Odd problem with Catalyst 8.12 and more than 4GB of RAM...

I now have 8GB of RAM in my computer. I noticed that I had to roll back my video drivers to 8.6 catalyst I believe in order to get my video card to function properly. Has anyone noticed this? I am wondering if I need to upgrade to a new video card to remedy this situation. Any feedback would be appreciated. It may be a bug that someone knows about or knows how to fix.

Try installing the 8.12 hotfix on top of the regular 8.12 driver.

It doesn't seem like the hotfix actually helps my problem. I noticed the same thing when I went to 6GB of RAM and then to 8GB.

The 8.12's are the crappiest drivers from AMD ever. I had to roll back to the 8.11's on my computer under vista x64. Also, I have 8Gigs of RAM. A buddy of mine also had problems with the 8.12's under vista x64, but he only has 2gigs of RAM.

when installing the hotfox goto device manager and right click on on your video card select the ati folder that has the hot fix and select the driver folder only, dont reinstall the ccc.

What kind of problems were you having? Because I've had 8.12s since the BETA versions were released and I had to go back down to 4GBs because I thought some of my RAM sticks were bad... I never though the video drivers could have been the problem.

I was getting BSODs quite a bit with 6GBs installed.

S3th13, have you checked CATALYST Drivers over at Rage3D?
Maybe another had the same problem and found a fix?

The problem I was having with more that 4gb of ram and the catalyst 8.12 was that my video card wouldn't show up correctly in device manager. I went back to 8.6 drivers and it works fine.

Developed the same issue, tried different revisions, driver cleaner, etc.. Finally got sick of it formatted the whole thing. Mysteriously works now.

Hmm well I have a 4870x2 and will be putting it in a new i7 rig with 12GB of ram, hope it goes smoothly. I'll report back when I get it up and running, getting all the parts in Tuesday.

8.12's have been the best drivers for me from Ati since I got my 4870. They've been the most stable and bug free drivers I've used. So not everyone dislikes them :-) Its on a case by case problem..

Had the same problem with a borrowed HD3850 (Vista x64 and 8GB). It wouldn't properly detect the video card. I had to go back to 8.11
