Just been putting my new 2500K build through its paces and currently have it sat at 4.5GHz without really trying too hard :) The vcore is set to 1.32v and the temps hit about 68c under prime torture testing. Does this sound ok? Any tips?
Been seeing a blue box around some of the lasers on this game. Particularly the bit with the large remote control dino. Is this a problem with the game? I'm just a little worried my brand new Asus GTX480 may have a problem! I'm playing it maxed out in 1920x1200 with 8xAA. Not seen any glitches...
Thinking of treating myself to a new vid card to play Crysis 2 (And Skyrim when it comes out) and I have a budget of £200. I currently have a GTX260 216sp and was wondering what would be a good choice for my money? Thinking of the GTX480 which can be had for £199 now. Any better ideas?
Ok, i've got a bit of a problem here. I'm running out of SATA ports on my Asus P5Q. I currently have 5 hard drives and a DVD burner connected to the standard red SATA ports. My question is, can I use the white / orange SATA ports to add an extra storage drive? Or are they for RAID use only?
Well, I couldn't resist the price of £159 on the Q9550 and decided to order one as i've had my E6600 for nearly 3 years! I don't think i've ever kept a processor so long before. I know the Q9550 won't be massively faster, I just fancied a new toy :D. What sort of overclock should I get without...
I've been getting some bad slowdown whilst playing games, so thought I would test out my hardware. It seems the culprit could be hard drive failure. I have the following sata drives in my system: 1x160Gb, 1x320Gb and 2x500Gb, all Western digital. The two 500Gb drives fail the short drive self...
Very unhappy with my new 4870 so far. I've tried clear sky, Warhead and Grid and all seem to suffer from random slow down. I get 65 to 70 fps maxed out on Grid and yet it'll suddenly take a nosedive into the 30's for no apparant reason. Clear sky is even worse, at the starting camp it just goes...
Getting a 3D mark vantage score of 5166 for CPU, 8523 for graphics and P7332 marks overall. Does this sound right for the system in my sig?
I seem to be getting random slow down in clear sky and warhead seems to stutter at times. Maybe I expected too much?
Well, I finally got fed up with OCUK sending me blatantly second hand goods. The Leadtek had faulty memory and the Gainward hit 105c within a minute of playing warhead. Problem is, prices on the GTX280 have gone up £30 since I ordered mine. The question is, should I wait for prices to drop...
I don't believe my luck, OCUK have sent me a replacement for my artifacting Leadtek that looks even more used and is even more faulty! This time it's a Gainward and it hits 100c within seconds of starting a game of Warhead! It then starts throttling horribly! :(
Well, I have finally had a replacement GTX280 dispatched after I RMA'd my faulty Leadtek. It's the Gainward model as the Leadtek was out of stock. I take it the Gainward is identical to the Leadtek? Should arrive tomorrow so i'm looking forward to playing some Crysis Warhead. Anyone know what...
I've just installed my shiny new GTX280 and Corsair TX650 and to start with all seemed well. However, after playing Grid for a while I started to notice a chequered translucent pattern coming and going! Now, i'm no expert but it looks more hardware related than driver problems. As I type this...
Is the Corsair TX650 ok for use with the GTX280? I've checked the spec and it says 52A on the 12v rail. This PSU seems to be the best value at this spec level, so I hope it's ok as I need something to replace my Hiper 580 which has a pathetic 30A on the 12v rail.
Well, I think I must have slipped on my mouse button because I've gone and ordered a GTX280 to replace my 8800GTS640. Paid a fairly reasonable £250 for it. Should provide a nice boost at my monitors 1920x1200 native res I hope. Does anyone know if the Leadtek comes with the power adapters needed...
I've currently got an 8800GTS 640 that i've had since launch. It's done me pretty well, in fact it still does well even at 1920x1200 in most games (except crysis:rolleyes:). Is it worth upgrading it at the moment? Or should I hang on for the next gen? I'm kinda eying the 4870.
I'm using an Asus P5Q motherboard, an E6600 and 2x2GB of G.Skill PC2 8000. I've currently got the CPU clocked at 3GHz and the memory at 800MHz. Am i right in saying that my memory is rated for 1000MHz? And would it be of any benefit to run it at 1000?
Something a little odd going on with my P5Q when saving and exiting the bios. If i've made changes it shuts down before restarting. If i don't make any changes it just restarts. Is this normal or do i have a problem? Any ideas?
Note: I'm using the latest 1004 bios.
Well, after months of problems, windows re-installs and burnt memory modules, i've finally had enough of the piece of junk that is the nFarce 680i chipset. I've replaced my P5N32E-SLI board with the standard P5Q P45 board.
