Cheathappens.com...opinions?
Anyone use this site or something like and/or the paid options? Worth it? Not worth it? Anything to it?

...do people seriously pay for the ability to effectively not play a game?

![]() I personally don't mind an occasional perk or edge in certain single player games. I usually like to beat the game and then come back for a "glory run" but sometimes, yes, I could use a little help here and there. I do balk at the idea of paying for cheats and trainers, though, although on that same note: If people are working to make these things, then they do deserve some kind of compensation for their work. (Intellectual property.) So let's skip the piracy arguments that I know can show up pretty quick, too. ![]()

I certainly do, too, in online multiplayer situations. If people want to mess around in single player situations, then that's their thing and doesn't affect anyone else.
All the predictable responses... I guess what I'm trying to get at here is: I have a few friends that are tempted to make a move and I've tried to talk them out of it because I'm concerned that maybe there's a potential scam situation here. I just don't know. I wanted to see if anyone here had firsthand experience or knew something up or down. I just don't see the point with gamefaqs and all these other places with plenty of "free" cheats and such out there. YMMV... EDIT: I guess what I'm trying to get at is this: Is it simply an unwise use of money (I think so) or does it go past that to being an outright illegitimate scam setup of sorts? I signed up there. But it was only because they had something no one else did. And it was a trainer for World in Conflict. It's awesome playing in single player mode, and using the air fuel bomb. haha

I only use gamefaqs etc. type sites when I'm stuck and I'll use a walkthrough and go "dur" and continue the game.
Only time I've "cheated" was after I beat HL2. I started a new game, loaded the citadel level when you get the super grav-gun. Re-load the first level, and type the console command (can't remember) for it and you can use it throughout the entire game lol.

I think paying for a trainer is kinda lame, just wait a very short period and those pay trainers end up on free sites.

Agreed. The vast majority of them do anyways.

What I want to know is..... did the people who made these trainers get paid? or does the website guy get paid?
If its teh people who made them, I can understand.... I mean, they did something and are getting paid for it. But if its just a site where people find stuff on the internet and probably free, then put them on the site, then the site is just plain stupid. More so than before I mean.

The last time I cheated in a game was the second last boss in Painkiller. I kept falling and dying and it was impossible not to, and it was annoying the fuck out of me.

It's for the guys that make the trainers and I'm sure there's a cut to keep the site and services running. It's "their" site. The trainers and stuff like that is authored by them. A lot of those trainers eventually make their way out to the "free" zone there and all over the Internet but the paid members get first dibs, direct tech support, and exclusives. That's how I understand it anyways. They even will "tech support" anything you download from them and if they have to they'll try and customize a fix for your particular problem if it's viable.

I've been known to do the occasional boost single-player, but I generally avoid it unless I'm really stuck because it just ruins the fun of the game. With multi-player, I'd never cheat .....
... unless I'm playing the Wii with some friends and I can screw up what they're doing by pushing them. ![]() EDIT: My wife calls me a cheater because I'll get stuck on a game and jump on an FAQ walk-through real quick to help out. Is that cheating?

Yes... yes it is. I do it too, though.
As for godly power ups.... I don't. I do hack my d2 characters now though..... back then it was to check out items, now its just cuz I'm bored and I mess up on skills or something. But I play single player and I've already beaten the game like 1000000000 times, so I don't really care that much. I also cheated the hell out of Doom2 >.> I could never sit through the Doom2 final boss. Though I have beaten him legitly once I think. But for the life of me, I'd never pay for a trainer, or a cheat neither.

I am fond of the occasional "unlimited ammo" cheats in certain single player games now and then. Not enough to actually pay for it though.
