The Creepiest Windows 8 Error Code? Stumped

What about that says wireless modem to you? It does have an intel wireless chipset on the mobo - the crash happened while loading a page in IE (don't shoot the messenger, he's an older fellow)

The Creepiest Windows 8 Error Code? Stumped

The guy on the french site is asking if microsoft is trolling him. The other sites have no answers. Unfortunately I was trying to fix this before he went away for a while, no success and no access to the machine for a couple weeks - I'll update when I can get a hold of the minidump.

The Creepiest Windows 8 Error Code? Stumped

Hi all - I'm doing tech support for a friend's new Toshiba laptop that has been throwing occasional BSODs in Windows 8 x64. The weirdest thing about these errors is that the error address is real weird, and that I can't find ANYTHING in english regarding these errors online. I've had a lot of...

Is this build beginning to fail?

I noticed a strange thing today. Yesterday the machine hard locked, the final time with static on the screen (although the mouse pointer stayed on top of the static) and I just gave up and held the power button until the machine shut off. A few hours later I noticed that the numlock light on...

Is this build beginning to fail?

further update - comp just crashed hard (very rapid looping of the music that was just playing) when i hit the power button, the sound stopped, but the computer stayed on (still frozen) when I held down the power button for 3 secs, the machine finally shut off. All this is pointing to...

Is this build beginning to fail?

So I'm back with an update and a new problem - I got the Cooler Master PSU, which immediately fixed all my problems. Until today. I'm exactly back where I started. Random reboots, hard crashes, weird blue screens, and one very alarming time when the computer started power cycling rapidly with...

Is this build beginning to fail?

Since I got 6 years out of my last one, and who knows what the future my bring, I ended up with a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171057 Overkill I know, but I am clearly the "fire and forget" type with PSUs, so I might as well forget about something jammin'

Caps ok. They are all the ultra durable caps.

Is this build beginning to fail?

I'll check the motherboard, and I'm looking into replacing the PSU - the motherboard is from 2009. I honestly don't think this is windows install corruption, and would only go to reinstalling/changing drives if this problem became very persistent after a PSU switch. All drive checks and...

Is this build beginning to fail?

OK so interesting development - I was just using windows (nothing fancy) and the screen went dark - a second later it popped back up and said "the graphics driver has just stopped working and recovered" about ten seconds after that, another BSOD, still System service exception, and the error was...

Is this build beginning to fail?

Any advice on a good quiet future-proof PSU? The last one seems to have given me six good years... :) How about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371052

Is this build beginning to fail?

Hmmm, PSU could be suspect - I thought I had replaced it in '09 but it might still be the Cooler Master Real Power RS-450-ACLY 450W I bought in 2006. I could see that causing hard reboots and power cycling, but could it also be causing BSODs?

Sorry, was just updating my sig - running Windows 7 professional x64. Build should be in the sig.

Is this build beginning to fail?

Hi Hardforum! I've got a great (if aging) build that this forum helped me build a few years ago and recently it's been starting to act up. I had a run of BSODs and hard reboots after upgrading to Catalyst 12.6 drivers, so I rolled back to 12.4 hotfix, and that had improved my problems until...

SSD Upgrade - AHCI with old SATA drives?

Actually quick question - If I pull out the HDD that is currently C: and has my W7 x86 install on it, and then after installing W7 x64 to the SSD with AHCI - can I plug the old hard drive back in to pull files from it? My question is will Windows know which drive to boot off of?

SSD Upgrade - AHCI with old SATA drives?

Upgrading from Windows 7 x86 to x64, upgrading to 8GB of memory and adding a Crucial 128GB SSD for OS and app storage. Question: I just (stupidly) went into my BIOS and switched over to AHCI in anticipation for the new drive and on reboot got BSODs because my OS is installed on drives in IDE...

    Is This A Memory Issue?

Like I said, both sticks pass endless runs of memetest - they are GOOD. do you guys really think it could be a memory issue??

