Ok, so i've been getting more and more into learning about hardware and how to make it perform at it's best. I've gotten some peices together and decided to make my first true machine with all the bells and whistles. I'm not completely done, but I was basically wondering if you guys could give me some tips/tricks to help make things go a bit better.

Here is what i'm working with:

Intel Confidential 3.8ghz/1m/800 (multipliers unlocked from 14-19)
ASUS P5AD2-E motherboard
4x512mb Samsung PC3200 DDR2
X800 XT pci-e
2x36gb Raptor Drives (raid 0)
2x120gb maxtor sata (raid 0)
OCZ Powerstream 600w psu
Audigy Platinum Edition

So basically tonight I took all the componants and threw them all together. I have a gigabyte hsf that I picked up at fry's with some AS5 heatsync compound on there.

About 2 hours ago I got everything installed and began installing windows/drives and such.

Now i've gotten to the point where I wanted to overclock so here's what I did.

I went into the bios, changed the multiplier to 14x and the bus to 268. And it gives me this result:

The machine fly's when I'm playing around and multitasking and hasn't crashed or given me any problems at all. I know I didn't increase the speed at all, but i've got that extra bus speed to keep things really going.

The other thing I was wondering was what about the memory, I think I might have created a choke there

That's the cpu-z readout of the memory and it's timings.

Also, I had purchased this psu "ocz powerstream 600w" and I was told it's very great for overclocking. I'm not too sure what i'm doing with it, but I'd imagine it has something to do with vmoding the rails? I'm pretty nervous when it comes to things like that and would rather not do anything to permenant.

Another thing was the cooling issue, i'm really really interested in getting a watercooling unit setup. So if anyone could help suggest anything on that it'd be greatly appreciated. I had talked to one gentleman about a alphacool system from germany which seemed very cool, but I think he might have backed out. I was also looking at dangerden and some of their parts as well.

So if some of you guys could help guide me through and teach me the ropes on how to properly oc it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks

nice hardware you got there but just to let you know the ocz powerstream doesnt "vmod" the rails or anything. the reason its good for overclocking is because its able to provide a lot of power consistently.

Ok, was doing some more playing around and somehow the memroy timings came way down once I turned the bus up. Not sure how that works? But things seem to be running pretty sweet at 4.2ghz/1200mhz

I ran 3dmark05 on the first setup at 3.750ghz and got about 5700. I'm gonna run it again with these memory timings and see what happens.

youre doing just fine, nice overclock so far, im drooling already.. engineering sample :D have you checked temperatures to see how high/low they are? you might want to do that before testing the system for stability as a lot of heat will produced during the "torture test" and you wouldnt want your system to overheat. To test the system for stability i recommend prime95 and it can be downloaded here http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm install the program and run its torture test for 24hours. If no errors are found, the system is stable and you can continue overclocking or what not.
