Mark Cuban Fined For Twitter Remarks

Mark Cuban was fined $25,000 for remarks he made on Twitter about the way his team was treated during a recent game. The NBA didn’t seem to like those comments and slapped him with the fine.

Quote:
Mark Cuban, the outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is apparently just as frank on Twitter as he is courtside at basketball games. The NBA fined Cuban $25,000 on Sunday for a complaint that he tweeted about the refereeing of his team's 103-101 loss to Denver.

When you take up a job as a public persona, making millions per year, you lose all rights to free speech. He knew that going in.

Casting this as a free speech issue is absurd. The NBA expects its employees, of which Cuban is one, to adhere to company policy. One of those policies is that you cannot publicly criticize the referees. The NFL has the same rule, and I'm sure MLB does too. The goal is to avoid creating the appearance that the referees are not in control of the game. This is a rule that has to do with product quality, not free speech.

And this is not the first time Cuban's been hit with a fine for criticizing officials. He knows full well what the rules are.
