mmm "good" is such a relative term, but I will upload pics later tonight.
only problems that i know of:
fillport: perfect i would say... was installed for less than a month before i took it out.
you'll have to lap the cpu blocks and one of them had a MINOR MINOR leak (over a year)...
still want to buy or trade what you have?
I am taking apart my water cooling system since my reservior cracked for the third time T_T .. and i am moving my system to a pc-v1000 which doesnt have enough room for all the water cooling stuff.. back to air cooling.... heres what i have (all 1/2"...

these are server things and the DELL poweredge is for NOR-CAL pickup ONLY.
the specs:
quad p3 xeon 500mhz 1mb cache each
2gb ram (max)
dell perc2 (adaptec aac-364) 128mb cache, 72 hour battery backup...
3ware is the way to go. If you are tying to save money, hit ebay and just do a search for 3ware.
i personally got a new 7500-8 new for 250 (got it over a year ago) then i got a 7810 for 200 (half a year ago) on fleabay =P. quite a deal i say.
hehehe dell... pos
i ordered my digi cam from dell cuz of the promotion (20% off and then stacked w/ 35 bucks off); it was cheap; dont think i coulda found my camera (DSC-T1) for that price. ETA shipping: 1 month after order date.
my rig is watercooled but thanks to my shitty tubing job, one of the CPU is around 1-2c higher than the other. but with taht extra 1 or 2 degrees higher, does it really matter? =O
software raid5 performance will differ among your hardware.
as for me, i tried raid5 w/ 3 200gb (WD SE) using a shitty promise 100tx on a dual xeon 500.
Performance was horrible... max of 2mb/sec writes. (the controller itself drained the cpu like hell so there were little cpu left for...
that sounds like the drive problem, not the controller...
first get your controller to like your drive then you MIGHT have some hope. other than that, i dont think you can salvage your data, since data is split among the drives. If you did jbod, you can get some your data.
thats raid0...
it depends on what you are going to do... if you are only using it to hold your anime, hdd isnt the way to go. If you are serving them, thats another story (Like me!).
currently, i am using a dual xeon 500 + 3ware 7810 with 7 200gb raid5. The speed is GREAT. I tried software raid at first...
too bad your monitors/lcds arent the same make (or at least on the same level).
other than that, kick ass =P
i should consider a radeon PCI card for my gaming >.<;; parhelia doesnt cut it T,T
sounds like a similar problem w/ my little bro:s laptop. its an inspiron (not sure what model). HUGE mobo problems. it would have trouble powering on (just like your problem but worse. even rebooting from windows would cause power-up failures); flaky pcmcia; probably some more problems that i...
no the parhelia or the P-series can only do 1 dvi if you are doing tri-head, You need their adapter for the second dvi -> 2 dsub. (unless they have a dvi -> 2 dvi for sale that i dont know about O.O)
but i dont think you would notice the difference between dvi and dsub if your LCD is nice...
for sprint, i think you need the vision plan for 3G.
during the vision promotion, it was unlimited vision, therefore, unlimited internet. too bad its over.
3ware =P the way to go!
i personally have 2 3ware cards on 2 machines.
one of them a 7810 with 7 200gb (filled with anime only on a 100mbit line =)
the other a 7500-8 with 3 250gb (desktop)
hope you dont choke your raid card like i did.
no, there are quite a few to choose from when it comes to hardware raid. just the price difference between the cards are quite amazing =p
but hey, what you pay is what you get.
i agree... dell sucks major donkey balls...
perhaps this link might help you out in your/friends decision

well it would all depend on the pci ata card now would it ;)
i dont think the drive on a ata66 controller would make a difference.. the drives rarely will be doing that speed...
as far as the pci bus is concerned.. if you are using it for network xfers, given that you have a 100mbit...
i used to have a smartraidV... was good for me ^^
9 drive raid0 kicked ass...
then dpt got acquired by adaptec and i think adaptec just relabelled some dpt stuff as adaptec and sold them...
only problem i can really see is the support for the dpt being considerably crappier than the...
If you guys are REALLY interested... i can work something out between my brother and my roommates so my bro can get teh card...
that is if you guys are SERIOUS
i want to get rid of it (both the dell and the adaptec card) asap... before price drops on it even more >.<
if you are in the pleasanton area, i am sure we can work something out =P
