Oh the memories of those days :)
It's a bit tricky, since no single device can really handle everything to make most out of the sound in DOS games. Ideally, I'd like to have a combination of Roland MT-32 for the older DOS games that support it along with Roland GM/GS product like SC-55...
I really love the card, it's quite a lot better with HD650 than Xonar D2 which I had previously, thanks to the dedicated headphone amp. I have tweaked the bass end of the equalizer a bit stronger and also like to use Dolby Headphone and 7.1 speaker shifter. I know that many people don't like...
I got this too with downloaded drivers and confirmed it with yes-button and everything works perfectly fine. I suppose it's just a reminder for first time users. :)
Edirol HyperCanvas and Yamaha S-YXG50 both have VSTi plugins available and have very good GM instrument banks, so those would be my top two recommendations - the only downside is that they aren't free and since they are old products, it might be hard to find them for sale.
FluidSynth is a...
I occasionally listen to some general midi files with Winamp and Edirol HyperCanvas VSTi running standalone with a tool called SAVIhost. This also needs a tool called LoopBe to create an internal midiport to transfer data between Winamp and SAVIhost. GM files from older games sound absolutely...
The headphone amp in Xonar DG, according to Asus, works best with 32-150 ohm impedance, while the impedance of HD650 is 300 ohms, so the amp is a bit underpowered for HD650. It will probably still sound very good, but not optimal for these headphones.
I'm very satisfied with HD650 + Essence...
Did a quickie test running down from Jarl's keep in Whiterun and running a pre-defined path around the Wind district. Results in the picture below.
Edit: Still more playable with single card than in Crossfire config.
I definitely was disappointed too with negative Crossfire scaling (running 2 x 5870 @ 2560x1600). One of the major games in 2011 coming out and on the launch day there's not even estimated release time for the Crossfire profile. Will remember this the next time it's time to buy new video...
Maybe the PATH environment variable is missing or modified for some reason while the batch file is running? In your batch file, try to enter the complete path for the executable:
%windir%\system32\taskkill.exe /IM LightTPD.exe /FIf all the environment variables are missing, just replace...
My scores on Intel HD 3000 are 5.9 for aero and 5.1 for gaming (driver version 8.15.10.2509) and on Radeon 6630M 6.7/6.7 (Catalyst 11.9). Same config as jeremyshaw, except 256 GB SSD and i7-2620M CPU.
I took a look at a couple of reviews at notebookcheck.net for laptops with Radeon 6470M...
Sounds definitely strange. It might be a good idea to uninstall all display drivers and afterwards install Sony provided graphics driver and then upgrade both drivers to more recent versions as instructed in that Notebookreview forum post. Make sure to be in Speed mode when you are uninstalling...
Since your motherboard has AGP bus on it for graphics, there probably is an option called "AGP aperture size" in BIOS. Try to set it as low as possible or disable it, if there's an option, and see if it helps out.
Take a look at a post here on Notebookreview.com forum for instructions how to get your GPU drivers up to date without sacrificing stamina/speed switching ability on Vaio SA/SB/SC series. This works great for me - I have Vaio SA (VPCSA2Z9E). :)
Sound Blaster with quad core audio processor? Press release is here. Will be interesting to see how it compares in practice to existing X-Fi models and Xonar Essence cards.
Yes, this is a really good game - well, at least on XBOX! Art and audio are top quality and the controls worked really well with the gamepad. After a few minutes of playing I had some doubts that I would have motivation to finish it, but the combination of graphics style, soundtrack and...
One more vote for SteelSeries SX and G9x. As the previous poster said, SX has superb tracking and it's really easy to keep clean. The only downside is that it's a bit "noisy" when you move your mouse on it, but nothing really disturbing. :)
Agreed, feeling the shared sense of shame here in Finland too, so let's make that cover all Nordic countries! :)
And I clicked this thread because I misread the subject as "Fixed: I don't have a glue", and thought it would be about some kind of new genre construction game. :D
Do you have another free PCI-E slot on your motherboard you can try that sound card in? You don't have to use the shorter x1 slot for it, but can also plug it in to a full length x16 PCI-E slot, if you have one free. Certain motherboard components like LAN, SATA and USB controllers and...
