Fastest 60-100GB SSD for ~$300
Speed is the top priority here, as 60GB is plenty of room for me. I am Focusing on boot time, application loading, and level loading speeds.
This will be paired with Windows 7 and eventually an X58 mobo (right now it’s an nforce4, but only for a little while). Is there anything new on the horizon worth waiting for? I will need to purchase in the next 3-4 months though. The Contenders: 1. Intel X-25M G2 80GB = $214 Still top dog thanks to impressive random IO performance? 2. OCZ 60GB models: There are quite a few! Maybe the vertex line (is the turbo a huge speed improvement)? I hear it’s important to get the latest generation for TRIM and the 64MB cache that helps prevent “stuttering”. What do you recommend? And aren’t the 60s the same as the 120’s speed wise, they just have half the flash chips? 3. Corsair Extreme 64GB = $240 Looks like a nice piece! How does it compare with the X25M G2? Then there is G Skill, Kingston, Patriot, Super Talent, Transcend, etc… but I can’t keep up on all those models. Anything else I should be considering besides the 3 I listed above? Again, load times are what I am focusing on… no video editing or file serving here.

Keep in mind the Kingston M series are the Intel X-25M G2 drives with a Kingston label slapped on them. Same goes for the Kingston E series and the Intel Extreme SSDs.
3-4 months is a long time though. Is that when you plan on building the system? Might want to wait until then to see what changes develop.

The 150GB raptor i am using in my current rig is way too slow.
I will be building a new system in the next 6 months, but would like the SSD speed boost sooner... If there is something great (a new Intel controller to replace their current 2 yr old one), i'll wait. But it's not worth waiting for a few small, incremental improvements.

the pcp guys say that some of the smaller capacity drives are slower because they only use half the channels on their flash controllers. Something for me to consider since I am looking at the 60-80GB range?

ugh, too many choices!
Anyone check out the OCZ Agility EX 60GB SLC drive? http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...sd-review.html Seems to be the first consumer drive to touch the IO performance of the X25-M. Plus it has the raw read write speed that comes with SLC chips. If it's a huge bump over the X-25-M 80G, i would consider paying the premium.
