OSX has this great feature where you type the file name in the finder Window and it finds the file on your hard drive. Is there a plug-in that would work for this on Windows XP? It's very useful for when you are attaching files. Thanks.
Have you built machines for friends before? Are you willing to be the 800 help line every time something goes wrong? HTPC's can get complicated. I'd question whether or not this is worth it to you.
I'd look more into your objectives. How quiet do you want it to be? Does form factor matter to you? How much time do you have on your hands? Do you want HTPC software or basically just a computer hooked up to your TV. This can become very all encompassing. I'd dig more into what you really...
I have a system with one of the 40GB Intel mainstream SSD's. The thing now needs more storage space. It's running server 2003. I will order one of the 120GB drives probably from Intel.
How easy will it be to migrate this system to the new drive? Re-installing it is not an option. I'm...
No amount of technical skills will make a logic board cost less than $400. You can extend the Applecare before 1 year is up. The standard coverage gives you 1 year of hardware warranty and 90 days of application support. Applecare lets you call and ask things like, how the **** do i import...
It's both funny and stupid how people get upset about this and drops. Apple doesn't hide what is covered by Applecare. People drop their very expensive device, likely without even a rubber cover on it, and then walk into a store and expect the warranty to cover things that the warranty...
Well, what do you think happens when newspapers subscription rates drop so much that they can't employ reporters any longer? The giving away of news has cost that industry a huge amount. Unlike online music sharing where people getting free music drives up music sales, free online news really...
Many studies show that people talking on the phone drive as bad as people who are drunk. Is it really worth putting people's lives at risk? Most of the time when I see people driving like an idiot, they're yapping on a phone. This includes talking into an earpiece.
Rant all you want, but...
I haven't had an issue with Google and they've always done a great job at search. I see no reason to even try Bing. Look at Microsoft's history with the web browser. Netscape were innovative. Microsoft used their muscle to develop a competitive product and push them out of business...
It's nice to do what you like, but are there jobs in the field? How is the pay for web developers vs. regular developers? Are you willing to move? Is there a more compressed program that you can do in a shorter amount of time? Will you be able to work at the same time? How will you pay your...
Sorry to hear about your cat. I hope your insurance company are being stand up about it. The fire wasn't your fault. Be thankful that neither you nor your girlfriend were hurt. Keep your head up.
Applecare doesn't cover drops. Why is this bad service? I don't think that Apple hid this from you up front. It pays to not drop laptops. ;)
Apple is still, to my knowledge, the only manufacturer that uses magnetic power cables on all of their laptops to protect against this.
PSP - Original model. I haven't used it in ages, but charged it up and ran around and shot some people in GTA. It works great. Comes with a hard case. Screen doesn't have scratches that I can see. Comes with 6 games Lumines, FIFA Soccer, Madden 2006, GTA, MLB and Wipeout.

Genius bar. Plain and simple. Not to mention the level of service you get in their stores. Anyone there is willing to take the time to go through just about anything with you. You book the Genius time on their website. You can book personal (ie one on one shopping time) at any of their...
Hardly. Punishing yourself is spending hard earned money on something that does the same thing. XP works great. It works with everything and is super stable. Windows 7 might be an alternative now that it has fixed many of the Vista problems that Microsoft created.
Were it not for...
Cable prices mostly are a factor of competition. In places where there is more than one option prices tend to be lower. That's generally true no matter what the population density. That said, there's few smart things that people do that takes up lots of bandwidth. I don't think that people...
It might be the RTM, but how long is the product key valid? Is it perpetual or will they check if you are a member of the academic version of MSDN every year?
I'm looking for a way to backup an IDE hard drive in a laptop to an external USB drive then copy that image back to a larger drive. Ideally, this would automatically increase the size of the three partitions on the first drive to meet the site of the larger one, but I can always deal with that...
I have a Dell D630 laptop with an 80GB Seagate hard drive. I recently bought an X25-M. I used disc-copy from EASEUS to do a bit by bit copy of the OS from the original drive to the new. The new disc seems to work fine and starts to boot, but then blue screens. Sadly, the screen doesn't last...
I have bought a new SSD and want to move the OS from my current laptops 7200rpm drive to the SSD of the same size. It is cut up into two partitions. The challenge is that the drive is running safeboot for encryption and it seems like I won't be able to remove it. This will likely be out of my...
They're pretty much the only MLC SSD's that are functional and they have a fraction of the problems that other drives have. It's new technology and they're not made on a truly mass scale yet, so I'm not sure that they're overpriced. Too expensive for you to justify doesn't mean that they're...
I have a Dell D630 laptop that runs XP. It is cut up into two partitions. It's also running encryption software. I can remove this to copy over the data, but I'm wondering if I'll run into any issues with Windows XP and the X25. I'm looking at the 80GB version and it seems that it is not...
The framerates you posted are quite good. Why are you upgrading something again? You could also just play older games. The graphics might not be as good, but the gameplay is the same and you'll have money to spend on other things that don't involve staying home by yourself.
The best predictor of future performance is past performance. I'd be sure to ask plenty of questions beyond, "What does this script do". Don't forget the questions like, "Can you think of a situation in the past where a customer kept wanting to add functionality into a website beyond the...
