I just got it today from Frys after reading some really good reviews. Its was $$$ but well worth the paper! Let me know what you think. :D

*Update* Sorry but links to all my pics are broken since I dumped Comcast. Anyway, I'm still LOVIN this monitor. It has BY FAR surpassed all of my expectations!! :D :D

I think your links are messed buddy, it keeps asking me to login when I click em. :)

Sorry bout that guys. I got the links working now :D. This montior is really great guys. The 1600:1 Advanced DV mode makes a HUGE difference with playing games like Doom 3/Fear/Quake.

Btw, No Dead Pixels or backlight bleeding and the viewing angles on this thing are spectacular.

very nice indeed!!

you noticing any ghosting when playing Doom?

oh an welcome to the [H]!!!

I haven't noticed any ghosting at all. However, I did have to enable vsync on HL2. So far I've played Doom 3, Quake, UT2003, HL2, Counter Strike Source and BF2 with no ghosting at all. More pics coming soon!

sweet view port.. I am getting ready to replace my old 23" which has served me well these past 4 years.. seeing all these new mons has me itching!! :D

I've owned and tested many different 20" LCD monitors and I can honestly say that NEC is by far the best one in the market right now. It's expensive as hell, but I just can't think of anything even coming remotely close. Congratulations and enjoy it. :D

How is it in terms of the TV functionality? I am looking forward to a full photo review from you especially in that regard, as most reviews dont cover how it works as a tv, or how the component loos etc

Yeah, I saw thsi monitor at Frys and it's the best 20" I have ever seen....The pic quality beat the all Dell's for sure...

What about banding issues? That being an S-IPS panel it should not be too much of a problem though.

It's pretty hard to take good pictures of this monitor, especially when you have a crappy camera. i took 4 pictures and this is the only one that wasn't blurry. pic still doesnt do it justice.

*edit. sorry for all of them!*

Finally took a good pic of backlight bleeding and was able to adjust it with a freeware program i had on my comp.

You can see a little bit of bleeding in the bottom left area, but it's really not bad at all.

Wow, NICE.

Just to pitch my 2 cents worth:
I have a Gateway 2185FPW, 10 ms, 1000:1 contrast ratio. thing's fucking AWESOME, however, coming from a 19" Sony XBrite, I do miss the overly vibrant colors that the XBrite gave. But then I just turn up Digital Vibrance Control and once again I'm at ease ;)

LG makes a very similar monitor to your NEC, but at only a fraction of the cost, at about $400. We sell it here @ BestBuy. Downside: no glossy coating, which is a BIG downside, since NEC's glossy coating ROCKS. Upside: 4 ms vs 6 ms, but then again that's always a lie. Same contrast ratios, same resolutions, i think NEC comes out higher though when it comes to brightness. LG also makes a 2(!!!!!!)ms 19", 1600:1, 1280x1024 4:3 monitor, the L1970HR, costs nearly $400. God what i'd kill for a 2 ms, 1600:1, 1680x1050 21" Widescreen monitor *drool....

The thing about viewing photos of monitors is that over the internet it is only going to look as good as your own monitor can display, and probably a bit worse because you have to take into account what your camera can capture as well.

Still, that looks very nice, but I wouldn't be so quick to forget the Dell options, the picture quality is quite good. I have an old 2001fp (4:3 1600x1200 400:1 contrast 16ms) and is looks incredible, no ghosting, and very vivid color. Maybe you have better eyes than me, but, other than the really cheap off-brands, I haven't seen a recent model LCD that dissapoints.

Very Nice Monitor!

Is the ghosting as good as stated in the BeHardware article?

Is there any twinkling effect in movies?

http://www.behardware.com/articles/610-1/nec-20wgx-an-ips-equivalent-to-a-2-ms-tn.html

Is that ghosting on the 50 420 machine gun display?
http://home.comcast.net/~sifulee/pics/DSC00679.JPG

Yes, I been playing Doom 3, HL2, Quake and Fear with no ghosting. I haven't played any movies on it yet but will when I get home from work and post more pics.

What made you decide on this over, say, a Dell 2405?

Well first of all, I read this great review here http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/nec_20wgx2.htm .
After reading that review I went up to Frys where they had it setup with COD2.

Setup was a FX60, 2 Gigs ram and 7800GTX Sli setup.
The picture quality was phenominal. It was a sight to see. I played for about 30 minutes and was like SOLD!

I've brought and return several monitors and by far this monitor blows the others away. The Dells are great to but have very poor viewing angles and the black levels aren't that great with games Doom3/Fear/Quake.

