asus 1000h or msi wind??

Alright so the deal is my girlfriend's b-day is coming up and I want to get her one of the 2 netbooks that she can take to school and work.

The only thing is that I am having a difficult time picking between the wind or the 1000H

Are there mods that are of importance? So far the Wind imo is the nicer looking of the two, osx can be installed and its 50 dollars cheaper..... The 1000H on the other hand looks sturdy and the reviews seem to be pointing out a bigger screen and better speaker compared to the Wind.

If there are owners here throw in your 2 cents, I'd really like to hear your opinions.

I have a 1000h, I chose it over the wind simply because the wind did not have a 6 cell battery available for shipping at the time, and the touchpad is supposedly not a synaptics. The 1000h does not have a synaptics either, however it supports multi touch scrolling.

At any rate the 1000h is now $450, so the wind no longer has any price advantage, especially not the 6 cell model.

Another vote for the 1000H.

I had counted it out before, but with the $100 price drop, it then became a matter of +$50 for half the harddrive, but more screen size, bluetooth, and wireless N vs. the Aspire One.

Umm, I'm starting to think that I want one for myself lol. How do you guys like the appearance of the 1000H? In the pictures the hinge for the Wind looks flush/clean yet the 1000H looks kinda bulky. Girls tend to be mindful about that kind of stuff.

I have a clone of the MSI Wind, with 160GB HDD and bluetooth module.

From the link you gave us of the 1000H I have a few things to say.
First, things I don't like about the 1000H, just from that page. The colour, I know I am weird, I just don't like black for colour of a netbook. Weight, it looks much heavier (all things taken into consideration) than a Wind, which is important for a netbook category laptop. Can the memory be easily upgraded or not?

In the MSI Wind clone I have the system comes with 1GB of RAM soldered in and another free slot so that you can upgrade it if you want to. It comes with a 160GB WD drive, but that is not the normal for most Wind IIRC. The Wind is lighter by 1lb. The Wind has a very good audio solution that supports Dolby, I don't know about the Asus.
I have the "Wind" for about a week now and I am satisfied with it. The build quality is very good. The keyboard for the letters and numbers is full sized, and the touchpad is very good (although I don't like touchpads anyway). It is very quiet.
I have an light review of the system posted here http://www.driverheaven.net/laptop-n...68321-got.html you might want to check it out. I am sure the performance for both systems will be very similar.

Just make sure you get the netbook (no matter what the brand) for the right reasons and that you don't expect more from it than it can deliver and you should be left satisfied.

all the upgradable parts can be accessed easily from the bay on the underside of the 1000H. IIRC, your pretty much have to pull apart the Wind to upgrade the RAM or even the HDD.

1000H comes with a 6-cell battery standard, so its obviously going to be a little heavier. Wind comes with a 3-cell, though i heard the 6-cells are out or will be coming out soon as a $50 add-on.

1000H also has the Dolby SoundRoom speakers.

as far as the hinge on the 1000H, i sorta like the look. its different from most notebooks so it stands out even more. black isn't the only color though as there is white. on the box there is also a few more colors that are hopefully going to come out but we'll have to see. and there is always the option of getting a custom lid skin if you're unhappy.

for what the 1000H offers at $450 now (i bought it for $540 ) you can't go wrong. bluetooth, 802.11n, 6-cell standard, etc.

EDIT: looks like there is a 160GB 1000H model coming out for $500. so if you need more storage, you can always jump on that when it comes out.

I wasn't talking about the speakers when I mentioned Dolby on the Wind. The Wind's speakers suck ass.

You should be alright either way, just buy the cheaper if you need a netbook.
