Dangerden RAD reservoir just wasted my PSU.

So, I decided to finally purchase a reservoir, and retire my old one I had built 3 years ago from a container store q-tip holder.

A week after I installed the new res I noticed my water level was rather low - about halfway empty - however I figured since I had replaced all the lines it was just evap, trapped air, and the lines becoming saturated. I checked everything for water, didn't see anything or feel anything. I filled it back up and watched it, nothing happened. So, today I'm browsing the net, and I hear the dreaded sound of my pump getting air - the moment I hear that my system clicks off. I opened the case, and the res is literally SPRAYING water out of the screw holes at the bottom and the water level is dropping right before my eyes. My tru power 1000w is wasted - water dripped down the line and onto one of the looms, and I'm assuming into the distribution block in the psu and went to town. I pulled out the res and looked at it. It appears the res's seal failed and water literally is spraying out of every screw hole and every side. I filled it with water and just gravity causes the water to leak like a sieve. Can't wait to give DD a call tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that.

The horse is already out of the barn, but one thing I learned many moons ago is to double check the tightness of the screws/fasteners and tubing connections of all parts before assembling.

Yeah.. unless something cracked, can't really blame them.. it's definitely advisable to have everything properly clamped and use some thread sealer.

hmm, I could still blame em.

Good idea.

I am sure they will send you a new res (which I would double check ) hopefully if you did not see sparks or smoke out of the power supply, a couple of days in a sunny window or set up a hair dryer to blow through it for several hours might revive it. I would want to open the case and inspect/dry it out but that is a pretty high dollar PSU so voiding the warranty by opening it up might not be a good idea. /shrug.

Let us know if they do anything about the supply. That would be way far above and beyond as everything in the world with a warranty just covers the unit itself and excludes "incidental" damage.

It really blows, I hope this does not sour you on WCing, Stuff just happens sometimes.

Turns out it wasn't the seal. I let it sit out for a day to dry, and filled it back up with water, it's the glue that holes the bulkhead to the cylinder - it's leaking right out of the joint.

Called DD, set up an RMA but I'm waiting to speak to a guy name Jeremy Wednesday. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, that's rough. Hopefully it didn't blow the PSU or anything downstream. Good luck with the RMA.

I did the T-line thing when I first got into water cooling, I don't think I'll ever put up with that nightmare again.
