Is there a way to get the full aeroglass effect or suite of effects and GUI features for windows xp?
I would like to avoid upgrading to vista for as long as possible.

I would say no

why?

Vista uses Vector graphics instead of Raster graphics.

I just want to add my comments on the VTP before someone suggests it: it's a very pale imitation of the Vista interface. I ran it on WinXP for a couple of hours but it's just too pathetic.

I remember reading a while back that after vista is released the whole aero /avalon engine will be available as an update to xp. Either in SP3 or seperately, and i have seen demo's of the engine running graphics on xp.

Was quite a long time ago so could be another project they've cancelled tho.

I'm sorry but what is so incredible about vista's "vector" graphics engine that it cannot be fully replicated for xp?
Unless of course MS releases something for xp we can't get a 100 percent copy of aeroglass for xp by other companies?

xp deals with the themes in terms of pixels, aka raster graphics. Vista deals with it in terms of mathematical equations such as splines, aka vector graphics. The two are very, very different.

Deviantart.com has a bunch of free visual styles you can use if you swap your uxtheme.dll file. Many of them are Vista clones.

:D I'm just glad I don't remember how many quarters I dropped into those things... Tempest is still my favorite game.

ok, what about windowblinds and desktopx? Do those things support skins that mimic the aeroglass?

Windowblinds 5 can do it no problem

WindowBlinds 5 skins support per-pixel alpha blending on nearly all controls including the title bars, borders, menus, and other major elements. That means no "jaggies", semi-transparent elements, and just plain cooler looking user interfaces. And best of all, it does this using DirectX acceleration so for most users, it actually increases performance over standard Windows.