At that price, Xonar DX or D1 would probably be my number one choice, unless you can find a used D2 or D2X. DX and D2X cards are for PCI-E bus and D1 and D2 for PCI. D2 and D2X have higher quality DACs than DX/D1 and include DTS Connect in addition to Dolby Digital Live.
On budget level...
The guys over networking forum will certainly come up with something. Going to keep my eye on both of the posts, I'm really curious about the reason that prevents it from working. Good luck! :)
In your original post, you had some outbound NAT rules for VLANs too that were connected to ports 3074/88, probably automatically created by pfSense, try to remove them and see if it helps. Canyouseeme also shows my 3074/88 ports closed, so it's better to rely on XBOX's own Live connection test...
I'm not sure about this, since I don't have any VLANs configured, but selecting LAN should allow any address in LAN interface, including those that are not allocated to any VLAN.
I forgot to mention it before, I'm running pfSense 2.0-RC3 (amd64), so maybe there has been some changes since RC1...
I'm using pfSense too and get all green on XBOX Live connection test. I don't have any VLAN configured. Try to remove source port restrictions from those rules, since it's likely that the server is transmitting from a port that is different than the destination port. My Live rules look like...
Picked up Test Drive Unlimited 2 for 9.99 and just found out that Securom activation won't accept the Steam supplied key for the game. :( Anyone else having this problem?
Diablo II with high resolution patch, Sacred 2 or Titan Quest are great choices too. Might include a risk that she'll get really attached to those games for a while. Have to get more loooooot... :)
I'm running both PS3 and XBOX360 with only HDMI cable going to TV (40" Sony Bravia W5500), and the TV can pass Dolby Digital encoded audio over optical output to my receiver, which doesn't have any HDMI inputs. I didn't notice any lag in audio output whether it was running directly from...
I have seen this also happening on Xonar DX and D2, but not on Essence STX. I remember seeing a work-around suggestion somewhere - according to it DDL should remain active all the time if you enable monitoring on line input - even if you don't have any input signal coming that way. I only have...
If the vendor lists the product code and it contains "SSDSA2MH160G2" it should be X25-M 160 GB generation 2 drive, which is the latest available X25-M until 3rd generation drives are out later this year or early next year.
There are different endings to that code, C1 seems to be 9.5 mm bulk...
I wonder if this means that CrossFireX might be crippled with D3D games running full screen because secondary GPU is running on 2D clocks? I hope that "samples/games" is only referring to their own technology demos and not to games in general.
I purchased one of these for my girlfriend's computer last year, and yeah, it has AV200 chip on it (see the picture here), but is missing Dolby effects/encoding, including Dolby Headphone. It does have DTS though.
I've bumped into this problem too with Xonar U1 using the latest drivers - turning off GX option from Xonar control panel before running Skype fixed the problem for me - might be worth a try. :)
Here's a link to an article with some more specific information about Xense:
http://vr-zone.com/articles/asus-xonar-xense--under-the-hood/8753.html
According to the article it seems to use same serie of Texas Instruments 6120 headphone amplifier as Essence STX uses.
Xonar is an excellent...
I'm mostly using a pair of Sennheiser HD-650 and occassionally Yamaha RX-V640 A/V receiver with 5.1 setup. I have grown to like STX + HD-650 combination very much, so the external system is getting less and less usage over time. :)
A quick Google search from various reviews and a look at Asus press releases turned up following launch (but not necessary availability) order for Xonars:
xx/2007: Xonar D2
xx/2007: Xonar D2X
xx/2007: Xonar U1
02/2008: Xonar DX
06/2008: Xonar HDAV 1.3
06/2008: Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe
07/2008...
Happy to hear that you are pleased with your new sound card! I have a pair of HD650 hooked up to my STX - they sound amazing using +12 dB gain setting - so I can definitely recommend them too. :)
Yes, Essence can output 5.1 with Dolby Digital Live encoding from S/PDIF out connector by coax or optical (with included adapter) cable. I'm using STX with both headphones and external A/V receiver and 5.1 setup - works great! :)
