S24A850DW and S27A850DS for Reading/Coding?

I have tested both. S24A850DW (see review) would cause the least eye strain for reading text and coding. F2380 (see review) is not as good. It's smaller (1920x1080 is inconvenient for anything but games and movies), it's not flicker free, AG coating is more visible. Also PVA technology...

Samsung SA850 on PLS 24" - Test and Review (what you have been waiting for)

Yes, the Samsung SA850 is better for text work than the Dell 2408. The problem is that you may have to change the monitor a couple of times until you get a unit without backlight uniformity issues.

    24"|30"|24" vs 24"|24"|24" vs 24"|27"|24"

27" IPS has super fine dot pitch (-) matte finish with crystalline effect (-) wide color gamut (-) resolution won't fit other monitors in your composition (-) 2410 is worthless. 2412 is a budget all-rounder (almost) but again it's not the best choice for text work.
