    New Prodigy Build

As I said in my last post, in my case it was most likely a lemon part rather than being a cooling issue. However, "SFF means airflow and cooling become paramount concerns" this part is just physics. If you are dissipating 650 watts, its going to be easier (ALL ELSE EQUAL) to do that in a 36...

    New Prodigy Build

RAID0 up in this mug: Technically true, case size doesn't matter for stability, however, SFF means airflow and cooling become paramount concerns. If one part on the motherboard isn't getting adequate cooling, that might cause stability issues. What got me last time was a lemon(s)...

    New Prodigy Build

this system was originally inside of a fractal design node 304, with a corsair h80i, but it never ran "right." intermittent crashes, boot loops, etc. I RMA'd basically all the parts and couldn't debug, so I rebuilt it in a prodigy M with air cooling... runs like a champ. I'll trade a few...

    New Prodigy Build

honestly, I really detest the fact that the front mounted ports and buttons are on a side panel... disconnecting wires to remove side panels isn't cool. The Fractal Node 304 case was better designed in that respect.

    New Prodigy Build

Even w/ a short cable kit, fitting stuff around other stuff (the oversized cooler and full length GPU aren't making it easy) ain't easy. I need to find a local geek with small hands and OCD to clean it up...

BenQ GW2765HT 27" or Dell 3008WFP for Gaming?

Hi, I just bought a BenQ GW2765HT 27" 2560x1440 monitor to replace an old 24" 1080p monitor on my backup machine, but now I have two good monitors, the BenQ and an old Dell 30" 2560x1600 3008WFP. Which of these two monitors would be best for gaming? It'll be connected to an R9-290X. I'm...

for an itx gaming machine: Asrock Z87E-ITX or Asus Z87I-DELUXE? I've always built with either Gigabyte or Asus... never trusted Asrock before but willing to be convinced.

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

Adding the "case circulation fan" was pretty key to keeping the temp of the 7750 nice and cool under load. It also has the side effect of helping cool whatever other parts on the mobo w/o a heat block stay cool.

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

Not 100% sure, but I do recall it being a tight fit. My machine has two drives. I recall essentially wedging one of the connectors in. If that's true, I think a third SATA is off limits. If you don't need discrete graphics you could put in a PCIe card with internal SATA headers but you know...

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

I think ultimately the solution will be integrated GPU's powerful enough to play games on. The 7750 has a 55W TDP... actively cooling it in a case without fans is hard. Passively cooling it in a case without fans is going to be VERY hard, even if you could re-route the heat to the exterior...

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

Basically any time you have two metal surfaces that need to conduct heat, you need a lot of grease. So between the interfaces of CPU->aluminum block->Heat pipes->Chassis blocks, you need grease. PS as an update to this thread, I installed a small 12V case fan that I affixed to the inside of...

    Help Needed with Streacom FC8

That's my exact setup. Which CPU, RAM, PicoPSU, AC Adapter, etc are you using? I found it helpful to build my machine on a desk to make sure it worked, THEN I installed it in my FC8. After you build the FC8, it's sort of a pain to remove any defective parts.

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

The 160W PicoPSU was great, but the 192W AC adapter used a Mini-DIN connector that was incompatible with my FC8 Evo. I could have drilled it out and used it anyway, but since I was so far under the actual rating of the AC Adapter, it made way more sense to return the 192W and buy a 120W adapter...

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

Although I'm not really worried about damaging the card, 83 C under load is enough to make the little fan on the 7750 work pretty hard. That makes it the loudest component in the system. Adding a very small case fan to pull hot air out of the case would radically lower the temperature inside the...

Streacom FC8 Evo HTPC/Gaming Build: The 110W Wonder

My last experience with a small form factor build was with an Antec Aria Micro-ATX case back in 2004. The thing worked quite right... power problems, heat problems, etc. When I built my last desktop in 2010, I just wanted a lot of power for the money, so I went with the traditional Core...

So I aligned the drives, and formatted them with fdisk. Created the raid 5 array. It seemed like it worked, but sdb1 fell out of the array... I see no problems, so i'm recreating the RAID update---- I created the raid with mdadm but mdadm automatically sets up a hot spare. when i used...
