How to get data from laptop HDD
I have an HP laptop that is dead. I mean the motherboard and CPU are dead and my screen has been doing strange things for a while. So, I decided to take the HDD out and copy the data to another computer. Problem is the connectors on the laptop HDD are not like anything I have. How can I do this?
BTW, the drive is a Fujitsu SATA drive. Last edited by mrwill; 11-26-2009 at 11:50 AM..

if it's a sata drive, it surely mean that it's encased in a kind of caddy. Just remove the caddy and you will see the standard SATA connectors.

can you post up a picture of what the connector looks like so we can get a better idea of what you are dealing with

This link shows the connector type. The picture is not real clear, but does show what it looks like. My connector is soldered to the motherboard, so will not come out. Looks like I will just have to get one of these adapters unless there is another way.

That adapter that is on the drive in the pic, pulls off of the drive.
What you need to do, is go to the drives manufacture website and look the drive up to see what kind of interface is has. EG PATA or SATA. It will also show you what its connector looks like. If it looks like a standard SATA connector, then you have the same adapter on your drive that you can remove like the one in the pick.

Yep, it's got an adapter something like one of these on the end of it:

Thanks for the help. The adapter did slide off the HDD and I was able to get the data off of it.
