AnyDVD HD > rip to iso with speedmenu enabled, save directly to media server. Simple and elegant. 30 - 60 mins depending on the size of the BD. Playback works with any software player or Popcorn Hour, etc.
There are 2 pass through holes on the left side for the molex connectors and pass through holes in middle between the far right and middle fan. The new sas backplanes have the mini sas connectors in the middle of the backplane.
No, WHS won't do that. You'll have to use a program like Drive Balancer to move the data from the full drives to the new drives.
Copy some files from another computer to the WHS. The new files should land on the new empty drives.
It's pretty easy to do. Just plug an external esata drive into the esata port on the 8300 and follow the on screen prompts to format the drive. The new drive will be added to the available storage space. Keep in mind that the drive will not be readable on anything except for the particular 8300...
In WHS v1, the OS drive is partitioned during installation with a 20GB C: partition for the OS and a D: partition for the storage pool. The D: partition will be the size of whatever space is left over after the 20GB OS partition. However, with v1 & PP3, no data will be placed on the D: partition...
No! That is very old information. All of my WHS installations are installed to the smallest supported HDD as I don't want any storage pool data on my WHS OS drive.
I don't know. Mine were purchased and replaced earlier this year (February - March). I actually have 4 of these in my WHS now and I'm about to add 2 more. They run very quiet and about 5 - 7 deg. F cooler than the WD Green or Seagate LP drives.
I had this exact same problem with two of the 2TB Samsung F3EG drives. I spoke with Samsung about the problem and they RMA'd and replaced the drives. I've not had the problem with the replacement drives.
I have two of these connected to one of my computers and am very happy with them. Be aware though, that the color calibration out of the box is horrible. Both of mine were very blue. It took me awhile to get the color calibrated correctly, but I finally used the monitor calibration tool built...
Actually, this is what Bulat Shelepov, Test Lead (Drive Extender), Windows Home and Small Business Server Team had to say on the MS forums about the issue.

Could you elaborate on the "create a partition on the drive, so that a new install doesn't create that 100MB system partition" statement? What kind/size of partition should be created?
I have 20-2TB green drives (a mix of Seagate, WD and Samsung) in my WHS. I don't have any problems streaming BDs to a Popcorn Hour A-110 even with DE running.
Now you tell me! I wish you would have told me that 2 years ago when I upgraded my EX470 to 2 Gig RAM and dual core AMD 3800 CPU. :p
Of course it's upgradeable. Who cares if it's supported?
I went with the SSD for the system drive, 1) because I could and 2) I wanted a small, fast, quiet, cool, and reliable drive.
I'm still unsure about the Samsung drives as of now. They run cooler than both the Seagate LP drives and the WD Green drives. I had to RMA one because it kept dropping...
Provantage has them in stock. http://www.provantage.com/supermicro-aoc-saslp-mv8~7SUP918N.htm
You will need sff-8087 to 4 sata forward breakout cables to go from the card to the sata ports on the 4020's backplanes.
Make sure the SFF-8087 to 4-SATA cables you're using are the "forward breakout" cables. If you by chance got ahold of "reverse breakout" cables then your disks won't show up.
