The only thing that would need break in time is the TIM (thermal compound). Depending on which kind you have it will require a different amount of time. For example, Shin-Etsu X23 takes a couple days to reach it's maximum performance.

If you buy a SSD now you're going to regret not waiting to pair it with a SATA III board. As a SSD will be the only thing that will benefit from SATA III.
