The 27 inch model? I've heard it's an LG Display but hasn't made its way into any other monitors yet. There were rumors about a new 27 inch Dell using it but if true it will probably be a ways off.

Yeah i need that. I really want 27" -30" @2560 x1600 with a really good response time. higher refresh rate would be cool to0. I've seen 2 monitors that are suppose to refresh @ 120 hz but they are only 22". I don't plan on eyefinity but if i did I would want at least 24"
monitors.

Its the LG H-IPS panel used in NEC2490wuxi as well.

For same or better image quality there is only 2 options.

1.Nec 2490-BK-SV 1300$

2.HP-2480ZX 2000$

You can't find other monitor with quality like this two. Especially the first one even its cheaper.

The 27" iMac has a 27" 2560x1440 IPS LED-backlit display with a glossy finish. There are no other displays anything like it on the market. It is certainly not the same panel as used in the NEC 2490 or the HP 2480ZX, because those are 24" displays.

Looks like the
LM270WQ1 only exists in Apple's display so far.

I just picked up a 24" ACD w/ atlona at-dp200 for my pc and i love it. there are some downsides but image quality, response time, color do not seem to be one of them. (im not a heavy gamer anymore but have not had any issues playing fps style games or other)

you can use the imac as a monitor but u'll need a videocard with a displayport out like the ATI 4890, the atlona doesn't work with the imac 27" so far. (not all displayport out vcards work ootb with the imac, if u go this route make sure u double check that it will work) And also a display to mini-displayport adapter

You can bump up to the 30inch ACD which supports dvi , little pricey though
But otherwise you'll be shelling out for an NEC, Lacie or maybe an Eizo to match the acd imo

Read carefully through the thread in the Apple Products forum about using the 27" iMac as a PC monitor:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1462524

Some ATi cards, like the 4890 and 5970, are confirmed to work, but some do not, particularly the 5700 and 5800 series. Neither ATi nor Apple seem entirely sure why they don't work yet, so it's unclear whether it will be fixable at all.
