How to use computer monitor as live feed for digital camera?

Hello, I have the Canon Elph 300 digital camera and I want to use my computer monitor as a live display so I can easily preview self portraits, etc Is there a software that will allow me to use the mini-USB to computer USB cable (that comes with my digital camera) so I can use the camera like...

Graphics card malfunction causing BIOS spelling errors?!

I can use the 1920x1080 res but it's not properly placed on the screen. The task bar and app top bars are off screen. Very odd problem. I had to downres to around 1000 x 800 res to fit things properly on screen. Weird stuff... I've never heard about this bumpgate card deal. What's it...

Graphics card malfunction causing BIOS spelling errors?!

I pulled the CMOS battery out for an entire night, with the computer unplugged as well. I also pulled out the CMOS jumper (there's no 3rd pin tho. Just 2) Don't have another mobo I'm pretty sure it's not the video card problem because my BRAND new 8800GT succumbed in under 2 minutes.... Hmm...

Graphics card malfunction causing BIOS spelling errors?!

It was fucked, then I installed the new 8800GT and everything worked great. Until I set the res to 1920 x 1080....then it reverted back to that weirdness as you can see in the screenshots posted... So I believe there is still hope.

Graphics card malfunction causing BIOS spelling errors?!

Ok, so here's the story: 1) I have owned my EVGA 8800GT for 2 years 2) 2 weeks ago, I wake up and turn on my computer to find my video card stopped working. I get these weird spelling errors when I go into BIOS and the res is 640 x 480 in 16 bit color 3) Got a 250GTS from the office and it...

How to install Windows 7 upgrade on new hard drive?

I bought the Windows 7 Student Upgraded and upgraded my Windows XP Pro But what if my hard drive were to die. I installed the Windows XP Pro about 5 years ago and have long lost the original CD. My hard drive is really old as well and I fear it might die soon. When I buy a brand new hard...

Re-inserting video card solves all problem. Why?

dang, I don't have another "regular" monitor to test it out on. On a similar note, re-inserting parts like power cables, memory, etc, all seem to fix 80% of computer problems. What is the reason? Re-inserting them gets rid of the "bad electricity?"

Re-inserting video card solves all problem. Why?

Whenever my computer restarts, my monitor (46" 1080p Sceptre TV w/ DVI to HDMI converter) loses its signal to the computer. I would need to 1) Shut down computer 2) Take out video card (8800GT) 3) Re-insert again 4) Boot up computer And it works fine. This is getting reaaaaaaaally...

24" 1920x1080 LCD monitor vs 32" 1080p LCD TV for gaming and internet.

In a way, a large screen size is the same as a smaller screen size because having a larger screen requires you sitting farther back, thus making it the same size to your eye as sitting closer to a smaller screen size! Do you understand at what I'm getting at? :D

24" 1920x1080 LCD monitor vs 32" 1080p LCD TV for gaming and internet.

I just moved to a new apartment and bought the PS3 slim -- yet, I don't even have a monitor yet! So this new monitor purchase will be for serious gaming as well as hardcore computer/internet use with my laptop So which is the better option? (And it doesn't have to be a 32" TV. It can be around...

Best method to transport your desktop

I got a job offer and I would need to fly out there (Chicago to Texas) I have a mid tower and was wondering what is the best way to transport that bad boy over there? 1) I heard bad things about airport luggage and how they handle your suitcases. And is carry-on for a mid-tower even...

Giant TV as main monitor question...

Ok. Does anyone here use a huge TV as their main monitor? Do you just sit farther back? Does it get dizzying? *EDIT: @n3g471v3 d3c1b3l, thanks for updating*

Giant TV as main monitor question...

I want to use a 50"+ LCD monitor or TV as my main computer monitor for web browsing, Photoshop, movies, and some gaming I was wondering...since the 50"+ monitors are most likely 1080p (1920x1080) and the much smaller 24" monitors are also the same pixel count...won't the 50"+ monitors look...

    Dou you prefer tool-less cases?

Seems like most people dislike the tool-less for its "plastic flimsiness" What if all tool-less cases had latches and locks made from solid metal (like LanCool), would you prefer tool-less over tool'ed?

    Dou you prefer tool-less cases?

And what is your reasoning For me, I love tool-less. Convenient, fast, and makes you more more likely to upgrade. The only con I can see is that it's more likely for people to steal your parts but that's pretty unlikely to start with.

    Hairline dead pixels (pic inside)

Hmm, the "hair" isn't near the edge. It's more in the center so I don't know how a hair can travel that far in... I sprayed an LCD cleaning fluid on it and it appears to go right over the "hair" So it's not a scratch.
  27. M

    Hairline dead pixels (pic inside)

Ok Well, is it a dead or stuck pixel? I went into Photoshop and drew a 1px pure-black line and that's much darker than the "dead pixels"

    Hairline dead pixels (pic inside)

I transported my monitor from Ohio to Chicago in my car and when I turned it on, I found out this hairline of dead pixels has appeared! Is this fixable? How did this happen? I taped a piece of cardboard over the front to prevent such a thing!

Awesome. Thanks for the great help and links! I'll be sure to check em out Yeah, I agree with what you're saying about the customer reviews. I use to shop on NewEgg by clicking on "top sellers" then clicking "best rating" and only looking at stuff with 5 stars... But still, I don't think...

    2.1 vs 5.1 for music

Is the only advantage of 2.1 is its convenience in setup and transport? What other advantages does 2.1 have over 5.1 (besides being cheaper) or is 5.1 the way to go? Thanks

How do you physically secure / lockdown your desktop from theft?

How do you physically secure / lockdown your desktop from theft?

Actually, I live in a house and my desktop is near a first floor window. I'm concerned about a break in. The thief will see the desktop and just pick it up and leave. He won't have time or the knowledge to open it up. And the Lian Li metal is pretty thick. Plus I still have the expansion...

    Best software to copy/backup OS?

What's the best software to copy my entire OS (currently Win 7 RC) and back it up on my external hard drive? And let's say it was Vista, would I need to re-activate it? If not, then what's stopping people from making copies upon copies on different hard drives and giving away free OS's? Thanks

How do you physically secure / lockdown your desktop from theft?

What's the best method? Buy one of those adhesives? I personally can't trust them. The thief can just grab the computer and use its weight to swing free from the adhesive. I go pretty DIY. A thick bike chain through the expansion slots, secured with a master lock, anchored to my computer desk...
