How much would I gain upgrading to a 5770
How much of an improvement would there be going from a 4850 to a 5770?

Not a whole lot. Check the reviews, most of them have at least the 4890 to compare it with.

Barely anything. HD 5770 is not even faster then HD 4870, you'd be better of picking up an HD 4890 new or something equivalent if not faster used.
