To give you all an idea, what folding really means to someone like me
This may be slightly off-topic, correct me if im wrong.
Asbergers is one of the largest reasons I fold, I suffer from it.... Its not an appealing issue to have. Folding could one day find what causes this issue and help doctors and scientists to find a way to prevent or in the least, help those who have it. My case is not as severe as some are, but mine isnt a small case either. I have days where things can be totally fine, and days where its hard for me to wake up in the morning or even want to try going on. My wife thankfully has been a strong support for me and has kept me moving more and more, and with the addition of my son back 17 months ago, even more so. My hopes are one day this will no longer be a problem for my son, or his children, or there children, that this will be dealt with in a better way than ever before. Now alot of you may not know alot about Asbergers or what it really is. In short, Asbergers is a form of Autism and can be very detrimental and sometimes fatal in the sense of a persons thoughts and what can run through them. People with Asbergers or Autism can be very anti-social or violent, to beyond a point of social contentment or spastic and can lead to severe cases of depression and lonly-ness. More can be found anywhere on the web or on WebMD. To give a better reality too. If you have netflix, or a real good source of a movie library, check out the movie called "Ben-X". The movie is belgian, it does have english subtitles and is spoken in dutch. The director of this movie and his cast hit the problems so well and so deeply it actually caused me to go back into depression for a little while because the problems really hit home to me. This movie is inspired by true events, which I can completely agree with. Unfortunatly alot of kids and grown ups who have this disorder are faced everyday with bullying and angst that it can lead to very serious matters. Again, the cast and director did an incredible job of showing how someone with these problems actually really feels. And may give insite to some of what really goes through someones head who has Asbergers or Autism. Thank you all for giving me a chance to push through and showing me how much fun and important folding is. My reasons for folding are stronger than ever, and even if I have only 300PPD, its contributing something toward a cause that I would never have thought of or believed in ever before. And as I get a chance to, more and more, I will find ways to contribute more of my time and effort into finding ways to help those who have problems and do the same as I do. FOLD on, for the mighty [H]orde! FrEaKy

That's pretty much the reason why I fold; to help solve diseases which can be cured through genetic therapy or even prevented entirely.
I also have a condition which is genetic in nature: intersexuality through mosaicism. The exact nature isn't know yet (long (5 years) story), but the reality I have to live with every day is a body which is unlike that of anyone I see around me, with a confusing mixture of male and female characteristics. I hope that better understanding of genetic processes will enable therapies to be developed, and that this condition will become less 'scary' to others. It would also be nice to gain a better understanding for myself how things turned out like this, and find my place in society. Fold on ![]()

Wow....It is inspiring to read through you post above FrEaKy, and is a very good reminder of the goals that we're hoping to push towards by folding like we do. It was also quite brave of you to step forward and mention the conditions that you have to deal with, and share more about these things with us. Not everyone I know would have done that.
Thank you for your thoughts, contributions, and assistance in folding for the cause. I'm honored to be folding on the same team as you.

im honored to fold with people who WANT to find a cure for problems this world has in the medical field.
Im sure there are other people on the forums here too that have issues they have to live with every day as well. I know Elledan for sure, but I know there have got to be others that are silent of there issues. Fold on peeps! ![]()

Thanks for sharing.
My reasons - Cancer histories in my (and my extended) family. -My mother, mother in law, grandmother in law, aunt in law - all had breast cancer (aunt in law passed away this year from it )-My father had prostate cancer Breast cancer in my wife's family is prevalent, and we're both worried she'll get it as well. ![]() That's why I fold...in respect to the things my loved ones have been through, and because it's something easy to do and it practically costs nothing (unless it becomes an obsession and you start building farms ).

I have a cousin with Asbergers. He is about 14 and he is prone to violence. I'm hoping he can make it at least through high school without getting into any legal trouble. It's scary to have him around the other kids because you are just afraid he is going to do something to really hurt someone.
