Strong bump here
Do these instructions apply to Win 8.1 64bit? Its amazing how hard it still is to get a "mirrored" drive to boot like the drive its mirroring.
I configured my Windows 7 power settings to enter sleep/hibernation after 10/15 minutes. Certain video/audio editing programs on my computer will prevent Windows from sleeping/hibernating if they are open. These programs also dont appear to have an option to enable sleep/hibernation as normal...
is anyone else expecting the newest games to not only look better but also perform the same as LAST years games on the SAME hardware? because i know i am!!

I cant get it to change to 500hz from the default 125hz no matter what i do it seems. I have tried the 2 different progs that are available to change it (usbmrs11.exe and xp-usb-patcher.exe), both say they work successfully but the usb reader programs that come with them say my mouse is still at...
First off, I put only one person in their place and then thanked the rest for their help. Second, how is it that you need a crystal ball to decode the simple question I asked when lomn75 was able to come up with a simple test in one post. Third, shouldnt you be in a thread trying to convince...
If youll notice, I am the OP. The program I am running could never be consistent in its execution time, hence my question in the first place. No its not a defragger, that was just an example you dolt. Its a program I wrote that replicates info from one machine to another based on any...
Well if you had any knowledge of computers then you would know that execution time always varies. Does your hard drive defragment in the same amount of time every time you run it? Thanks for the great advice though.
As for the last two replies, they were actually intelligent replies, thanks...
If a task is scheduled to run every 5 minutes and sometimes the task takes more than 5 minutes, will the scheduler start a new task before the last one is finished or will it wait another 5 minutes to try again? WinXP
It would be great if someone could narrow this down but Ive only found people with the same problem and no answers. For me the advantages of turning off offline files outweighed the disadvantages. Maybe this will lead someone in the right direction so they can narrow it down
I didnt find it on the web, I just was looking through all of my windows settings trying to think of what it may be. When I saw the offline files setting, it seemed like it would make sense for it to do what i described. So i changed it and rebooted and it worked.
PS. yes i rebooted previous...
I had a problem copying anything(text, files, etc.) and then pasting it. It was like it would retain the info for 1 second and then lose it. So unless I was able to copy/paste within 1 second, it would do nothing.
The reason this is happening seems to be Offline Files and it constantly taking...
In WinXP, every time you do a file search on your local computer, it runs out to a website(forgot url) where it looks to see if youre searching for things like porn or whatnot. Im not making this up, try it and check your outgoing firewall log.
I believe the reason XP is such a ram hog is...
I have a Dell Poweredge 750 server running win2k server. It has 2 identical ide drives, drive 0 has 3 partitions - one 32mb partition that holds the dell boot software, and the system partition, and another one. Drive 1 is empty and I want to have it mirror drive 0.
Im worried about...
Well the machine in question is running iis services for the internal lan, its a web server with a few virtual directories that have permissions that arent default.
Ah gotcha, and what about the IIS accounts with prefixes "IUSR_" and "IWAM_"? I guess I have to go through the IIS settings and set it to use different accounts?
I want to add a domain controller to an existing domain but I noticed dcpromo says it will delete all local user accounts. What will happen to applications that startup using the LocalSystem account?
I had the same issue the poster is having and it wasnt user error, it was the changing of permissions of the registry and dcom by SP2. The reason it doesnt show up for some people is because it doesnt affect the 'Administrator' account I think, but it does affect all other accounts even if they...
I was having the same problem. Its because SP2 changes permissions for dcom and parts of your registry and they apparently forgot about administrative accounts. First, make sure all services are started(just until youve installed whatever software you were having problems with) and add your...
