152 days since update, average of 200. I doubt there will be anything this year, but waiting a few months to go from dual to quad is a bit different than waiting for 200mhz.

There is a good chance that the next refresh of the MBP line is going to include the i5/i7 chips. I would wait it out until then. Also in regards to your decision between the 15/17, that's another hard one. I've also been at that cross road. I have a regular MB 13" and have a hard time choosing whether I want the 15 or 17 as my next Mac.

I have a current 17" MBP and am very happy. I use mine with a lot of VMs - Win7 (for Vsphere only really), OpenSolaris, Debian, and Fedora. RAM is really important as heavy memory swapping will make you want to end your life. Also, I'd recommend upgrading the hard drive if you plan on doing any sort of I/O between VMs. The stock hard drive is just unusable with seek times. Personally, I use a 160GB X-25M G2 SSD.
I mean, sure, I'd like my laptop to have a nehalem processor, bluray, tri-channel ram, and a monster video card, but those would all take a toll on battery life. I prefer my laptop to actually be useful when portable, so I'll take the 6+ hours I get now over 3-4 hours of better performance. I have a desktop and servers if I need more power. Also, if you use your computer for anything remotely serious, 17" is definitely the way to go if for no other reason than the matte screen option.

Core i5's and i7's are slated for the next MBP update, in the 15 and 17 models. Not sure when it's coming however.

Appreciate all the responses and thoughts all...
Argoth..sent you a pm As this isn't urgent, just money burning to spend, maybe Ill hold a bit and see what the first of the year offers.. or maybe Ill just buy and then sell when the quads come. Again, its more about "more is always better" enthusiast like thinking...coming in as a basic MAC n00b, don't even know what I need / want it for.. other than replacing my ageing 680i rig.. and since I generally don't play the more demanding new games, in fact, more of a browser gamer at this point, ( Mafia Wars ftw~ ) maybe some WoW once in a while, I began to think laptop instead of new rig, which led me to think MBP for ease of administration, "just works" factor, etc.

Sure buddy....
Let's see some pics in the other thread where you made the claim. You are dishonest and created some stir in other forums who linked to your post and bought imac's to use with there 5870's. It simply is not true and if it was provide a service to people and help them out. The people who bought them after reading your post. If you are lying you should be banned. Sorry to hijack the thread, please post in the other topic. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread....1462524&page=2 Last edited by hornkiku23; 11-10-2009 at 12:21 PM..
