O/Ced i7s - what is your memory running at?
My i7 will do 4.0 on stock voltage, I have tried 4.2 (have memory problems at that point) and I have no doubt it will go faster... My memory will run at most 1600 (dominator ram, pretty weak it won't do any over 1600). So my question is, if I push the processor to 4.4+ and run the memory at 2:6 or whatever to keep it below 1600 what would the negative effects be? Or should I return the memory and get 2000?

Depends on what your goals are, if you're looking to top benchmarks, grab some 2000mhz ram and light it up. In terms of real-world performance, you probably won't see much of a performance difference between speeds slower/faster than 1600.
What batch is your i7? I'm sure many would be interested to know.

I just want a fast system, at this point returning the 1600 ram and spending another 100 or so for 12 gb of 2000 will do it.
My cpu is SLBEJ, batch 3910A638

You won't notice a difference between 1600MHz and 2000MHz. I also doubt you will get much benefit by going from 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz. That being said, if you want the maximum clock and the DDR3 1600 is hindering your overclock because it won't work with a particular multiplier, then perhaps the 2000 RAM will help. If you want 4.4GHz and are able to get it by setting the multiplier to 22x with a BLCK of 200MHz, then with a RAM multiplier of 4 (2:8), your Dominators should be fine at their rated speeds (1600MHz). It all depends on what combination of CPU multiplier and BCLK will be stable.

Can't set multiplier - it's a 920

See sig, can run @ 1800 with a differnet overclock but needs 1.7+v. 1656Mhz is good enough @ 8,8,8,24,1T

I grabbed a set of the kingston 2000mhz HyperX and pushed them up to 2221 mhz before they started failing. I used to be skeptical about kingston's products but since buying these (and the lifetime warranty) i have no complaints. :P

I have mine running at 9-9-9-24, rest on auto, and it passes all tests.

I have my C0 920 at 4.2 GHz stable as a rock.
I have the Corsair Dominators, and just leave them at ~1600. I mean honestly, who needs more?

Well, i should have clarified... one set is bad - it will not run over 1500 at all. So either way at least one has to be RMAed or returned.

Return the defective set, sell the good set, buy 6gb 2000?

my i7 is a dog. wont go over 19x multi with anything higher then 195 bclk.
so i have it set to 19x195 for 3705mhz. memory is at 1563mhz and because its slightly underclocked i tightened the timings from 9-9-9-24 to 8-8-8-21 and its perfectly stable.

What do you mean you can't set the multiplier? The multiplier can be set up to 20x and up to 22x in turbo mode.

Ah, I was under the impression that turbo mode was locked at 21x. I have decided to return the bad set and sell the good set and go with either g skill, mushkin or kingston 2000. I was given a snippy remark by corsair and told that if I want to run 2x 6gb 1600 dominator sets that I would have to run it at 1333 to be stable, so they can suck my dick. At least the other brands can run XMP at stock ram/processor speeds - my dominators can't even do that (even the good set alone, garbage)

Got it running at 4.2 - I did up the voltage to 1.3, I am trading out this memory next week for some faster sticks... Getting 79/80 degrees C max at 100% load

i've had nothing but problems getting my RAM to go over 1600mhz @ 1.65v. i originally had regular dominator ram (1600), but it was unstable even at 1600 9-9-9-24 (it's rating). so, i grabbed some dominator gt (2000 8-8-8-24), and i have it running just under 1600 @ 6-6-6-18. it will do 5-5-5-15 as well, but i haven't done extensive stability tests at that speed yet. not quite finished with my overclock.
the x58 chipset has issues when you start to go over 1600mhz. getting to an uncore of 4ghz is pretty hard to accomplish. just grab from GT ram, and set your timings really low. no point in pushing really hard for such a little gain.