Running nice and stable at stock at the moment. What I was wondering...
I currently have a 580w Type R modular powering the system in my sig. Whilst it has never let me down, I keep hearing bad things about them (i.e. they tend to go bang and take half your rig with them). What is the general opinion of it on here? Should I swap it out to be on the safe side? If so...
Right, i've just about had enough of this pain in the arse 680i board. I've decided that it's caused me too many problems, so it's history! Could anyone here spec me a new board?
Criteria as follows:
1) Don't want an Nvidia chipset
2) Preferably under £100
3) 6 Sata ports
4) As future...
I have serious problems! My PC is not responding properly at all. Clicking on things, moving the cursor around, and just general desktop use is just not right. Crysis seems to keep pausing and then continuing too. I've tried resetting everything to stock, reinstalling vista and various drivers...
I currently have an arctic freezer pro, which i am happy with but has started to make a loud vibrating sound on powering up my pc. It dies out after a while but it's still annoying. So, i'm thinking of replacing it with one of the two coolers in the title. Is the thermalright that much better? I...
I am currently using an Arctic freezer pro, an E6600 and an Asus P5N32-E in a TJ09 case. I was wondering about upgrading the cooler to get a little more out of my overclock. I hear good things about the NH-U12F and the Thermalright Ultra-120 but i'm not sure if they will fit with the rest of my...
I've got a really odd problem with my setup at the moment. Every now and again i'll hear a loud clunk as if my hard drive has shut down and my pc will then stop responding. Eventually i'll get a BSOD and i'll have to reset it. I'm getting this once a week or so. Could it be my overclock? Even...
Was thinking what i could treat myself to and was wondering about replacing my 930bf with a 2407WFP. Would my system (in sig) be up to playing the latest games at native resolution? I get the feeling it would for the moment but how long before it will start to struggle?
I've just ordered 2xPapst 41 CFM fans to put in the top two empty fan bays on my TJ09. Currently the side intake is sucking air in and the fan at the back is blowing air out. When i add the two new fans, i'll have three blowing air out and one sucking air in. This doesn't sound like a good plan...
Right, i just had my first propper go at overclocking. I've got my E6600 happily running at 2.8Ghz currently. Does the 2.8Ghz apply to both cores? How can i check the speed of each core? Going to try for 3Ghz if it proves to be stable.
I've just got my new C2D setup running and i've noticed a massive difference in CPU temperature when removing the side panel of my Lian-Li PC60. With the side panel on the CPU temp is 42c, and with it removed it's down to 31c! Is there anything i can do? Or do i need a new case?
Well, i've almost finalized my shopping list:
Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI
2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Comes to £426.70
Anyone got any advice before i order?
Well, these two chips have just had their prices cut here in the UK. I was going to plump for the E6600 but the E6700 has had a massive £100+ slashed off the price down to £209. The E6600 on the other hand has had a much more conservative price cut of £40 down to the £150 mark. Which to get?
Right, i've finally decided that a 680i board would be a waste of money for me and that a 650i board would serve me just as well for half the price. The question is, which is the best? The most common ones seem to be the Asus, MSI and Abit boards.
I've just noticed this board for around £150 but i can't find any information on it at all. No reviews or opinions or anything. Is it only just released? Seems to be some confusion on whether it is in fact a 680i board or not. Also has PCI-X whatever that is?
I've been on the lookout for the ideal board for my needs but there is just too much choice. Just when i think i've decided on one i read something bad about it. My requirements are as follows:
1) Support for the new 1333 quad cores.
2) Would like to be able to get my E6600 up to 3Ghz.

Crucial 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM PC2-6400 Unbuffered Non-ECC CL4, Manufacturers code: BL2KIT12864AA80. It appears to be Ballistix memory but the price seems a little too low! Only £111. Opinions?
Just wondering, what is the current trend for DDR2 memory? Is it up or down? I'm wondering whether to buy a 2x1Gb ballistix kit i've seen for £112 now, or wait until i get the rest of my stuff? I'll buy now if the prices are likely to go up in the next few weeks.
Just wondering what the best cooling solution would be for the Core 2 Duo processors. I currently have a thermalright xp-90 on my 3700 clawhammer and was wondering if i can re-use it. Also, can anyone recommend me a motherboard? I'm hearing good things about the DS3, but would it be quad core...
I'm currently running an A64 3700 Clawhammer and was just wondering exactly how much faster a C2D E6600 would be in real world performance. Would it be worth the cost of stripping my system down and rebuilding? I'm pretty sure my CPU holds my 8800GTS back a bit. Should i go for it now or hang on...
