I'm in the market for a headset for my computer to use for VoIP (probably Google Talk) but I'm pretty confused.
I've looked at getting just a standard analog headset...but after some research I discovered that my laptop (a 700m) has trouble with it's mic-in port...
Thats still an amazing laptop. Hell my laptop (see sig) will be a kicking laptop for years to come.
The 5400 rpm hd is really of VERY little concern unless you are gaming and want to speed up those load times. The processor and ram in that baby are going to be strong for a long time.
Just tried out Sunbird and boy is this thing buggy. I'd like to move to the iCal medium so I can use things like PHP iCalendar (http://phpicalendar.net/ so pretty!) but Sunbird is too buggy right now.
I'll stick to Outlook :(
I've used Outlook 2003 for as long as I can remember and I'm just wondering if there is something better out there that I've missed.
If I had a Mac I'd be super happy (I love iCal) but alas I do not. Is there anything comparable? Sunbird maybe?
Chiming in again, because everyone is saying you need huge crazy resolutions and I disagree. Get something comfortable for your eyes. If you are squinting at the screen you will not get any work done. If it's too big, you might not be as productive, but you won't have to take a break every 5...
Third year Computer Engineer at Case Western Reserve University here.
I get along perfectly fine with my 12.1 inch 700m as my only computer. The fact that I can program ANYWHERE I want to helps me big time. The laptop comes with me everywhere I go and when a stroke of genius hit I can stop...
So there you go, PM beats the P4. 6800 Go Ultra clobbers the x600. I think it really is no contest...there is a reason people are buying the XPS2...it is the best gaming laptop out there currently.
sin, how do you like the xps2? hope everything is going well
that is a gaming machine and you will get the most out of it if you do a complete format. Before you do it, go to dell's support site and download all the drivers and burn them. Not only is dell amazing at keeping that page...
IBM. You'll have better battery life, better portability, and better warranty (talking to Dell is very frustrating. I was lied to last time.).
I wanted a t42 when I was shopping for laptops but couldn't afford it :(.
The screen is very good because of the colors. The blacks are very black (not grey). The brightness also makes it great for DVDs. Not to mention the widescreen. The only problem is that you can't really watch movies with more than 2 people. 3 might be able to do it comfortably but it's...

For photos of the 700m. I'll take more later of the 700m and the 6000 (my sister's computer and she is using it at the moment).
There is a picture of my hands on the home keys.
I'd say yes...but a different bad ass effect. The WUXGA is a damn thats a lot of space kind of a screen. The glossy WXGA is a damn those colors are perfect and everything is so sharp/bright kind of a screen.
Both will wow.
2 USB ports and 1 firewire on the 700m. USB on the left side...
You can get a bluetooth SD card, pcmcia card, or usb dongle. I know it sucks compared to integrated but there are SD and pcmcia cards that don't poke out of the dimensions of the case.
As far as the size...you get used to it. At first the , . and / keys were VERY difficult to hit. Now I...
700m can be had for $750 with dells $750 off $1499 deals. Got mine for ~900 after tax, shipping, and memory from newegg.
The screen might be small but the 6000 is just huge. If you own a 700m you will bring it everywhere you go because it just fits everywhere and you don't even notice it in...
Went to the Apple store and tried it out. My gripes:
1) The ball is waaaay tiny. You can do up and down scrolling well but side to side sucked and I certainly couldn't do 360 degree swoops and circles like the apple site said. More like rectangles.
2) If you use a mouse like I do (one...
Told you to wait patiently. 71GRJ4ZVZMDWMJ code for 40% off $999+. Expires after 4000 uses so hurry up! Just configured a fully loaded XPS2 for $1708.80 with free shipping and free printer. Go wild!
Another 2% off if you use a DPA VL18GJW$J$?R98
I recommend the following specs: 2 GHz...
Wow...thinking of stopping by the apple store on my way home from work. Do you think they'll have them there (apple usually has stuff in store the day it's announced)?
Drop the ram down to the lowest it will let you and buy it elsewhere (newegg). Also I'd get a DVD burner with it but thats just me. Other than that it looks fine.
But don't order now....wait for either a 35%, 40%, or 750 off deal.
those machines were probably running at lower resolution for some reason (perhaps because 1024x768 is standard for customers who don't know anything about computers). An LCD can only go up to its max resolution and your ibooks max is 1024, sorry.
What most people don't understand for some reason is that the only difference between a 700m and an XPS2 is really the video card.
Thats it. So when doing anything other than gaming the performance will be the same. I think the best route is a small, light laptop and a beast of a gaming...
You don't need an xps or some super huge beast of a laptop to run engineering programs
I know because I am a 3rd year (graduating early too) computer engineer at case western reserve university. And my only computer is my tiny tiny 700m.
Now you said you might be gaming....that IS a...
If I have a MSDN Academic Alliance account do you think I can get Windows Vista?
I'm thinking no...as it's my school that decides what I have access to (and they do give us access to just about everything).
Is there a way to make it so when windows media player is running fullscreen it will override my display timeout setting (which is set for 5 min) and not turn off the display?
