I bought the RTX 2070 instead of the 2080. I play at 1080/60 (40" LED). If someone ever makes a 40"+ 120hz+ gsync monitor i'll be first in line. I want a large screen with low DPI.
I know even the 2070 is overkill. I could have saved $100 on a new GTX 1080 but YOLO- I was already way under...
Realized I never posted the final build. Went with the RTX 2070 instead of 2080. Probably not getting an external sound card- onboard is working OK so far.
Is that a known problem? Mine takes a long time to POST, maybe 10 seconds before the display shows any signs of life. I thought it was a quirk of this board.
Thanks, that's great news. THe upgraded audio is the main reason I went with this model/tier board, hoping i wouldn't need a pcie sound card anymore. The Sound Blaster software/EQ and I/O panel were most of the reason I kept buying them, but my case intentionally doesn't have an external bay for...
My headphones are just a $100 or $150 polk gaming headset so AMP not needed, but I do have a z5500 5.1 system. Can external DACs do 5.1? If i plug my headset in will most driver software automatically switch the speaker output to headphones, then switch back to 5.1 when I unplug them? i really...
the 2080 is a parametric filter place holder. Waiting for 2070 and BFV ray tracing reviews before making a decision between 2070 and 1080 or holding out for future 2060. I game at 1080p because low dpi = EZMOAD first person shooters. Currently using a low latency Vizio TV because my ideal...
Might as well post the whole build:

Sound card depends on the onboard sound. Giving the "premium" onboard a shot, first. Haven't used onboard in 15 years.
GFX card depends on RTX 2070 performance and pricing and BFV. Hoping ray tracing...
rest of the parts arrive next week. Will use stock cooler and evaluate. went this this ram: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232182

Hello- just bought a 2600X + Asus Strix x470-f and have 2 questions.
Is it worth upgrading the cooler to an AiO?
what's a good 16GB memory kit for the price? (preferably without RGB)
Will a better cooler noticeably improve gaming performance (via XFR)?
I've been worried about underperforming...
How does it have 11GB VRAM? That number doesn't make any sense at all to me. Is it 12GB but with 1GB not traditionally addressable a la GTX970 's .5 GB?
Excited for the 2070 but def waiting for the [H] reviews. We already heard from leaks that the new gen would be priced higher- maybe even with these exact figures. $500 is a lot for the 70-series card, but every generation or so is priced higher than the previous. My 970 cost $330... maybe 350...
I use dual 25.5" Acer 1440p displays at work. I love large screens with large resolutions. And I would use one at home as well if not for my penchant for FPS games. Any other type of content...productivity, movies, or any other kind of game (RTS/RPG/MMO) a relatively higher DPI is great. But not...
low pixel density is actually beneficial in FPS games. Professional/competitive players will lower their resolution on a large display to achieve low densities to make enemies (and heads) appear larger on the screen. For all other games, and general PC use, higher density is better for more real...
I dont think that's correct... A higher resolution will display more of the game on the screen while making objects on the screen appear smaller. Think of zooming out when taking a picture. The more you zoom out the more of the scene you can see, but the smaller the objects in the lens will...
I'd never thought of lowering FoV to partially compensate for higher rez or smaller display. It wouldnt be a perfect solution by any means but going down from 105 to 85 might be significant.
It's my understanding that the more inputs a display has the more input lag there is. Or something like that. A gaming monitor will not be without trade-offs (cost counts as a trade-off, too)
I know most people love high DPI displays, but for FPS games i prefer lower DPI than most. It's the reason I played CS @ 800x600 and 1024x768 on a 21" CRT back in the day and why I opted for a 32" 1080p LCDTV over a 30" 2560x1600 LCD monitor 5 years ago. A higher DPI will always be helpful to me...
normally i'd agree with you, but out of the "hundreds" of games out there, many people that bought GTA will be playing ONLY, or almost only, GTA for the foreseeable future. It's basically an MMO.
Also ordered an Asus Strix 970 last night. Will be here tomorrow. Thanks PRIME! The evga cards...
GTA V will use as much VRAM as you got. Im only running 1080p and im over 2050MB with just FXAA (instead of MSAA), low pop variety, and all "advanced" settings off. it's easy to hit 3.5GB even at 1080p.
Currently i'm rocking a 7870XT, which after an easy OC = a 7950, and am getting vram limited in gta v at 1080p. The GPU is fast enough but i have mental problems when I cant max out a game. Looking to upgrade to 4GB for GTA V and get some extra oomph for The Witcher 3. Ive no preference AMD v...

I might go back to 9789 or even W7. 9926 is not ready to be a daily driver. I had little, but expected, problem with 9789 as my main and only OS.
My X-Fi soundcard is not working under 9926. It worked fine, albeit with some hiccups installing properly, in 9879. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, as well as PAX drivers and the ones that auto-install from Windows Update. Windows shows sound activity in Sound devices, but...
ALso, is it me or does this no-name brand mouse look eerily like the M65: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2J219N7307
The chassis looks identical, and it's even got the same aluminum on the front bottom. It appears to be a cheaper mouse in every other way, with no sniper...
how long have u had it? any durability issues? Also, has anyone played with the new RAT Tournament Edition? It's a Rat 7 with an updated laser and fully plastic (instead of aluminum) chassis for reduced weight. I like the idea of the new, hopefully improved, laser, but it's soooo light. I like...
ok so I couldn't have participated in a more relevant thread...my g9x's right mouse button is now fubar'ed. it was working mostly ok when I first posted in this thread, but now is worthless. I've been following suggestions here but haven't been impressed with anything yet.
what's the overall...
been checking out the suggestions posted....WOW mouse pads are massive now! WAAAAAY toooo big (thats what she said). the func 1030's size is all i need. i think i'ma go with the new func 1030, the 1030v2 L: http://www.func.net/en/products/surface-1030-2/ from newegg...
my funcpad 1030 is also starting to show its age. I've loved it since day one. I also like the rough side, but it's got a few chips in it so i've been using the smooth.
What's the best replacement for the 1030 rough side?
g9x. I had a g9 for 3 years before one of the buttons started misbehaving. called logitech and they replaced it with the g9x under warranty. Logitech has replaced no less than 3 devices for me under their phenomenal warranty and will always be my first choice assuming they have what I want...
