Certainly, it's a whole console system with the game, etc. Still, it's overpriced at $399, much less $585.

Right now, purely in terms of hardware and not speaking at all to the game libraries or other features, PS3 Slim is actually the best value on the market.

Microsoft needs to get their shit together, make their prices more in line with, oh, REALITY, and for god's sake put some fuckin' wifi in the console at no extra charge. Jesus Christ, even the $129 Nintendo DS has had wifi since fucking 2004.

And for those who actually paid the $99 for a Wifi adapter-you're idiots and you allowed yourself to get ripped off.

Actually I think $400 is about right.

$60 Game you probably actually want
$50 Extra controller (comes with 2)
$169 Base Console, controller, and accessories
So that leaves the 250GB HD at about $121?

The 250GB PS3 Slim will probably be price similarly with a game and I think 1 controller.

As far as the wifi adapter yeah it sucks, but thats the price you pay for consoles. Do you think $50 is an uninflated price for a controller? $55 for a DS3? $40 for a wii mote + $20 for a nunchuck + whatever for a motion plus? Its the world of consoles. They usually sell you the console for cheap (below cost sometimes) and make it up in game licensing and accessories. Its simply the business model that works.

Nope. the 250GB PS3 slim is actually coming in at $349.

Yes, I DO think $50+ for a game controller is overpriced. I suppose I could see it at launch, but 3-4 years in it's a bit ridiculous.

I understand how the console business works, traditionally (or in the case of PS3, how it so far *doesn't* work, considering the damn thing is $5,000,000,000 in the hole already). You might recall that PS2 controllers, at launch, were about $25. It really was MS who upped the ante on accessory pricing, and then Sony who, in a massively boneheaded move, jacked up the price of the console itself to ridiculous levels while *still* losing money on the thing.

Edit: I most definitely *don't* want MW2. I'm sick of FPS's

Anyway, point is, console accessories are *ridiculous*, and of the three vendors, Microsoft is the most ridiculous of them all.

Is the PS3 $350 with a game or an extra controller?

My point is they are priced similarly, they are after all in competition.

Nintendo, Sega, and Sony did the accessory thing long before M$ was even in the game. Memory cards were not cheap and still aren't. Competition to create the most powerful console upped the price ante not just M$. The PS3 was in development for a long time. Competition also brought down the price real fast. They need some way to make up that money.

Ok, wasn't sure. I know that Amazon has a distribution center in Dallas some where which I thought gives them presence in the state, and thus subjected to state tax. But it looks like Amazon may be pulling some legal trickery to try and avoid it, which I say more power to them.

I guess I'll haft to watch my invoice and make sure.

Back on topic:

Yea, ebay is a sellers market. Its amazing how much people overpay for stuff from there.

As far as price, $400 is probably about right for this. I mean your basicly getting the $300 elite system plus:

-130GB of extra HD (badly needed for GH/RB song downloads, or loading tons of games off the HD)
-An extra controller
-A game you might care about (or can probably dump for cash easily)

And its most likely a late model Jasper unit, that's quiet and doesn't have the RRoD problems to boot. Now you can of course find used cheeper, but for a brand new factory sealed unit, this isn't that bad of a deal.