    Is This A Memory Issue?

Like I said, I've run both sticks of ram through memtest twice with no errors or problems - the problem only comes up when I use both sticks at once. The Ram is good.

    Is This A Memory Issue?

In order to troubleshoot a breaking-down old build I've got myself a nice new system: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45C-UD3R CPU: Intel Dual Core E8500 Memory: G.Skill F2-8500CL5D (2x2GB) GPU: EVGA GeForce 9800GTX+ (256MB) I didn't upgrade the PSU - it is a 3 year old cooler master 450W...

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

Thanks for the reply deacon - hopefully I'm going down the right road... and if it's the PSU, then I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. It's not so much that I think a reinstall is a bad thing - more that I wish my computer had waited until W7 came out retail before dying :) - I would...

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

thanks for all the replies - it's definitely not the hard drives, as the computer will crash in BIOS, and it'll do that even if I have all the hard drives disconnected. It's not the memory - I've swapped out both sticks. As for the PSU... I don't see any indication that the PSU is involved -...

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

Update: This is worse than I thought It doesn't have anything to do with windows. The interval until crashing has gotten a lot shorter... I was poking around in the BIOS and it crashed... I rebooted, and crash before the POST beep. Rebooted again and it POSTed and then crashed on the...

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

Thanks for the reply heatless thankfully I am a regular backup kind of guy, and my stuff is distributed across multiple drives. All the data I need is backed up and isolated from the comp. Also, data doesn't seem to get touched in these crashes. Just pulled together a cart of 500 bucks worth...

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

just as a postscript - you might notice I wasn't planning on buying a new PS. I have a good Cooler Master 450W power supply in there... but now I'm doubting myself. Is there any way this could be a PS issue? The fact that once it starts crashing it just keeps doing it makes me nervous.

I'd like to try W7 RTM before I buy it...

The documentation on the page seems to say that you'll need to do a clean install with the retail version once it comes out... unfortunately.

The Strangest Crash, At The WORST Time

So I've just started getting a very weird hard lockup, which has me completely perplexed. Running a 3-year-old rig that's getting ready for an upgrade: XP up to date ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo Athlon X2 4200+ 2 gigs DDR 800 GeForce 7800GT For starters I haven't installed anything...

Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

some good news, some bad news. I pulled all the files off the drive using Disk Internals NTFS viewer - really handy tool! I made a clean Bart PE disk and booted into that and ran a scandisk on the drive and found HUNDREDS of unreadable sectors - not just corrupt, but real bad sectors -...

Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

Well, bad news. it's not the MBR - first of all I was suspicious, because the machine boots into the windows loader, so it seems to get past the MBR stuff which would be pre-NTFS, no? Anyway, booted into the recovery console, which, as I said, can't even do a DIR or CHKDSK (it says it can't...

Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

Thanks for all the great advice folks, and don't worry about me, i'm only running around trying different fixes a little. Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

Thanks for the advice guys gonna pull all my data off the drive today and then try the MBR fixes (just in case something goes wrong) - if that works, great. if not, then it'll be a fresh install of windows.

Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

haha - i've been suspecting the same! just worried, because messing with the MBR is a good way to quickly lose a lot of stuff. I'm hoping to do this safely, then go for a fix. Weird thing is - the PE i'm using doesn't even show any problems at all with the drive. There's probably one byte...

here's an update - I've managed to use the diskinternals boot CD (no access to the other SATA machine right now) and have verified that everything is still there on both partitions of the main drive. When looking at the drives from a preinstalled environment, everything is fine - which makes it...

Heavy Duty Windows Crash - worst I've seen, and now I need help :(

Hey all - been building and using PCs for 10+ years, so I'm no stranger to crashes. This one is new to me, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach it. Windows XP (up-to-date) PC with about 2 year old hardware, including a 500gb caviar HDD. I was watching a flash video on...
