Great video card. I'm personally not a fan of the dual slot coolers so I didn't bother with the x1900xt/xtx. I've only run 3dmark05 so far..results here:

Whats the difference between the GT and the XT/XTX?

Is nVidia going to come out with a 7900XT now? :D

Meh. Not enough performance diff over my X1800XL...ill wait for a new line.

It's still a pretty healthy increase, an average increase of 18% in the benchmarks below:

Code:
                    X1900GT X1800XL
Doom 3
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 59.4 49.3

Half-Life 2
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 75.62 69.18

BattleFiled 2 v1.2
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 59.51 46.54

Serious Sam 2
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 42.7 39.5

Splinter Cell CT
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 39.6 35.3

FEAR
1600 x 1200 4AA 8AF 33.8 25.2

I'm going to install the new cat drivers and run more tests. So far this card is actually quieter than an x1800GTO and runs games much, much smoother. It looks just like an x1800xl pcb and that hkepc site has the correct image of the board/cooler. Also, I'd imagine a bios flash would unlock all pipes as I'm sure this is just an r580(?) core with a quad disabled.

The card msrp is either $350-400. The price I paid for it however makes it directly comparable to a 7900GT but MUCH more attractive.

And I don't understand why there is no official information about this card available. Nothing on ATi. newegg isnt' selling it. No real reviews. Odd. But it does make me feel a little warm inside.

Where did u buy it from? Frys? I remember the 7800GS was like that at Frys. Frys had it like 2 weeks in advance and sold it early.

I noticed on HKPC that they managed to clock it very close to XT speeds in the OC test as well.

And even with *only* 36 pixel shaders, it should still do very well in SM3.0 games like Oblivion, though the 256mb will hurt it some.

Speaking of 256mb, with just that amount of RAM and presumably a binned R580 chip, it ought to retail for around $299, when you consider how cheap non-ATI X1900's can be had these days. At the very least I expect you'll see Diamond, Powercolor, etc, selling sub-$300 OEM versions.

To be really competitive with the 7900GT, they need an inexpensive GT Crossfire Edition. It's not so much that every potential 7900GT/x1900GT buyer is interested in SLI, it's that many like to think they can take that route at some point.

EDIT...That's a fairly fresh printing on that box...notice the "HDR and anti-aliasing" line, a clear reference to this month's Chuck patch for Oblivion.

I bet this card doesnt need a Crossfire edition and just 2 of the regular cards, like the GTO's.

F.E.A.R, Q3, Q4, Guildwars all run immaculate for me. I'm using a 17" Sony CRT so I don't game or run resolutions higher than 1024x768. So for me this is almost overkill. I'm going to install TombRaider, Oblivion, and a few demos of other games to test out next.

Anything higher than 1024x768 on a 17" CRT doesn't look good to me. That, and I get 100hz refresh rate @ 10x7.

Yeah this is worthless at 1024x768, buuut tell me how TRL feels with the next gen config, I know it eats up my card.

I was hoping it would be cheaper than that. It's no cheaper than the deal I got on my X1900XT from Dell.

nice scores, too bad i just bought a X1900XT for $350 shipped :p

if i remember correctly, he said he bought it at bestbuy for $299.

36 instead of the 48 found on the x1900XT/XTX/CE, and 256mb instead of 512mb.

Shop around and for $50-$90 more (Powercolor, Diamond, Sapphire etc) I think the XT is the better deal right now, not so much for the extra pipes or core clock speed, but for the extra (faster?) RAM. That extra RAM helps a LOT at higher resolutions, but not so much at 10x7 or 12x10. If $50-$90 is out of your budget, or you KNOW you're not going to run 1600+ resolutions, then I'd say go for the GT.

If the GT drops closer to $250 then it'd be a solid "value" card, or of the XT's were still holding the $450-$550 price point. Oddly enough, I think the GT is why XT prices are falling lately, they're trying to reduce XT inventory before the 1900GT's hit the channel in large numbers and potentially kill/cannibalize XT sales.

I saw four of these @ Best Buy this evening... I didn't check the shelf label for accuracy, but I believe they were $399. Can someone confirm this?

(I was taken aback b/c I didn't even know these cards existed.. :p )
