What is "coil whine"? I have heard this referred to several times, but not sure what it is. Does it happen under certain conditions, or is it constant? Is it something some people are sensitive to, and not others?
My card is as quiet as can be. I cannot hear it whatsoever over the sound...
did they raise the msrp for this card? i bought the day of release for $299, but i've seen prices fluctuate on newegg between $299 and $309, and anywhere from $299 to $340 on amazon depending on availability (it's been OOS on newegg several times since release).
so you spend $30-40 on an aftermarket cooler... why not spend $25 more and get the GTS and get 10% more performance?
i agree with you that $65 is problably not worth the minor increase, however if you're going to have to buy stuff and modify the GT to be happy, the perhaps the step-up starts...
personally i just tell em should something happen within a reasonable amount of time (say, 30 days or 90 days) to send it back to me and i help them rma the card. this offers them some protection, without you having it hanging over your head indefinitely.
they would have to pay double...
i have 3 radeon 9800's (one is an AIW, which has never been overclocked), and unfortunately every single one of these cards has exhibited this problem. they all perform fine in 2D, but gaming brings out artifacts, making them unusable in that regard.
my guess is that, over the years there's a...
yes, it's back in stock again, but at the higher price.
cheifvalue.com also has it in stock at the same higher price ($229 less $30 MIR)

yea, was the EVGA one off newegg.. good card, oc'd to 770Mhz/1.1Ghz. benchmarks and synthetics are faster, tho honestly it doesn't really "feel" faster - not noticeably different from my 8800GTS 640mb in "realword gaming experience". perhaps if i were running higher than 1680 native res...

Quad Copper Pipe Cooler
edit: back in stock again but at a higher price: $229 less $30 MIR
why suggest a cooler? if you're gonna do that, suggest an 8800GTS. You can get the BFG 8800GTS (G92) for $239 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143119
that makes the GT irrelevant if you have to upgrade the cooling.
this might be a good buy: MSI 512MB OC...
ati tool does not currently work on g92 GTS.
i also don't think memory bandwidth is the limiting factor, at least in crysis. @1680, with gpu core of 800mhz, i get about 3 fps increase (about 10%).
keeping the gpu @ 670 and increasing the memory clocks to 1.1Ghz results in a 1fps avg. very...
not running benchmarks and just comparing game play, my stock clocked g92 doesn't offer noticeably improved gameplay compared to my g80 @ 621Mhz/1Ghz. being a gfx whore i run high quality textures, turn off texture opts, and use 16xAF with the highest AA mode allowing smooth play (1680x1050...
having trouble overclocking 8800gts (g92)
vista 32
was previously running g80 with fw169.25 and ntune. didn't require a "utility" as i had my clock settings hard coded in the bios.
uninstalled g80, shut down and removed. installed g92, started and installed fw169.25.
not much...
i can get the "fixed" fan control to work, but i can't figure out how to set up "auto" with a new config. seems that's not yet supported - or am i doing something wrong?
why? Crysis is 6 months away; there will be faster cards by then. the G80 will be a year old. i'm sure it will suffice and be quite playable on the G80; albeit not at the highest resolution/settings, but if you HAVE to have that, there will be other options available.
imo it's A LOT like the x1800xt. it was late, ran hot, consumed lots of power, and was very noisy (I would have assumed ati would have learned it's lesson given the x1950xt adressed the excessive noise, but i guess not). it also doesn't hold any real performance advantage over the GTS, even...
i'm not so sure the XT is that competetive with the GTS. the "leaked" reviews were gpu limited @ 1280x1024, and they used a reference GTS running at 500mhz/1.6Ghz... and the ref. GTS still won 2 of 4 benchmarks (tho the XT dominated one; sounfs fishy at that res tho). how many GTS' do you see...
SupCom was supposed to release a DX10 patch in mid April, ahead of CoH. i read in an interview this has been delayed because MS was supposed to release a DX10 update, and as of yet they still haven't.. i would assume this would hold up Relic on CoH DX10 patch as well (supposed to be part of 1.7...
there's something wrong with your system in particular. this is certainly not a common issue.
and in generaly, i am very happy with the 158 series driver for vista for both performance and stability. vista has now become my main OS (no more booting XP for games).
not just vista:
Windows XP
Windows XP Media Center Edition
ForceWare
ForceWare Release 158

and sorry, only noticed the "leaked" posts... grats on being first ;)

i wish you luck, but i would suspect most people who purchased the iceq3 turbo did so for the heatsink/fan that came with it (i know i did), which would make it next to impossible for you to find one :(
no brainer; 8800GTS 320mb.
there's nothing better until we see what ATI offers in that price segment with their rv6xx architecture. might be worth waiting a couple of weeks...
there are several apps to do it in WinXP (rivatuner, ati tool, nvidia's own control panel, etc.).
afaik with vista you need to do it in the bios (which is how mine is overclocked).
i'm running Vista (32-bit). my GTS is clocked @ 648/1000, and have no issues running my current games (C&C3, SupCom, CoH, just finished STALKER and am back working on Oblivion).
forceware is coming around for vista, as evidenced in this thread.
Foxconn (富士康) (SEHK: 2038) is the trade name of Taiwanese firm Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Ltd.) (LSE: HHPD) (NASDAQ: HNHPF). The company was founded in 1970 as a manufacturer of plastic products (notably connectors) and since 1991 has been listed on the Taiwanese stock...
you can get this EVGA, which is the same clockspeed for $379 after MIR.
the BFG is certainly a good card as well, but the higher price isn't really justified as they are the same cards. both companies offer lifetime warranties, so go with the lower cost (EVGA) as it's the better value between...
