Intel LGA 775 Heat sink Orientation?

I finally received my generic backplate for my HP OEM heatsink that I bought This and I was planing on using AS5 (VS The stock TIM as it was not covered and damaged anyway)any way but does it matter which way the fan goes? I am using a CM690 case and I was planning on having the fan face the rear exhaust fan Is this the right way to do it in this case or does it not matter? The LGA 775 Bracket allows the fan to be in four different positions so I was wondering what was the best way to mount the fan for optimal cooling on my E5200
I know for what I spent I probably could of gotten a better one but I did not research before I bought and I am an idiot for this as the fan is loud when on the highest setting (I just powered it with a three pin to test I assume plugged in the proper 4 pin is should be quieter, I hope!) I was just looking for a large HS and this came from an old prescott system so I assume I could do overclocking at the expense of noise which does not really bother me that much in my main system (HTPC Yes but not at my desk)
Thanks again

Well, that depends what case you're using. In most situations the heatsink should be oriented in a way that the fan is blowing toward a rear exhaust.

Interesting case, lot of options, Like Z82z said, the "normal" way with the cooler you have is to have the fan toward the front of the computer blowing through the heatsink with the warm air that exits the heatsink then being sucked right out the back of the machine by the upper rear exhaust fan.

From what I can tell of the pictures and description of your case with the link above it may accommodate a 120mm fan(s) in the top directly above the CPU area. IF this is possible you have an option that may be better. It has worked well when I have used it on other cases with top fans that line up with the CPU heatsink. If you have no issues with spacing with video card , and the primary theory going on is "heat naturally wants to rise" is to mount the CPU cooler with the fan closest to the bottom of the case pointing up and blowing air through the heatsink so that the warm air is aimed at the top of the case where it is sucked out by a top mounted fan. You then flip the upper rear mounted fan around so it blows cool air into the case onto the side of the heatsink. It is almost like having two fans cooling the HS.

Your call. And either way will not be "wrong" try it one way for a while, record temps. Some rainy day change the configuration and see what happens.

=====================
interesting case, me personally, if 2 x 120mm fans would fit in the top I would go with the second option, but also add a side fan which from the picture also seems to be aimed mostly at the heatsink area. (if clearance was an issue I would even consider mounting it on the outside of the case, because I am an engineer and cool cpu is to me more interesting than a cool looking case), put a low speed fan on the side panel which would feed cool room air onto the top of the heatsink too. The only considerations are the rear and side fans should be low or med speed fans blowing cool air in but not be so strong that they completely disrupt the intended flow of air up and out. I am trying to say the top and the HS fan itself should be the primary/stronger fans. Keep in mind I am "not quite right" .

Ah, I must have skipped over the case model while trying to make sense of that wall of text.
