I've had the 1000HE on order with BeachCamera for about 2 weeks. They're due to ship around 3-14-09.
One of the primary reasons for choosing the 1000HE over other brands and other Asus models is the battery life, which is rated around 7 hours under normal use, 9 hours under power saving mode.
If you're doing product shots, most current P&S cameras are capable but where the quality will come from is lighting. You'll want to build a soft box to diffuse your light. Some will use work stand lights. To diffuse the lights, you can use tissue paper, white paper, cloth sheets, etc.
Ditto. I held on to my 20D awaiting for the new 5D MKII announcement that was originally slated for the Fall of 2007 but Canon pushed out the MKII release. I got sick of waiting so I sold the 20D and upgraded to the 5D as a back up body.
I've seen pictures with low end filters on and the lens glare is ridiculous, especially with low light/night photography and the light source is visible in the photos. Even with the good filters (ie Hoya, B+W), flare is an issue. It's just worst with the low end ones (ie Tiffen).
I'm using the wet solution/pec pad method, also. Once people overcome the fear of cleaning the sensor, it's very easy. It usually takes me 2-3 passes to clean the sensor since I tend to always get one or two spots that get moved to the edge.
I do mostly motorsport photography, so the majority of my shots are pans. The video feature adds a new dimension to photo journalism. It is nice to add a video in addition to the images taken at the race track. Most customers/teams/drivers will enjoy being able to see video footage in...
It's simple marketing. Some retailers will lure customers in with cheap prices on the base product but have high markup on accessory items. Car manufacturers do a great job on this type of technique, especially Honda.

When I go down to the water, I get the glitch as shown above in the picture. It only happened recently after I made some changes to my config but I'm not sure what caused it. My config is listed below:

I'm not familiar with the area but if you don't rule out online buying completely, Digi Key sells pretty much anything you would need if you know what you want.
If you have to buy it locally, you can check some manufacturer websites for local vendors. Diodes Inc, SEI, Panasonic, Vishay...
Shortly after putting in disc 1, I get this message:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'hl2.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-Rom, or a problem with this package.

I'm not too knowledgeable about computers since my brother usually did all the work for me but he's stationed over in Iraq at the moment. I ran SiSoftware Sandra, specifically the Memory Bandwidth Benchmark test, and it showed my ram speed as: 2 x 100 MHz (200 MHz) or 1600 max mem. bus...
If you can't afford it now, wait, save, and go for the GT. The average person won't upgrade their vid card often so you might as well get the best you can afford.
