I figure it can't be that bad if Eizo, NEC and Quato - the three top, "high end" monitor manufacturers, all use the same panel with the same coating. Given their very critical and quality-conscious target market, if the coating was that bad they wouldn't be using this panel.
Can anyone comment on the anti-glare coating on this screen?
Is it the same as the Dell U2711? Or is it less intrusive than that? I don't think I could live with the Dell's "sparkly" colours and blurry text.
What about the NEC PA271W if not the Eizo? Or are all the LG panel monitors just...
I share that positive experience. When I got my SX2411W (or whatever the number is), the screen would lean to the left slightly - which was a bit irritating and distracting. I contacted my supplier, who in turn contacted AVNet, and they sent out a replacement stand immediately. I received it...
I don't know where you are, but here in the UK refurbs are often perfectly fine products that were simply returned by the 1st purchaser as unwanted (under the distance selling regs).
But you do have to ask your question *why* were they returned unwanted. One of the reasons could be because of...
You'd think the above would all be true wouldn't you? I find it hard to argue with any of that.
But then you watch a movie like "Unbreakable" and see the abysmal grey "black" levels throughout the movie and wonder what on earth the Director and production people were playing at.
I don't have any specific data to hand, although I could probably find some with a bit of googling. My comment was certainly based on personal experience though.
I know that black levels through film (i.e. celluloid) are not spectacular - unsurprising really bearing in mind the technology...
Just as a quick aside to all this banter, it is interesting to bear in mind that what lots of people are aiming for is a movie to be rendered "as the director intended". This normally means as per the cinema, since that's what the director usually had in mind.
It's pretty ironic therefore to...
Where are you based? I can't find s27a850t anywhere. Samsung tell me the D is discontinued, but everywhere in the UK is still selling it as if it's a current model. And no-one has heard of the T.
It's very frustrating. I have been trying to buy a new monitor for ages and no-one seems to...
I ran a Panasonic TH-42PW3 plasma as my only TV (and being a couch potato, I watched maybe 5 hours per day minimum) from 2000 to 2009. 10 years x 365 days x 5 hours and there is not one hint of screen burn. I was precious about it for the first year or so, and after that just didn't care and...
I was pretty set against it to be honest, thinking what's the big deal if I can make out the pixels on my existing screens - it doesn't bother me.
But looking at the retina display on the MBP did change my mind. The text is so crisp it's quite incredible and looks amazing. No idea what the...
Don't really know what you mean there. LCD is inorganic and solid state, and that suffers from burn in. Come to think of it, plasma is inorganic and solid state as well, and that certainly suffers from burn in.
Interesting video by the way - not seen that before.
And 8000 or 9000 for a 55" OLED TV at launch is really not that bad. I paid that for my first 42" plasma! I am sure they will be LCD prices or lower eventually - I think it's potentially easier to make an OLED screen than an LED screen...
I am sure screen burn is an issue. One of the reasons it's taken so long to get OLED to market is because of problems with unequal ageing of the different colours. This must happen quite quickly, or it wouldn't be a problem. And that must mean susceptibility to screen burn.
That said...
How long have you had it? I had to throw mine out after a couple of years because it had become so inaccurate. I only used it every few weeks, sometimes months, so I was a bit hacked off at how quickly it became unusable to be honest.
I don't disagree that wide gamut can mean over saturated colors, unless using a color-aware app.
But 1 billion colors does not need wide gamut, nor even imply it. It's about less or zero banding, not wider color space.
What a shambles Samsung UK are. I just came off the phone to them - a 30 minute phone call.
First, called their support number on the UK website (there isn't a sales number). The guy told me to call John Lewis, PC World etc. I explained, no, they are not out of stock - they aren't even...
I don't know how you can say that. It depends on what "they" think it does, doesn't it?
If you are into serious photo work, don't you probably shoot in Raw and convert to work AdobeRGB colorspace, so a wide color gamut on the monitor is surely a good thing? Or am I missing something?
Cheers...
Happy to do so, Traveller.
I can honestly say I have been *completely* delighted with it. It produces just stunning images, whether that be for surfing, editing photos with Photoshop (or whatever) or watching films - not that I do much of the latter.
Is it *perfect*? Well perhaps not...
Fair enough Travbomb (although you are making some wild assumptions about what I might or might not want to buy).
I am all for good solid information about any monitor. That's why I started coming here before I made a recent purchase. But we need good solid information and when certain people...
Just stating this does not make it true Tamlin. The reality is you ARE intolerant of criticism.
Time and time again you are praising the wonderful qualities of the 2690, glossing over its weaknesses and ridiculing other products that are better in some areas. Its quite painful reading your...
.
I don't know why you are so defensive of ANY criticism of the 2690, but time and time again if anyone says one bad word against it, there you are - defending it to the hilt.
Perhaps if you weren't so blatantly biased, it would make it easier for people like me to take a more neutral stance.
Chip
Eh? I wasn't arguing with anyone. I am interested in computer stuff and like to read the forums, or is that not allowed under your rules? Not that you make the rules.
Chip
There you go again. Going on about Eizo again. You just can't stop going on about it can you. Frankly I can't even be arsed to read the links you post. I couldn't give a toss about how the Eizo comes out in reviews. This is an LCD2690 thread for christs sake.
Chip
Why do you keep going on about the Eizo?
This is an NEC 2690 thread. The guy said you can't fail to be happy with a new 2690, and I said, "unless you are unlucky and get a crap one" (or words to that effect). A reasonable comment, given the problems widely reported.
Chip
(FWIW, I also own a...