Hi, I haven't got a chance to play too much with the TV aspect of the monitor. I did hook up my comcast cable to it and it looked great (SD). I have a xbox 360 and will hook it up this weekend and let u know what i think. Will also check out dvds and hd content. I will explore this much more this weekend and give a full report.

FYI: I box came with all the kind of goodies. A remote control, coax cable, dvi cable, vga cable and I think a s-video cable. Cable management is really good and the display is wall mountable :D!

After owning three Dell 2005FPW displays and a ViewSonic VX2025, I finally bought the NEC 20WMGX2. I might take it back because of a dead pixel I never notice but it's the best by far out of these. Although there is a bit of a price premium (I think because of the AS-IPS panel type, and built in TV tuner), it's worth it.

Advanced DV "Standard" mode is great for games but I've noticed not so good for internet usage. The monitor will adjust brightness levels based on what is being displayed so you will notice these changes while switching between sites or pages. You can turn it off and there are other presets to use for different situations to alleviate issues like this. I don't like the movie advanced DV preset as I notice some banding while watching DVDs but standard works great. All of the adjustments make it flexible for different display types.

I wasn't happy with any of the other displays' backlight uniformity. I have to say I'm very pleased with the NEC. I noticed slightly in the bottom left corner but only in a pitch dark room with a black screen saver. I never noticed it in movies or games; even in the dark.

After owning a 2005FPW with a S-IPS panel I wasn't happy with the colors on the Viewsonic. I hated the screen door of the 2005s, though. The NEC will be the monitor I'm keeping even if I return it because of a dead pixel. Sort of sucks to pay $800 for a 20" LCD, though.

The monitor seems top notch, but I also read that Nec company(customer support) is worthless. Have anyone had any dealings with Nec customer support.

Very nice LCD! Worth the extra money IMP.
Yesterday I took a look at this monitor as well as the others in the GX2 (17,19 20WS) series at Fry's. They really do look better than the others. It's not just the glossy screen that makes them look so nice, as they had the previous GX models there also. I definitely could see a difference in the new GX2 vs old GX series. I'm thinking two 17" GX2's would look pretty good on my desk. :D

I really think it was worth every penny! I'm not rich and $800 bucks is a lot of money for me but this monitor is in a class of its own. You really have to see this monitor in person to really appreciate it. I when up to Frys just to look at it, but after playing COD2 on it for about 30 mins, I was sold and broke! If you think about it, its really not that expensive for all that you get. (Monitor/Tv/Hdtv 1080i/720p/480p, 1600:1 contrast, remote, etc).

I play alot of dark games and have always had a problem with blacks being washed out and bleeding. On this monitor my black are VERY BLACK and whites are very white. I've never seen Doom 3 look so good and sharp. Plus this thing remembers your setting for each input.

One other note, the pics I've posted so far doesn't do this monitor any justice. If you have a local Frys in your area, go check out this monitor and see for yourself.

Well, the only dealing I've had with NEC was for the rebate that came with the monitor. Mail in rebates usually take 4-6 weeks, from my experience, to be processed and sent back. Five days after sending out my MIR, i got an e-mail...

Dear NEC Consumer,

Thank you for participating in the NEC LCD MultiSync Up To $70.00 Rebate!

Your rebate(s) has been mailed, and is on its way to you. You should receive
your rebate(s) within the next 7-10 days. If you have any questions please call
us at 1-866-327-8350.

Thank you for choosing NEC.

I got my rebate 8 days later.

I don't know about you, but I've never gotten a mail in rebate back in less than two weeks before this. Needless to say, I was impressed.

Proud owner of this monitor as well. Bought mine about a month ago with a $50 MIR. Best LCD monitor, ya get what ya pay for.....

Hey guys I want to post more pics but can someone tell me how to inbody them into the message? They only show up as links. I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance!

I've had mine for about one month also. Great monitor. I looked at a lot of different monitors and when I went to Fry's and saw this one I bought it. They have a very good thread and review over at widescreen forum about this monitor. That is what prompted me to go to Fry's to have a look. Haven't regretted spending the extra bucks on it. I've already received my $50.00 rebate also.

I think this'll be the monitor i get to replace my aging 17" CRT, how is it on the 360? that's the main reason i'm switching, it's terribly dark on my CRT and by the sounds of things this monitor has tremendous vibrancy...will that help with the vga cable "wash out" effect slightly?

Cheerio.

How is watching XviD, DivX movies using media player without expanding it to full screen? i.e. with Zoom =100%, but not full screen. It will look like a PIP on the display. Is it grainy, or is it smooth?

Nice set of pictures. I will be picking one of these up tomorrow, since they are finally in stock.
