I currently have a 2500K, MSI P67-C43, 8 gigs of gskill DDR3, and an 8800GT on a Corsair 550VX PSU. It's also powering two 120mm fans, three SATA drives, and an audio card. I want to upgrade my GPU to an HD6850 or 6870 but I want to make sure that my current PSU will be able to handle it. Can...
I'm currently using an old 8800GT with my new 2500K, 8gigs DDR3, and MSI P67A-C43. I held off on buying a new video card when I updated (2 months ago) because I only really care about playing Skyrim and Diablo 3. I was just looking at video cards and found this HD6850 on Amazon. I have Prime and...
I'm looking for a new monitor to use with my current 21.5" LCD display. It most likely will not be my main monitor so I'm hoping to spend only about $130 on it. What are the best monitors in the 21-23" (or even 19" I guess) range for around this price?
Thanks!
I think I'm going to go with this Acer monitor from Amazon. It's the cheapest well-reviewed 22" screen I could find and I think it meets all my criteria.
The Newegg monitor is the best-reviewed monitor on Newegg and the 20$ discount made it seem like a really good deal. I found the other one in the Hot Deals section today, but now it's sold out... I need this monitor to last at least three years so I'm somewhat skeptical of buying used, but what...
I'm currently trying to decide between two monitors to pair with a 21.5" display.
This monitor on Newegg seems really nice and comes to 171.59 (plus an additional 20$ rebate) shipped.
This refurbished ViewSonic monitor comes to 139.09 shipped.
I use my monitors for watching movies...
Opened up the monitor and didn't seen any obvious signs of damage. I traced the signal from the VGA connector to the connector on the monitor board for all color wires. The two blue wires had connectivity so the cable is not the problem. I got a bit fed up with it and cut the main blue wire and...
As of right now it registers 127C without doing anything too strenuous (just watching large video files). I touched the heatsink and it's quite hot and it's uncomfortable to touch the heatsink for ~5s. I'm guessing (and hoping) that it's just a software glitch...
Already did this and the blue functions perfectly in the self-test mode. I've tried switching around the adapters and ports and none of the pins on the cable are bent. I tried moving around the hardwired end of the cable but that didn't help at all. I have a soldering iron and quite a bit of EE...
With Speedfan registering 85C I touched the southbridge heatsink and it was quite hot. I can keep my fingers on the heatsink for quite a while but after 5-10s it definitely starts to burn a bit. This particular temp reading does not show up in open hardware monitor.
I just got one of my monitors (a 6 year old 17" LCD) out of storage, where it has been for about 3 months, and now it cannot display any blue. The screen appears yellow-green and when I try to do color correction changing the blue amount has no effect. When I try to view something blue on the...
About a month ago I built a new 2500K system with a MSI P67A-C43. In Speedfan there's a reading called "Temp2" that reaches very, very high temperatures. Playing CS:Source it apparently hit 127C and now it's idling around 90C... Ambient is about 75F and airflow isn't bad at all. Does anyone know...
With the RAM voltage set to auto it hasn't frozen in about a week now. My main concern is that I will want to overclock my 2500k in the next couple years and I need to make sure my motherboard can take it. Is there any good way to check whether the motherboard is somewhat defective? Should I...
I thought all these issues were done with, but it's been locking up again. At this point, the RAM has been tested quite thoroughly. I used the system nearly two days straight without a lockup, but today it has frozen once or twice. It seems much more stable but I need this system to be stable...
I found a good utility on the MSI forums that worked perfectly (at least so far). The instructions for that were still barely legible... I have no idea why the official BIOS zip files I downloaded from MSI didn't reference this utility at all rather than telling me to use a Windows 98 boot...
Is there any good guide for updating the BIOS? The MSI instructions are written in such broken english that I can't even understand them... And they keep referencing a Windows 98 or ME floppy disk which doesn't really make sense to me...
I ran Memtest overnight with one stick in slot #1 and it made 16 successful passes. I booted up with the same configuration and it's more stable that it was with dual channel but it has still frozen twice in the past 2.5 hours. Does this suggest that the motherboard or CPU is to blame?
I reformatted and connected both the 4 pin ATX connectors. Everything seemed perfect for a few hours, but then today it started freezing again within about 10 minutes of startup. It successfully completed one pass of Memtest but I'm going to run it overnight tonight. If Memtest runs 8+ hours...
I noticed that my new MSI motherboard has two 4 pin ATX power connectors next to each other whereas my previous motherboard only had one. There was a small plastic cover over the second one. I only plugged in one of the connectors when I first built it. Could this be the source of problems?
I've got all my old stuff set up again and it works perfectly, so I don't think its the hard drive. I've used this drive for a couple years without problem. I guess I'll use a flash drive to install Windows 7 and test the RAM with memtest. If all that fails should I start disabling the 2500K...
So I just realized that the only DVD drive I have is IDE and my new mobo doesn't have IDE. I guess I'll rebuild my old system so that I can make sure I get everything I need off my Windows hard drive and order a new SATA DVD drive so I'll be able to format in the next few days...
Yesterday I switched from a E6750 with Gigabyte DS3 and 2 gigs Crucial Ballistix to a 2500K with MSI P67A-C43 and 8 gigs G-Skill Ripjaws. I did not initially reformat my windows partition with the new hardware. At first, things seemed to work acceptably. I was trying to get all my drivers taken...
I tried a few and they all showed similar readings but then I went into the BIOS and everything seemed much better, so I guess it's just reading the wrong sensors or something
Just tested a molex connector and it had +5.08/+11.99 so those voltages seem good. I don't know why the +12 is reading so low in Speedfan... I'm more concerned about the VCC1.5V reading of 1.05V and the Vdimm reading of 2.16V. I don't know what the first value is, but the Vdimm is for the RAM...
I just put together a new 2500K system with a MSI P67A-C43 today. Everything seems to be working, except the voltages I'm seeing in Speedfan seem to be really off. I noticed something similar with my previous build, which used the same power supply. Is this a sign of a major problem or are the...
I'm putting together a new 2500k system and the motherboard is the only thing I'm not sure about. I'm getting the 2500k+mobo combo at Microcenter in the next couple days. The motherboard must have at least 1 PCI slot but I don't care about SLI/firewire/onboard sound/most other features. I just...
Now my only question is regarding motherboards. I like both this MSI board and this Biostar board. Any suggestions or should I ask in the Motherboard forum? Thanks!
I usually use a dual monitor setup. The main one is 1920x1080 and the other is 1280x1024. All gaming will be on the larger monitor. I think I will go with the second option. As far as motherboards go, things seem to be more complicated than last time I upgraded. I need a motherboard with at...
The main reason I'm looking to upgrade is that my current system can't handle the multi-tasking I do. I often have photoshop, matlab, lots of browser windows, excel, and some word documents going at once and my current system isn't cutting it. I have an E6750 at stock on a DS3 with an 8800GT and...
I recently rebuilt my computer with a Gigabyte DS3L and installed Vista32bit on a 200gb IDE drive. I also have a 250gb SATA drive that I put some files on that I wanted to save. After rebuilding, I connected the SATA drive but could not access it. The drive shows up in the BIOS, device...
I recently rebuilt with a Gigabyte DS3L and installed vista 32bit on a reformatted 200gb ide drive. I put a lot of files on my second SATA 250gb drive so that I could copy back the files after the format. I reinstalled the SATA drive, and it shows up in the device manager, in the BIOS, and in...
Bought this RAM a while ago and never used it. When I first bought it, I opened it because I thought that I would be using it and Ballistix wrapper that goes around plastic case is a little torn. The RAM was never used and was only outside of the plastic case for a day or so.
If anyone...
