Secure erase to get performance back; i've had to do that previously on older drives with major firmware revisions that fixed performance issues.
Only change since initial install was a CPU swap from 12700k to 14900k; all other hardware is the same including external peripherals.
Yep, nightly...
Wonder if you smart storage folks could lend me a hand with some SSD speed degradation issues. Lots of info below.
I'm using 2 PCI-E 4.0 m.2 NVMe drives in my gaming rig (specs in sig):
- C: 2TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus
- D: 4TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus
On the 2TB drive only, the speeds are...
With the OC settings above, my temps in all benches hover around 78C at max, with the exception of AVX workloads (like Cinebench 23) where temps can touch 95C or so briefly. I have no negative offset for AVX workloads; they run at full clock speed.
Here's what you can look forward to with a...
Hey Wolverine2349 - I leave HT on and all P and E cores enabled for best performance. Kind of gives you the best of both worlds with no noticeable performance degradation I can see in games.
For my 12900KS I run the following 24/7 OC:
- Set XMP to whatever your RAM kit supports
- Set Short...
- Price range is negotiable; full price range is open depending on condition.
- Don't need a MHz display; AT motherboard will be Socket 7
- 2 5.25" bays, 1 external + 1 internal 3.5" bays are more than enough. Looking for a mini tower for a baby AT board.
- No keylock required
- No PSU needed
I'm having an issue with Deep Sleep on this monitor, PC specs in sig.
- With Deep Sleep disabled, the monitor works as expected, but the internal fan stays on (audible in a quiet room) and the monitor consumes up to 15-30w even with the PC off.
- With Deep Sleep enabled, the monitor will wake...
Dan_D When I saw the topic "Is Intel's X299 Platform Better than the X99?" posted I was excited to see a [H] comparison of X99 chips (5960X, 6950X, etc) vs X299 chips (7900X, etc). Instead we get an editorial piece that explains details that we could have just read from the spec sheets. With...

I'm using a Gigabyte X99 Gaming-G1 in where I had some similar issues. You can read more about some of my issues (and solutions) HERE. Gigabyte sill hasn't solved the booting into BIOS with a hard drive connected yet; there is a work around posted in my thread.
As for the memory...
Been at this game for a while... This is the list for the main gaming PC throughout the years:
Trident TVGA8900D-R 1MB
Matrox Mystique 220 Business 4MB
Creative Voodoo2 12MB SLI
Creative Voodoo Banshee 16MB
Visiontek Riva TNT 2 Ultra 32MB
Leadtek Geforce 2 GTS 32MB
Leadtek Geforce 3 Ti500 64MB...
Do you have any drives connected that previously had data on them? That was the issue for me any many others on Gigabyte X99 boards. Disconnect your SSD/Hard drive and you'll be able to get into the BIOS just fine. See the X99-Gaming G1 issue tracker here
The headphones do not buzz at all, it's the Center Channel of the 5.1 system that buzzes when headphones are selected. Select speakers, no buzz. Select headphones, center channel buzz.
Added 2 more issues with the onboard sound which is a shame given the highly touted audio capabilities of this board. (I mind as well use retro's BIOS above and go back to the Essence STX I've had since 2009)
Updated issue 2 with some overclocking settings.
Thanks retro. I see you have 2666MHz memory in your sig. Were you able to get your memory running at 2666MHz using a 1.0 BCLK multiplier? If so, are you able to overclock the CPU with the memory at that setting?
Kyle - Were you able to keep the 1.0 BCLK multiplier on the Gigabyte X99-UD4 when running the 2666MHz memory speed? I'm currently using a Gigabyte X99-Gaming G1 on BIOS F8c and using XMP settings or manually raising the memory frequency past 2133MHz will automatically set the BCLK multiplier to...
I'm going to use this space to track the issues and solutions I've encountered with the GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI. After doing some searching, a lot of the other Gigabyte X99 boards have similar features / issues; feel free to add your input!
Latest BIOS: F8c (9/18/14)
1) Unable to enter BIOS...
A single GPU system shouldn't be that bound by an 8150. While not the fastest CPU out there, scaling is pretty nominal for mid-range to high end CPU's as games are normally GPU bound.
Example using a GTX 580 here:
I would go ahead and do the upgrade to the 290X using the old 8150 and enjoy...
I don't see the 290X being a "platform bottleneck" at 1920 res. While some games (BF3) show the 780 ahead of the 290X @ 1920 and then swapping leads at 2560 and up, other games (Metro LL) show the 290X well ahead at all resolutions including 1920. The GCN architecture simply excels/scales with...
My wife has been rocking a GTX 260 for 5 years since release in 2008. She plays Borderlands 2, CS:GO, and FFXIV just fine.
CPU's have had much more staying power for me:
E6600 on 680i SLI: 2 years (Nov 06 - Nov 08)
i7 920 on X58: 3 years (Nov 08 - Nov 11)
3930k on X79: 2 years and...
You'd be surprised. Using GTX 780's in SLI; Crysis 3 at 1920x1200 with maximum AA and very high settings averages in the 60's and dips into the low 30 fps! Not fully playable in multiplayer, IMHO.
Just some constructive feedback on these video card reviews: I enjoy the testing methodology of telling the readers what is subjectively "playable" and then backing those claims up with fps data. Even if my view of playable is different (eg. Crysis 3 multiplayer is not playable to me at an...
Running 2 x 780 DCII's at around 1215 max boost clock. After removing the cooler, scraping off the 100lbs of factory TIM, and re-applying a nice layer of MX4; Temps are usually around high 70's except for Metro and Crysis 3 where they peak around 83C using the auto fan profile.
Yeah, looks like a bad bin. If you upped the boost voltage to the max (37 or 38mV) it would have probably been stable, however as others have noted, you should not have to do this. Hopefully the RMA solves it for you.
Try using EVGA Precision to up the max GPU voltage and give 3DMark another run. Go with a .020V (20mV) increase on that card for testing. The ACX version is a factory overclocked version and you may have received a poorly binned card.
Coming from someone who has run SLI or Xfire since the 6800 Ultra and X800 XT (not counting the old Voodoo2 which ran Quake wonderfully in SLI  ), I have experienced this error periodically over the years using Nvidia cards, especially in SLI. While I've never had it crash when running 2D...
All good. The 760 is a sweet card and a substantial upgrade over the old 8800's. Let us know how she plays on Crysis 3; that game has been the hardest for my current system to run.
