I had the same issue on my old xperia z. Now ive upgraded to the z ultra every problem stated has gone.the new maps cant be optimized for every chipset yet.

The screen is that big and bright that when its on it lights up a room anyway! Problem solved!

Have you thought about a phablet? Note 2 and xperia z ultra are excellent. Note 3 should be out soon. Even the galaxy mega would work out much much cheaper than getting a combo.
