Thanks for the feedback.
I was considering the K processor because the price difference was only $10 and it keeps my options open in the future. I went with the Sabertooth board because it looks like it's built with above-average quality components. Maybe I just bought into the marketing...
Current system (in sig) is now over 5 years old. I'm about to start a new round of Microsoft certification testing which means deploying virtual servers running Windows Server 2008R2, Server 2012, and the Microsoft System Center suite as part of my study/prep routine.
Current: Intel C2Q...
If it bothers you, you can EASILY disable Siri while the phone is locked. I just wish there was a prompt when enbaling Siri rather than defaulting to this access being allowed.
Scroll down for screenshot...
Understood, and I agree. I don't have to like it though.
That said, I did pre-order a 4S... just waiting for tracking info so they did get me this round.
I agree with all of the above.
iOS 5 is definately an improvement.... 4.3.2 was almost unusable on my 3GS due to poor memory management and pruning. If I closed apps constantly, it wasn't too bad, but otherwise it was almost unusable. But so far with iOS 5, no slow performance issues even...
A friend and I used to drive just to see how many we could find; it became a sport. We intended to do some analysis of discovered AP's along a defined route and to chart the growth in the use of wireless networking as well as wireless security functionality.
My setup was a Dell Latitude P3...
I had PlayOn in an XP VM (under VMware Workstation 6.5) when I was on the trial period. Since purchasing it, I'm running it directly on my main Win7-64 machine.
It seems to perform pretty similarly in both situations for me. It works pretty well overall, but sometimes there are just issues...
You sure about this? I've seen nothing about this anywhere, and I also wasn't asked which version (Windows or Linux) that I wanted like I was when I took the VI3 test. Also, VMware's site indicates they are extending availability for the VI3 test, but that the vSphere4 upgrade offer is still...
This is definately a great deal; this promotion makes it 50% off. I picked this up a week ago on this same deal after going through a couple trial periods with the software.
For those of you with an XBox or PS3, give this a look. I use it regularly to stream shows from Hulu to my TV via my...

My company's been waiting for View 4 to test the PCoIP functionality but no luck getting it so far. It was announced on Monday 11/9, but it's not available yet to people who have licenses for View 3, nor is the demo available for download.
My understanding, both from our VMware TAM...
I've been watching it since it was released too, and as far as I saw the main complaint was that the game was pretty buggy initially. I did some quick research before jumping on the deal yesterday and it seems that most of the big issues have been worked out.
You sold me.
Steam needs to quit having these 50% off deals. I'm buying more games than I have time to play. I just picked up Empire: Total War and now I have to divide my time between it and Colonization. The wife is sure to love this. :D
What study methods are you all using for VCP410? Book? Lab? Class?
I'll be upgrading my VCP3 before the end of the year as well. I'll be using a combination of this book in addition to studying in both my personal lab as well as my employers lab which I am currently implimenting.
Also...
Our storage subsystem has consistently been a trouble spot for us and we continue to see repeated bursts of super-high disk latency. In the real-time view, I can see details such as disk read/write rate, command rate, disk latency, etc, but if I look in the 'past day' view, I can only see 'disk...
I'm currently working with a moderately sized VMware deployment. We have multiple ESX 3.5 clusters at multiple locations in North America. One of the big issues we have is with the reporting provided by Virtual Center. In VC, a lot of the detailed data is only retained in the "Real-Time"...
Just a followup .....
Put Untangle into a VM with a few client machines in my home lab last Thursday. First impressions: Wow, this is a polished product! I'd heard of it before but disregarded it figuring it was like all the other *nix-based firewall/router distributions.
Performed the...
Good point, you definitely need to consider after-hours and on-call hours when negotiating. Unfortunately for me, I was an internal applicant so I was told "Since it's internal, we can only give you x%." .... essentially 'Take it or leave it'.
I think I jinxed myself. Got a call last night...
I know, and I didn't want to be "that guy" to post it again. I was hoping to get suggestions for a Windows-based solutions to avoid having more hardware to maintain. Since I didn't get that, perhaps there just aren't any that are noteworthy?
I've actually been asked by a friend to get his...
Salary here as well. No extra compensation for being on call or taking calls, holiday or not, or driving into the office if it's required (though it rarely is).
They will occasionally toss us some comp-time if we get stuck with a lot of after-hours work, but it's hit or miss and never...
I've been out of the small/medium business support for a while so please bear with the question. Essentially, I'm looking for suggestions for internet filtering for a small office with about 10 PC's, 7 users, and 1 server. The server is Windows 2003 Standard x86 w/ Service Pack 2 running an...
VMware has some information on their page: link. Basically, you must take an authorized VMware training course and pass a single certification test.
At my job, we have a decent VMware ESX deployment (nearly 1000 Windows servers total, probably 1/2 - 2/3 are virtual). I was told we had a ton...
I agree that many places still run older operating systems. At my job, we manage almost 1000 Windows Servers.... most are 2003, some apps still require 2000, and we still have a few NT4 boxes hanging around (more than I'd like to admit :p). We are just at the point where we are deploying our...
Currently, I have the following:
1 MCP and 2 MCTS's
MCITP:Server Administrator
VMware Certified Professional
Linux+
I'm currently studying up on Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (formerly SMS) and am considering taking 70-401 to get an MCTS for it.
How about neither? Why take exams for the previous generation of products when you could spend that time, effort, and money on the Server 2008 exams?
I would recommend you change your question to "MCITP:SA or MCITP:EA?". The great thing about it is they share many of the same exams so you...
Umm, you do realize that the CCNA is an entry-level certification forcing candidates to prove a solid understanding of the basic fundamentals of networking, right? It's not intended to prove a deep understanding of complex topics. I think by calling it "sales level material", you're grossly...
True, Server 2008 and Vista are not widely deployed at this point. However, that doesn't mean that many places are not looking to deploy them. For example, my company drags its feet on all kinds of new technologies, yet even we are testing and planning both Vista and Server 2008. During this...
Don't waste your time or money getting an MCSE or MCSA.
If you want to do the Microsoft track, you might as well cert up in the latest OS; go the Server 2008 route and get your MCITP.
I wrote a simple HOWTO that I shared with friends and co-workers when I did this a while back. The content is a little dated as I wrote it up over 3 years ago; I can't say what's changed as I haven't done another install in quite a while.
If I get some free time, I may attempt to perform an...
Just saw this email as well.... Vista Ultimate 64 for $32.50, can't beat that!
I only wish I'd have bought my 2nd copy (for the wife) before they fixed it. Now I'm sure when I do it will be "full" price. :p
I would say they are roughly equivalent tests in terms of objectives, but as I never took 70-290 I cannot speak to the difficult.
I did, however, find the MICTP:SA tests relatively easy with just a bit of studying. However, my background goes back through Win2k and a slight bit of NT so my...
Your chosen path will technically work, but if your end-goal is the MCITP:SA, then you dont have to take the A+ or 70-290. With zero certifications, you only need 70-640, 70-642, and 70-646 for the MCITP:SA.
Honestly, I'd skip the 70-290 anyway. With Server 2008 out, I don't see the benefit...
You could try Calc which is included with the Open Office suite. Open Office is a free, open-source Office suite that contains a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software, and more.
It's not the Hard Drive that it needs a driver for but the SATA controller. If the controller is on-board, take a look at the driver CD that came with the board. Or better yet, hit the manufacturer's website up and download it from there to ensure you have the latest.
Previous versions of...
Bump. This topic died too quickly; there's gotta be more people studying for their MCTS or MCITP certs.
I'm scheduled to take 70-642 (Network Infrastructure) on Friday afternoon. Then, I'll study for 70-640 and 70-646. I haven't decided if I'll continue past that for the Enterprise...
If you're lucky...
When I bought my current house, I had Comcast come out and hook me up for Digital Cable and bring a self-install kit for their internet service. Obviously, I wasn't going to install their software so I called them up to activate it. 3 phone calls and 2 days later, I had...
